2X0705 Went to the Zero One showcase review (warning: I’m a dumbass so I might not remember everything)

Saw it from the first row, but because of the stage props, there were a lot of times the guys were blocked from view :( Still, it was nice because they were close. Right at the start they did a live stage of a B-side from this album, and the live was so clean it was like they swallowed a CD, totally satisfied. Ad-libs and sound too, soooo good.

The title track, seriously :( Just hair/makeup/styling, all of it set a new legend. This is insane :( :( :( :( Never in my life did I think I’d see styling like this on our boys :( :( Overall it was white + sky-blue, and it felt similar to the Ocean Blue version group concept photos, but this one had more small-point accessory details.

I’m excited to see how it’ll look on music shows. There are a few key choreo points where, if the camera doesn’t catch them, your whole bloodline will be cursed. The Inwoo + Youngin main-dancer pair choreo that comes out near the beginning, Sebin’s rap part, Cheon Sayun’s ending pose, Pyo Jaeho coming out center during the chorus :( :( You could tell they sharpened their knives and practiced. The song is refreshing so I thought the dance would be light, but the dance

is insanely brutal and there are tons of little details you have to pay attention to (which is why I love it, I’m a group-choreo lover)
The whole time it felt like I chugged a huge bowl of refreshing vibes :( Honestly I was worried, but there was absolutely nothing to worry about. If it’s this kind of concept, I can forgive Dubdi even if he overdoes it, at least once.

Oh right, and the VCRs in the middle were legit too, quality totally satisfied, so good. But fuck, no matter how I look at it, that last VCR part is way too ominous. I knew Kwon Daedo isn’t the type to give up the lore nicely, but it feels like it’s gonna continue.

No matter how busy I was living in the practice room, it still wasn’t as busy as promotion season after a comeback.
Because of that, Zero One, which already had zero such thing as a “useful emotional exchange space” between members, had even less progress in conversation. Even though we were the same members, all you ever saw was how we looked onstage or in front of fans, so how could the distance that already existed possibly shrink.
The Status Window kept being annoying as hell, so I did keep poking at it consistently, but honestly, I have no idea whether it helped or what difference it even made.
And the reactions weren’t even good.
“If you’re doing this because you want to get cursed out, say so. I’ll curse you out.”
Cheon Sayun, still a rude little shit.

Im Sebin, not saying a word, but sighing and showing every kind of irritation with his face.
“Hey, what is it. You’re making me dizzy.”
Kyeon Inwoo, the least awful reaction, at least.

Even Pyo Jaeho, the one I should be stopping.
Isn’t this what you call a total disaster?
I remembered checking off a goal box I’d written in my phone notes.
There was that thing during the album jacket shoot, but it wasn’t a huge deal, nobody got hurt. There wasn’t any major noise either. At this point, I guess you could say we achieved the goal of “make it to the comeback safely.”
After the comeback, the schedule was a pretty brutal forced march. Starting Thursday, then without a single day off, going to a different network every day—either doing pre-recordings or filming live.
There were also schedules we did for promotion in between, and livestreams we turned on personally to communicate with fans.
And because there’s prep time, there were countless times we had to wake up at the ass-crack of dawn to get ready.
And since idols prepare from early hours, fans who come to see the idols they like also wait from early hours and suffer right along with them. In the end it’s all part of working to get your name out there, so it’s not like I can complain.
If you don’t have music shows, there surprisingly aren’t that many direct ways to promote yourself to the public or many chances to meet fans face-to-face.
In-house content, online fan service, all that hasn’t even been around that long, and if you’re not someone who’s interested in idols, you don’t go looking for it anyway.
And in this situation, there was one person whose mood was so foul that even the staff around him couldn’t approach properly because they were reading the room.
Like I even need to say it…
Im Sebin.
Ever since the comeback showcase, up until now, Im Sebin had stayed in a constant low-pressure state.
He already seemed touchy as hell by default, but he still had the concept of image management. Lately, his bad mood started leaking more and more, to the point even the people around him were whispering, “Is he sick or something?”
He’s the kind of person who insists on maintaining a “proper” distance from people, so he’s hard enough to approach already. With him being like that, the difficulty of even talking to him went up even more.
Thanks to that, I got to have the forced experience of feeling like I’d become some harmful bacteria. Which also gave me time to reflect on my own cleanliness.
Haha, fuck. If an epidemic breaks out in the world, Im Sebin is the type who would lead the charge in being a model citizen for social distancing.
I don’t know how someone that sensitive and weird about cleanliness can still get hair and makeup like normal, and act like nothing’s wrong when it’s official work. Actually, maybe it has nothing to do with that and he’s just distancing from the person he hates. Which is me. Is that it?
Anyway, after that same “mysterious conversation” that only Go Youngin found baffling, Im Sebin and I reached a point where, aside from official work talk, we didn’t exchange a single private word.
It’s not like Im Sebin talked to the other members either. He just barely opened his mouth at all.
Even so, I worked up the courage… no, correction. I couldn’t stand the Status Window’s bullshit and tried to talk to Im Sebin anyway, but a challenge is prettiest when it stays a challenge.
“Sebin hyung, can we talk for a second.”
“……”
Before I could even finish, he saw my face and turned around without looking back, walking straight back the way he came.
“About the blocking during rehearsal earlier…”

He didn’t even listen, stared at the monitor in silence, then went back to where he was supposed to be.
“You don’t look like you’re feeling great. You’re not sick, right?”
“……”
Even when I finally got him to face me, he treated me like I was invisible.
So I couldn’t get a single real answer out of him.
Im Sebin’s social distancing skill isn’t his only max-level skill. Avoiding and ignoring are maxed too. So why didn’t you invest points into basic communication for healthy social interaction.
Fuck. An answer? I didn’t even see him physically speak a single syllable. What is he, a voiceless mermaid or something. One word could pay off a thousand-nyang debt—no, ten-thousand-nyang debt, with change left over.
At this point, if he’s going this far, wouldn’t you at least pretend to listen, just to see what kind of bullshit I’m even trying to say?

What he said sounded serious enough that I asked if we should tell the manager, but Im Sebin told me he’d handle it, so I should stop sticking my nose in it. But it really didn’t look like he would handle it, so I also remembered secretly telling the manager anyway.
But even then, nothing weird has been found yet.
‘Still, it didn’t feel like he was just bullshitting. He really looked pissed.’
Im Sebin is prickly… fine, I’ll say it nicely. He’s delicate, the kind of person who reacts sharply even to other people touching him. So wouldn’t he react to “eyes” the same way?
I asked again to learn more, but then he went right back to his silent monk routine, so there was no progress.
Unlike my head, which was replaying the past, my eyes never left the fan who had gotten a signal from Kyeon Inwoo and was now stepping toward me.
‘It’s not even a day off. And on a fan sign day, this kind of thought pops into my head.’
Nothing had happened yet with Im Sebin, and it’s not like I can do anything with nothing but “a gaze.” I told the manager, and the manager said he told the company, so for now there’s nothing else to do but trust that.
And between that and the stuff tied up with Cheon Sayun, it felt like my karma was piling up one by one.
‘It’s probably just in my head.’
That fan, who seemed to like Kyeon Inwoo the most and couldn’t take their eyes off him the whole time they were moving down the line, finally turned their head at the gaze they felt on the side of their face—and faced Go Youngin straight on.
Looking at the fan, I tossed my thoughts aside out of habit and smiled as I greeted them. Even lines I’d never be able to say with my real personality came out naturally.
Because for now, this matters more than the weird stuff I can’t make sense of.
