Jiang Xinmei was completely stunned.
How could Shen Shuyue be so rich?
Her parents had sent her eight whole truckloads of supplies in one go? And at first, they hadn’t even intended to donate them to the army—they had sent all of it specifically for Shen Shuyue?
Later, it was only because Shen Shuyue couldn’t possibly finish all those supplies herself that she donated them to the army?
What kind of family had the kind of wealth and resources to do something so outrageously extravagant?
Qiu Chengyue had already rushed back to the military base to bring Shen Shuyue some food.
That left only Shen Shuyue and Jiang Xinmei in the hospital room.
As Jiang Xinmei applied medicine to Shen Shuyue’s injuries, she was still thinking about Shen Shuyue’s donation to the army.
She was so distracted that she accidentally hurt Shen Shuyue.
“Ow…” Shen Shuyue abruptly pulled her leg back.
Was this woman doing it on purpose?
Jiang Xinmei glanced at Shen Shuyue and said, “Chengyue likes gentle and composed women.”
“A woman like you probably isn’t his type.”
“If his grandfather hadn’t forced him to marry you, he definitely wouldn’t have married you.”
Shen Shuyue: “?”
So, with Qiu Chengyue gone, this woman was finally showing her true colors?
Shen Shuyue didn’t get angry. Instead, she smiled.
“Exactly. He doesn’t like me, and I don’t like him either.”
“But what does that matter?”
“As long as he’ll take care of me when I’m injured, that’s enough.”
“He’ll even go and get the food I like for me.”
“You like him so much, and you even buy him breakfast. So what? He still didn’t marry you, did he? He doesn’t prepare food for you, does he? He doesn’t take care of you either, does he?”
Jiang Xinmei: “You…”
Her face twisted with anger.
“He doesn’t like you. You’ll never have his heart for the rest of your life. Don’t expect him to care about you.”
Shen Shuyue smiled brightly.
Get Qiu Chengyue’s heart?
Forget it.
As long as Qiu Chengyue didn’t try to win her heart, she’d already be grateful.
“I only want his body. What do I need his heart for?”
“You like him so much. I wonder whether you’ve managed to win his heart.”
“If you really have, then go ahead and dig that heart out and take it.”
“I only need his body.”
Jiang Xinmei: “You…”
“You’re shameless! You have no dignity!”
Shen Shuyue: “How am I shameless? Look at this beautiful face of mine. If I didn’t have a face, would I be able to give it to you?”
Jiang Xinmei was furious all over again.
If she hadn’t been working here, and if she didn’t desperately need this job, she really wouldn’t have wanted to serve Shen Shuyue.
When Qiu Chengyue returned, Jiang Xinmei ran out with red-rimmed eyes.
Shen Shuyue leaned against the headboard and smiled.
“She cried.”
“Aren’t you going to check on her?”
Qiu Chengyue shot Shen Shuyue a glance.
“Eat. And stop talking.”
He had brought food back.
There were sea prawns, which Shen Shuyue liked, as well as the lean-pork congee she had wanted.
The food from the cafeteria actually tasted pretty good. Shen Shuyue took a bite and nodded repeatedly.
“It’s delicious.”
“I don’t know why you people complain about the food here so much.”
Qiu Chengyue: “…”
Today’s food was delicious. The food she’d eaten before hadn’t been nearly this good.
Shen Shuyue was sitting on the bed, so eating wasn’t very convenient.
She held the rice container in her hands.
The container of dishes, meanwhile, was sitting on the bedside table.
Whenever she wanted to eat some of the dishes, she had to lean sideways.
Peeling prawns would dirty her hands, while using chopsticks wasn’t convenient either.
Shen Shuyue looked at Qiu Chengyue sitting nearby and gave him a meaningful look.
“Come over and peel the prawns for me.”
Qiu Chengyue’s expression darkened.
“Peel them yourself.”
Shen Shuyue snorted and didn’t press him.
