As the men from the family compound gradually returned home, Shen Shuyue had just about finished preparing dinner.
Qiu Chengyue had bought plenty of groceries, but she only cooked two dishes.
One was tomato and scrambled eggs, and the other was stir-fried shredded pork with green peppers.
She didn’t eat much, and she couldn’t even finish one plate of food by herself.
Just as Qiu Chengyue walked through the door, Shen Shuyue happened to come out of the kitchen.
She had already washed her hands and was wiping them with a clean white handkerchief.
When she saw Qiu Chengyue come home, she didn’t say anything to him. Instead, she went into the bedroom, took out the hand cream she hadn’t finished using, and rubbed it onto her hands.
By the time she finished applying the hand cream and came back out, Qiu Chengyue had already brought the dishes to the table and served the rice.
Shen Shuyue stared at the two bowls of rice on the table.
“?”
Had Qiu Chengyue suddenly been possessed by someone else?
How had he suddenly become so considerate? He had even served her rice.
She looked at the bowl of rice, then at Qiu Chengyue, and smiled.
“What happened? Suddenly decided to treat me better?”
“You bought me breakfast and now you’re serving me rice. Good thing you’re a soldier. Otherwise, I’d really suspect you were trying to poison me.”
Qiu Chengyue’s hands paused for a moment, and the corner of his mouth seemed to twitch.
Poison her?
Only she could come up with something like that.
“The breakfast was mine. I bought it and forgot to eat it.”
Qiu Chengyue answered with a completely serious expression.
Shen Shuyue gave an “Oh” and said, “Then this bowl of rice must be yours too. Eat it yourself.”
She then took another bowl and served herself more than half a bowl of rice.
Qiu Chengyue: “…”
Shen Shuyue calmly sat across from him and slowly ate her meal.
She didn’t even spare the bowl of rice Qiu Chengyue had served her a glance.
After eating her fill, there was still quite a bit of food left on the table. Shen Shuyue didn’t pay it any attention either. As she walked toward the sofa, she casually said, “There’s dirty laundry in the bathroom. Remember to wash it.”
“Wash your clothes separately from mine. Don’t just throw them all into the washing machine together.”
Qiu Chengyue: “…”
Was she saying his clothes were dirty?
Shen Shuyue was already sitting comfortably on the sofa.
Ever since she came here and became a wealthy young lady, her life had been ridiculously comfortable.
She didn’t have to do any housework at home, and she didn’t have to do any here either.
Sitting at the dining table, Qiu Chengyue glanced at Shen Shuyue’s arrogant, pampered appearance. A faint smile seemed to appear in the depths of his eyes.
Shen Shuyue didn’t notice this rare expression at all.
After washing the dishes, Qiu Chengyue went to the bathroom to do the laundry.
Shen Shuyue’s clothes were sitting in a basin.
A small washing machine had been placed in the corner of the bathroom.
Qiu Chengyue looked at the clothes in the basin and slightly moved his lips.
He had washed Shen Shuyue’s clothes yesterday too, and he hadn’t thought much of it then.
But today, when he saw her clothes, his body started heating up again.
The more he looked at the two bras in the basin, the hotter he felt.
“Don’t wash the underwear in the washing machine. It’ll ruin them.”
Shen Shuyue’s voice came from outside.
Qiu Chengyue’s body stiffened for a moment, and he turned his head toward the doorway.
Shen Shuyue was still lounging on the sofa, looking completely matter-of-fact.
Qiu Chengyue: “…”
How did this woman have absolutely no sense of embarrassment?
Her skin was even thicker than a man’s.
He was only washing one load of clothes, so Qiu Chengyue couldn’t be bothered to use the washing machine anymore.
He poured some laundry detergent into the basin and added water.
When he washed Shen Shuyue’s underwear, it felt as though his soul had been pulled right out of his body.
Images of the night he had spent with Shen Shuyue kept appearing in his mind.
He could still clearly recall how it had felt that night.
