“I know.

He was a piece of trash.

I’m not blaming you—I’m just stating the facts.” Eddie nodded.Full novel: Coming Clean Starts with Resident Evil — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

“Thank you.” Karena nodded back.

“Your résumé is very strong—excellent, really.” Eddie smiled.

“But given your past… I believe that if I provide you with the best treatment, you’ll give me absolute loyalty.

Your daughter can receive the best education.

You’ll have more than enough money to support her.

And you know how it is with girls—if they’ve got money, they won’t be tricked so easily by other men.”

“She’ll be sensible,” Karena said coolly.

“I trust my daughter.

So… you’re planning to hire me?”

“Yes.

I think you’re a perfect fit to serve as Delta Team’s leader.

I hope you won’t disappoint me.

Stuart—take Karena to handle the paperwork.” Eddie gave the order.

It definitely wasn’t because she still had that mature, lingering charm—no, he valued her seasoned experience.

Talent like this from special forces was hard to find.

After that came a whole string of interviews, every candidate carefully selected.

Based on his memory, Eddie planned to rebuild a “Wolf-and-Lamb” squad—an elite unit so ferocious that even HUNK, the Grim Reaper himself, would have to praise it.

Besides, having three stunning women in the team wasn’t exactly a downside.

Easy on the eyes, too.

Next came: the demolitions expert Beltway (Hector Hivers), the island-blooded serology researcher Four Eyes (Christine Yamata), the special forces field medic Bertha (Michaela Schneider), the Cold War spy/sniper Spectre (Vladimir Bodrovski), and finally the assassin and close-quarters monster from the islands—Vector.

These five, like Karena, all had deeply stained pasts.

Each of them was profoundly misunderstood by ordinary people.

Beltway had repeatedly used explosives for “pranks” throughout his military career.

Even after being hauled before a court-martial, he showed no remorse.

You couldn’t deny it, though—his gift for bombs was genuinely exceptional.

He could modify all kinds of explosives at will, making them terrifyingly powerful.

Christine Yamata, twenty-eight, with a face that still seemed stuck at eighteen, was fanatically obsessed with serology.

She used everything for experiments—prisoners, animals, even herself—and felt absolutely no guilt.

Michaela Schneider, thirty-four, unmarried, was a field medic with formidable surgical skills.

She often performed operations without anesthetic, frequently causing severe consequences—and that was exactly why she’d been fired.

Vladimir Bodrovski was a Cold War-era spy recruited by Umbrella.

Given his talents, he was also meant to monitor Delta Team’s every move—Eddie included.

And the final killer… was someone Eddie had poached from under Sergei’s command—an operator whose combat ability was not inferior to HUNK himself.

Putting Delta Team together and arranging everything took three full days.

It was time-consuming, but the cost was worth it.

Ding-dong.

The villa’s doorbell rang—Jill had arrived.

She wore practical combat gear, and at her waist hung the semi-automatic pistol Eddie had given her.

She looked sharp, heroic, and effortlessly cool.

“Hey, Jill.

I’m really happy you came.” Eddie smiled and shook her hand.

One of Resident Evil’s heroines—beautiful enough to make you blink twice, and on top of that, strong-willed and steady.

The kind who could beat up creeps, outplay mistresses, and still keep her head straight—wasn’t that the perfect woman?

“I hope I’m not showing up too suddenly.” Jill glanced into the courtyard.

“Huh… who are those people?” Out there, Delta Team was training.

By instinct alone, she could tell they had the strength of elite special forces.

“That’s my private protection unit.

Didn’t you want to tour my villa?

Come on—let’s take a look.” Eddie invited.

They had a cup of coffee and chatted for a while.

Jill kept feeling like the man in front of her was wrapped in fog—hard to see clearly.

She couldn’t help suspecting he might be connected to the disappearances in the mountains.

“Eddie,” Jill said, her expression turning serious, “do you know about the missing-person cases in the Arklay Mountains?

Most of them are couples on picnics, and tourists.”

“I know,” Eddie said.

“But didn’t your chief, Irons, already say it’s all the work of some unknown cult?

He’s already cracking down on those cult members.” Eddie pretended ignorance.

He had no interest in getting dragged into this.

Who knew how many horrific B.O.W.s were waiting inside the training facility and the mansion?

Until he got serum enhancement, he had no intention of going anywhere near those places.

He’d die and wouldn’t even know if anyone would bother sending a wreath.

“But something’s wrong with that explanation,” Jill pressed.

“Don’t you think so?

And you live so close.

Aren’t you worried at all?” She tried to stir his sense of crisis.

“Are you worried about me?” Eddie smiled.

“Yes.

I’m worried about you.” Jill nodded.

“Don’t worry, dear,” Eddie said warmly.

“I’m fine, and this place will be a fortress.

But you—maybe you should train a bit more.

Steel is forged by the strong, after all.

I’ll also have something I need your help with… but it’s not convenient to say right now.” Eddie smiled, tapping the tabletop in a steady rhythm.

Jill’s eyes sharpened.

Morse code?

It seemed like he was telling her he was being watched—meaning he couldn’t say too much.

“Alright.

I’ll take your advice.”

“If anything happens, call me anytime,” Eddie said.

“I can help you.

I will help you.” His gaze drifted into the distance.

“Actually, last night I had a dream.

You know what kind of dream?”

“What dream?” Jill asked, curious.

“I dreamed we got married—and had a few kids.” Eddie burst out laughing.

“You really know how to dream!” Jill deadpanned.

She wasn’t some lovesick fool—she just had a bit of goodwill toward him.

After all, the customized handgun alone proved he had real value.

Meanwhile, deep beneath Raccoon City, in Umbrella’s underground research facility, the brilliant serologist William Birkin was working on his life’s masterpiece: the G-serum, a project with potential far beyond the T-serum!

“Look at this,” William sneered.

“Spencer actually sent me an assistant—Marcus’s distant relative, no less.

Does he think that means he can get the G-serum out of my hands?”

Serum expertise?

William didn’t even bother to hide his disdain.

No one was smarter than him—not even that Alexia.

“I don’t think that’s the point,” Wesker said coldly behind dark sunglasses.

“This Eddie Cai seems to be investigating Marcus’s death.

We can make good use of him.

Even the smartest person needs a decent assistant… and a piece of cannon fodder.”

“Use him?” William frowned.

“I don’t even know what’s going on inside your head.” Then he shrugged.

“Fine.

You’re better at that sort of thing.

I’ll reluctantly accept him.”

“You’d better leave yourself an exit route,” Wesker said, lifting his sunglasses slightly.

“The Umbrella ship is far too old.”

“I’ve already contacted the military!” William roared.

“Spencer’s gone too far—constantly demanding I hand over serum data.

That’s my research!

What gives him the right to take it?

That old bastard absolutely has other schemes!”

The fact that he could say his escape plan out loud showed just how close the two of them were.

“Same here,” Wesker said calmly.

“Except I’m going to other companies.” He nodded.

His doubts about Spencer were enormous—especially after the Arklay Mountains incident and the leakage of those experiments, which only strengthened his resolve to leave.

In Umbrella, there was always this one guy named Sergei who kept targeting him.

It’s not really mandatory—I’ll eventually upload all the chapters here—but it helps a lot in supporting me and allows me to dedicate more time to it.