She put the rice container on the bedside table, then slowly moved her injured leg toward the edge of the bed. Supporting herself, she carefully shifted until she was sitting at the edge of the bed, facing the bedside table.
Seeing how difficult it was for her to move, Qiu Chengyue instinctively reached out to help her.
Shen Shuyue rolled her eyes at him and refused his help.
Qiu Chengyue: “…”
This woman really held a grudge.
Once Shen Shuyue was settled, she looked at her hands and slowly began peeling the prawns herself.
As she worked, she said, “You can leave. I can eat by myself, and I can get my own water.”
“If I need help…” Shen Shuyue paused when she saw a young man walking past the room.
She immediately called out to him.
“Hey, handsome, could you help me with something?”
The young man passing by looked over at Shen Shuyue, and his eyes immediately lit up.
“Is there something you need?”
He was quite polite. Seeing Qiu Chengyue inside the room, he remained standing at the doorway instead of coming in.
Shen Shuyue smiled.
“My legs aren’t working very well right now. Could you go to the water station and fill this kettle for me? I’m a little thirsty.”
The young man smiled.
“Sure. I’ll go get you some water right now.”
There was a hospital-issued thermos on the bedside table, with one provided for each patient.
The young man picked it up and cheerfully went to get Shen Shuyue some water.
Beside her, Qiu Chengyue’s face became even darker.
Shen Shuyue was doing this on purpose just to make him jealous.
Shen Shuyue said, “You can leave now. I don’t need you anymore.”
Qiu Chengyue finally spoke through his dark expression.
“Shen Shuyue, your legs are injured. Can’t you behave yourself for once?”
“Just eat properly and focus on recovering, okay? Stop making trouble, all right?”
Shen Shuyue sneered.
“I’m making trouble? Did I bother you?”
Qiu Chengyue: “…”
Shen Shuyue continued, “I told you to leave. You’re the one who chose not to go.”
“Bringing me to the hospital and bringing me food once counts as me making trouble?”
“If you’re unhappy about it, then just go back.”
“You’re making it sound as if I’d die here without you.”
The veins on Qiu Chengyue’s forehead bulged.
“You…”
Shen Shuyue glared at him.
“What?”
The next second, Qiu Chengyue grabbed the container of dishes, picked up a prawn, and began peeling it rapidly.
Shen Shuyue raised an eyebrow.
“…”
What was wrong with this man?
He was angry, yet he was peeling prawns for her?
“Did you wash your hands?”
Shen Shuyue looked at Qiu Chengyue peeling the prawns and asked another question.
Qiu Chengyue took a deep breath and glared at her.
“I did. They’re perfectly clean. Eating them won’t kill you.”
After peeling one prawn, he tossed the meat into Shen Shuyue’s bowl.
“Eat.”
His attitude was absolutely terrible.
Then he picked up another prawn and began peeling it quickly, his expression still sour.
Just then, the young man who had gone to get water for Shen Shuyue returned.
He glanced at Qiu Chengyue before smiling at Shen Shuyue.
“Miss, would you like me to pour you some water?”
Shen Shuyue shook her head.
“Not yet. I didn’t bring a cup.”
“Thank you. Sorry to trouble you.”
The young man smiled.
“It’s nothing. No trouble at all.”
“I hope you get well soon.”
Shen Shuyue smiled.
“Thank you.”
After the young man left, Qiu Chengyue cast a sideways glance at him.
His expression became even more unpleasant, and the speed at which he peeled the prawns increased.
When he turned back, Qiu Chengyue suddenly saw Shen Shuyue trying to get out of bed.
With a dark expression, he asked, “What are you doing?”
Shen Shuyue held up her hands.
“My hands are dirty, and it’s hard to use chopsticks. I’m going to wash my hands.”
Qiu Chengyue: “…”
Wash her hands?
She couldn’t even walk properly, so what was she going to wash her hands for?
And how exactly was she planning to get there to wash them?
