“Someone’s robbing me!”
“Someone’s robbing me!”
Shouichi stared in utter bewilderment at Conan, who was currently robbing him, and shouted at the top of his lungs.
Shouichi never imagined he would see the day where he got robbed by Edogawa Conan.
He was still a bit confused about what had just happened.
Hearing Shouichi’s shouts, the hotel security guards rushed over.
They looked at Shouichi, then looked at the little kid who was currently “fleeing.”
*Did that little kid really just rob you, a grown adult?*
While they were doubting the situation, Shouichi put on a fierce expression and barked, “Hurry up and catch him!
That brat stole my briefcase!”
“Ah!”
The scrawny Conan was quickly pinned to the ground by the security guards.
Shouichi snatched his briefcase back.
Glaring fiercely at Conan, he demanded, “I’ve heard that some robbers use kids to lower people’s guard before committing a crime, but I never expected to run into it myself.
Speak!
Where are your accomplices?”
Conan struggled for a moment.
Realizing it was futile, he shouted, “Hurry up and throw that briefcase away!
There’s a bomb inside!
It’s going to explode any second now, you have to throw it somewhere empty!”
“A bomb?”
“That’s right!
The guy you were making a deal with definitely never planned on giving you money.
It’s packed with explosives—he’s trying to kill you!” Conan yelled at the top of his lungs.
Shouichi’s expression shifted rapidly.
*A bomb?
That guy wants to kill me?*
*How dare he?*
Not willing to joke around with his own life, Shouichi popped the briefcase open, and all the cash inside spilled out.
The pale yellow Japanese yen banknotes dazzled the eyes of the security guards.
They had to gulp down several mouthfuls of saliva to suppress the greedy thoughts rising in their hearts.
Meanwhile, Conan looked completely dumbfounded.
*Where’s the bomb?*
*That man clearly said he put a bomb in the case.*
*He couldn’t have just been joking, right?*
“Where’s the bomb?”
Yeah, where was the bomb?
He had clearly heard that masked man say he was going to blow up the person he was trading with.
So where were the explosives?
Shouichi rapped Conan on the head.
“You sly little brat.
Even now, you’re still trying to trick me into thinking there’s a bomb in the case so I’ll throw it somewhere empty for you to pick up, huh?”
With all the commotion outside, Kotani Jirou also ran out of room 302.
“Manager Shouichi, are you alright?”
Shouichi shook his head.
“I’m fine.
This little mugger has already been subdued.”
Conan looked at Kotani Jirou, who had just come out of room 302, and felt a wave of absurdity wash over him.
*Did I get the wrong person?*
*This guy didn’t come out of 301.
He’s from 302.*
*The people from the Organization should still be inside 301 right now.*
“Ahem.” Conan coughed and muttered quietly, “I got the wrong person.
This must be a misunderstanding.”
“A misunderstanding?”
Shouichi packed the wads of cash back into the briefcase one by one, staring at Conan with a stiff expression.
“The security cameras caught everything.
You didn’t say a word, just snatched my briefcase and ran.
Let me tell you, your age is not an excuse to act with impunity.” Shouichi dialed the police.
*Conan, you little brat.
Daring to steal my money?
Go reflect on your actions at the police station.*
…
“Why is there so much commotion outside?” Yukiko glanced toward the door in confusion.
Kudou Yuusaku walked over to the door and said, “Shinichi is probably here.
With his reckless personality, it’s perfectly normal for him to cause a scene before finding us.”
He peered out through the peephole.
After their son shrank from taking the mysterious Organization’s drug, the two of them had made a decision: they would disguise themselves as members of that mysterious Organization to give their son a warning.
A warning to keep a low profile and stop being so flashy.
If that mysterious Organization discovered he wasn’t dead, it would implicate everyone around him.
“Why is Shinichi being taken away by the police?” Yuusaku asked in astonishment.
The main event hadn’t even started yet, and this was already Shinichi’s second trip to the police station.
“What’s going on?”
Yukiko pushed Yuusaku aside and looked through the peephole herself to observe the situation outside.
Yuusaku slapped his forehead and sighed, “I’ll call Inspector Megure first and ask what’s going on.”
It felt like they didn’t even need to step in to teach Shinichi a lesson anymore.
Two trips to the police station within twenty-four hours was plenty of education.
After Inspector Megure gathered the information, Yuusaku let out a bitter smile.
Good grief.
Shinichi had actually been mistaken for a mugger.
Furthermore, the person he robbed had a significant status, so the police couldn’t just let him go easily.
Even if it really was a misunderstanding, they still needed the victim to be satisfied.
“Good thing I know Shouichi’s father, otherwise this would be really troublesome,” Yuusaku said.
…
“Hello?
This is Shouichi.”
“Kudou Yuusaku?
Oh, that mystery novelist, right?
Conan is your relative?
You guys were playing a game?
A misunderstanding?
I understand.”
Shouichi hung up the phone and waved his hand at the police officers, signaling them to let the boy go.
Shouichi remembered that his biological father was a huge fan of Kudou Yuusaku’s novels.
Once, when he invited Yuusaku over to their house as a guest, he had actually placed the author under house arrest.
He wasn’t allowed to go home until he wrote a hundred thousand words.
That was also how Shouichi had met Yuusaku.
He had even stolen Yuusaku’s pen back then.
The newly released Conan looked completely bewildered.
*My dad is back?*
*How did he know I got arrested by the police?*
He was full of questions, but there was no one to answer them.
“Let’s go.
I’ll take you to see Kudou Yuusaku.
He said he’d explain things to me in person when he has the time,” Shouichi told Conan.
“Okay,” Conan nodded.
With all the commotion earlier, the Organization members in room 301 had probably left long ago.
Right now, it was best to go find his dad and discuss things with him first.
With his dad’s help, he would be better equipped to deal with the Organization.
Seeing Shouichi’s car, Conan paused in his tracks.
“This is my own car.
I didn’t pick it up off the street,” Shouichi explained.
…
“Is it resolved?” Yukiko asked.
“It’s resolved.
Shouichi is quite reasonable.
We just need to find some time in a couple of days to explain things to him,” Yuusaku replied.
Yukiko rubbed her temples and asked, “So, are we still continuing with this?”
Their son had already been to the police station twice, and now the news of Yuusaku returning to Japan was exposed.
Should they really keep going?
“We continue!” Yuusaku declared.
They were already at the final step.
There was no reason to stop now; they couldn’t just let it fizzle out.
“We just need to change the script a bit.
Actually, exposing the news of my return to Japan isn’t a bad thing.
It’s the perfect opportunity for me to insert myself into the game,” Yuusaku said.
…
“Wait a minute.”
“What’s wrong?” Shouichi stopped the car and looked at the portly Inspector Megure jogging over.
Inspector Megure panted heavily and said to Conan, “Kudou said he’s currently at Professor Agasa’s house.
He told Conan to just go find him there.”
“Got it.” Shouichi waved at Inspector Megure.
