Sang He looked at Jiang Yin, her eyes instantly filling with wariness. Even the way she addressed her had changed.
At that moment, Jiang Yin hated her own subconscious. For a while, she didn’t know how to react.
Just then, Fu Yunchuan smiled and took Sang He’s small hand. “We have a driver. Let her sit up front, and you can sit in the back with me. If I were driving, the passenger seat would definitely be yours.”
Though he explained, Jiang Yin still felt inexplicably stifled.
Sang He, however, was happy. She looked at Jiang Yin. “I’m sorry, Sister Jiang Yin. I misunderstood you. When we’re not at work, can I call you Sister Jiang Yin?”
“Suit yourself.”
With that, Jiang Yin opened the passenger-side door and got in.
They arrived at Manshan Yunlou.
All the way there, Sang He clung to the man’s arm, chattering away, while he looked at her with indulgent affection.
Jiang Yin followed behind and watched. She wouldn’t dare act so unrestrained with Fu Yunchuan. Perhaps it was because she knew he would never indulge her endlessly without growing tired of it.
Fu Yunchuan had booked a private room. Most of the doctors from the department had come, along with all the nurses who weren’t on duty.
They all praised Sang He’s boyfriend for treating her so well.
“Doctor Sang, you and your boyfriend are so close. Why don’t you drink a cross-cupped toast?” someone who didn’t know the situation suggested.
Sang He froze for a moment, then her little face flushed. “I—I can’t drink…”
“Then use water instead. It’s Doctor Sang’s first day at work, so let’s do it for good luck! Or does President Fu keep such a tight rein on you at home that he won’t let you drink?”
Holding a glass of water, Sang He gazed imploringly at Fu Yunchuan. “Brother Yunchuan…”
The young woman didn’t object, so of course he indulged her. He was just about to pick up his glass when someone spoke up. “Hey, if you’re going to drink a cross-cupped toast, one of you has to drink alcohol. Otherwise, what’s the point?”
Fu Yunchuan smiled and reached for the wine.
“She’s pregnant, so I’ll drink for her. Thank you all for looking after Hehe.”
As everyone cheered them on, Jiang Yin watched helplessly as the two linked arms and drank the cross-cupped toast. Sang He’s face was scarlet with shyness, glowing even more alluringly under the lights.
Fu Yunchuan never drank. Whenever he did, one glass was enough to knock him out. In the past, Jiang Yin had always drunk in his place; she could drink until she vomited blood, and he still wouldn’t stop anyone from offering him a glass.
Now, though, he was willing to drink for Sang He.
The scene looked just like their engagement party: lively and full of celebration. They were the happy couple at its center.
After they finished their cross-cupped toast, everyone teased them, “Doctor Sang is already pregnant. When are we having the wedding feast?”
Sang He pressed her lips together and said nothing.
The man smiled, but his eyes turned toward Jiang Yin. “I’m ready whenever she is.”
At those words, Jiang Yin turned cold all over, as if she were standing in the middle of a frozen wasteland.
What he meant was that if Sang He wanted to, he was ready to divorce Jiang Yin at any time.
At the dinner, Sang He blushed, while Jiang Yin’s eyes reddened.
Everyone kept raising their glasses to Fu Yunchuan, flattering and currying favor with him.
In a corner, Jiang Yin lowered her eyes. She couldn’t bear to stay any longer. She picked up her bag and planned to slip away quietly amid the revelry.
“Jiang Yin…”
The man suddenly called her name. Jiang Yin stiffened, her heart trembling with her.
Sang He, beside him, had gone deathly pale. Jiang Yin thought she must have imagined it, but when she turned around, she met the young woman’s disbelieving, panicked gaze.
Fu Yunchuan’s voice was hoarse from drinking. “Wife, I feel awful…”
His eyes were still fixed on Jiang Yin.
A surge of turbulent emotion rushed through Jiang Yin’s mind. That one word—“wife”—made her certain Fu Yunchuan couldn’t have been calling her just now, because he had never called her that.
“Doctor Sang, President Fu is drunk. He’s calling you. Why aren’t you answering?”
The stunned guests came to their senses too. “That’s right, President Fu’s calling you.”
President Fu didn’t even know Jiang Yin. How could he possibly be calling her?
Only then did Sang He react. She hurriedly pulled the man’s head onto her shoulder. “I’m here, Brother Yunchuan. I’ll make you some hangover soup when we get home…”
Jiang Yin took a taxi home. The house was cold and empty.
Thinking of how affectionate the two of them had looked at dinner, Jiang Yin felt even colder…
She went to the study and turned on the computer. She drafted a divorce agreement so she could have a divorce lawyer look it over afterward.
In the middle of the night, Jiang Yin was half asleep when she felt someone wrap their arms around her. The strong smell of alcohol came with him.
The man nuzzled her neck, his voice hoarse. “Wife, why did you leave me behind and go home by yourself…”