“You’re going to ruin it if you keep scrubbing like that.”
Shen Shuyue had appeared at the bathroom doorway at some point.
She stood there with her arms crossed, her expression carrying a teasing smile.
Qiu Chengyue: “Shen Shuyue, you talk too much.”
He had already managed to regain his composure.
Shen Shuyue smiled.
“Do you like it?”
The way she asked sounded as casual as if she were asking whether he liked the food they had eaten that day.
So calm and unconcerned.
Qiu Chengyue: “…”
“Stop talking.”
He tossed the clothes in his hands into the bucket before continuing to wash the rest.
Shen Shuyue said, “I still have a few more sets. Want me to leave one for you to… admire slowly?”
Qiu Chengyue’s face darkened again.
Sure enough, she was still the same woman.
Just like a little vixen.
Not a single thing she said was ever proper.
“Shen Shuyue, can you please stop talking?”
“Get out.”
He was annoyed now.
Shen Shuyue shrugged, a sweet smile on her face.
This man really couldn’t take a joke.
……
Shen Shuyue found it troublesome to constantly go out to buy groceries, so on a nice day, she went into the city and bought a refrigerator.
When the refrigerator was delivered to the family compound, everyone gathered around excitedly.
One after another, they asked how much the refrigerator had cost.
Some people didn’t even know what a refrigerator was for, so they kept asking what it did.
When they learned that it was simply used to preserve vegetables, meat, and other food, the women immediately sneered.
Spending so much money just to buy such a useless thing—what was the point?
How much could vegetables and meat possibly cost? It wasn’t worth spending so much money just to store them.
Soon, a group of people began gossiping among themselves.
Hearing their comments, Shen Shuyue said, “For people like you, buying a refrigerator certainly wouldn’t be worth it.”
“A refrigerator costs more than a thousand yuan. You can’t afford one anyway.”
“If you could afford a refrigerator, you wouldn’t be saying things like this.”
Her words were blunt, but there was truth behind them.
People without money were the ones who thought a refrigerator was expensive.
People with money wouldn’t think a refrigerator was expensive at all.
Someone like Shen Shuyue, who had a seven-figure savings balance, certainly didn’t think it was expensive.
Several women’s faces twisted with anger.
Did Shen Shuyue really think having a little money made her so impressive?
“Don’t get angry either. I’m just telling the truth.”
Shen Shuyue wasn’t afraid of causing trouble at all. Instead, she kindly added another sentence.
The women’s expressions became even uglier.
After buying the refrigerator, Shen Shuyue gained yet another reputation for being extravagant and wasteful.
But she didn’t care.
She hadn’t even taken the matter seriously.
The refrigerator was huge and occupied a large corner of the living room.
Before Qiu Chengyue had even returned to the family compound, Political Commissar Zhou came over and told him that Shen Shuyue had been reported by someone.
“Oh, you really need to keep your wife in check.”
“She spends money like this every day, and it makes my job incredibly difficult.”
Political Commissar Zhou was much older than Qiu Chengyue.
As Qiu Chengyue walked toward the family compound, he asked, “What did she do this time?”
Political Commissar Zhou explained the trouble caused by Shen Shuyue buying the refrigerator.
Upon hearing this, Qiu Chengyue stopped walking.
“Political Commissar Zhou, you’re the one who’s in the wrong here.”
“Shen Shuyue bought a refrigerator with her own money. She didn’t steal or rob anyone. How exactly has that caused such a huge impact?”
“How is it extravagant or wasteful? If the family doesn’t have a refrigerator, can’t she spend her own money to buy one?”
“Besides, what she said wasn’t wrong either. The people who think a refrigerator is expensive are simply the people who can’t afford one.”
“If they had enough money to buy several thousand refrigerators, would they still think refrigerators were expensive?”
Political Commissar Zhou: “…”
Well…
Technically, that was exactly what it meant.
But hearing it put that way would obviously make other people unhappy.
