Yet this rare explanation was given for the sake of his mistress. It was like a sharp blade plunging into her heart, again and again, until the wound gushed with blood.

He couldn’t go two sentences without mentioning that Sang He was pregnant and needed to be carefully looked after, that his precious girl deserved consideration at every turn. What about her?

She was pregnant too, yet apparently she deserved to be pushed aside. Today, she had seen for herself what it meant to be cherished and cared for—and what it meant to be discarded like rubbish.Full novel: Coveting on a Spring Night — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

She could barely keep herself from trembling. Gritting her teeth, she fought back the grievance and bitterness welling up inside her. The Fu family was the richest in Jinggang, yet the Young Madam was pushed aside at every turn. It would be laughable if word got out.

But the future head of the Fu family was standing up for his mistress.

And as for her—the Jiang family had fallen, her mother was gravely ill, and her older brother had gone missing. What right did she have to challenge Fu Yunchuan?

Jiang Yin curled her lips in a smile, her eyes cold. “President Fu, how generous—and so considerate of your girlfriend. I can only step aside and let you have your way.”

With that, she turned to go to the office and gather her things.

But Sang He called after her.

“Director Jiang, I’m really sorry. You have to come to dinner tonight! We’ll order whatever you like, and I’ll have Brother Yunchuan offer you a few extra toasts to thank you for giving me your office~”

Though she acted as if she felt terribly guilty for taking Jiang Yin’s office, every word was really a declaration of ownership.

With fifteen minutes left before the end of the workday, Fu Yunchuan arrived. He had already arranged cars and had them waiting in the parking lot. He was there to let everyone know.

Sang He was so delighted to be cherished and given such importance that she could hardly stop smiling.

Jiang Yin had no intention of going. Her presence would only spoil Sang He’s mood. She gathered her bag, ready to leave.

“Director Jiang, why don’t you ride with me and Brother Yunchuan?” Sang He asked with a bright smile, her arm linked through Fu Yunchuan’s.

“I have something to take care of at home, so I won’t be going.”

Sang He pressed her lips together, her gaze drooping. She looked unhappy. “Oh…”

She bit her lip and looked at Jiang Yin with a plaintive, pitiful expression. “Director Jiang, are you still angry with me because of the office?”

Sang He really was shameless—getting what she wanted and still playing the victim. Jiang Yin couldn’t stand it anymore. She gave her a cool smile. “Do I seem that petty to you, Doctor Sang? Isn’t that a bit like judging a gentleman by a small-minded person’s standards?”

The young woman’s face flushed instantly. She hadn’t expected the seemingly easygoing Jiang Yin to suddenly turn sharp. Her eyes reddened. “I didn’t mean that… How could you think that of me?”

It seemed the woman had embarrassed his precious girl. The man’s expression shifted almost imperceptibly, turning cold and stern. “You’re Hehe’s doctor. You’re responsible for her prenatal care, so you’re coming with us. I’ll pay you separately for your time after work—twenty thousand an hour.”

Sang He tugged at his sleeve, her voice soft and sweet. “Brother Yunchuan, never mind. That’s too expensive…”

The man patted the young woman’s head, his every gesture full of affection. “You matter most. No amount of money is worth more than your happiness and the baby’s health.”

Jiang Yin clenched the bag in her hands. Back when she hadn’t been earning a salary, she’d once asked Fu Yunchuan for two thousand to cover her living expenses during her hospital internship. He’d only said he had no money to give her and that if she wasn’t capable, she could stay home and be a good, obedient full-time wife.

But for Sang He, he was throwing around hundreds of thousands and millions. His legitimate wife had to bask in his mistress’s reflected glory just to get any money from her husband.

What a humiliating, bitter irony.

Jiang Yin took a deep breath. A piercing pain coursed through her nerves, making even breathing hurt.

She wanted to refuse, but her mother at the nursing home had just started on a new, specialized medication, and they needed the money. She also had to pay Lin Chuyi back.

In the end, she agreed, bowing to money.

They soon arrived at the underground parking lot.

Jiang Yin instinctively reached for the front passenger door.

“Sister Jiang Yin, that’s my seat—”
