Jiang Yin gathered her emotions, tidied herself up a little, and soon arrived at the hospital.
The moment she stepped through the entrance to the obstetrics department, the emotions she had just managed to gather shattered all over again.
She saw Fu Yunchuan carrying Sang He toward the examination room. His face was full of worry and concern as he walked, reassuring her, “Don’t be afraid, Hehe. I’m right here.”
His voice was tender beyond words. She had never seen him show such emotion, and she had never once heard Fu Yunchuan say anything kind to her.
The sight was excruciating. It felt as though a knife were carving into her heart. Knowing that he loved Sang He was one thing; seeing it with her own eyes was another.
Her hand hanging at her side clenched tight, her nails nearly digging into her flesh, but she felt no pain at all.
Jiang Yin tried to take a step, only to find her limbs as heavy as lead.
“Director Jiang, you’re here! What are you standing around for?” A colleague spotted her and hurried over, briefly explaining the patient’s condition. “The pregnant woman fell and says she’s bleeding. The pregnancy is unstable. The problem is, she also has congenital heart disease and allergies to some medications, so there are a lot of drugs we can’t use. The situation is really complicated.”
As the colleague explained, she led Jiang Yin toward the examination room. “The main thing is, her husband looks terribly worried. His face is so dark and grim. He specifically asked for the best doctor in our hospital. I was afraid he’d say something like, ‘If you can’t save the baby, all of you will pay for it,’ the very next second.”
Jiang Yin’s expression was poor. As she listened, a dense tangle of feelings crept into her heart—bitter and ironic. Husband. Whose husband was he, exactly?
Perhaps the one who wasn’t loved was the mistress after all.
She pushed open the examination-room door and saw Fu Yunchuan’s eyes fixed on Sang He’s face, his gaze filled with an indescribable tenderness and concern.
“I understand the general situation.” Wearing her white coat, Jiang Yin passed Fu Yunchuan without a glance and walked straight toward Sang He.
When Fu Yunchuan saw Jiang Yin enter, his expression remained composed. He didn’t even raise an eyelid, showing not the slightest embarrassment at being caught.
Jiang Yin thought that, never mind Sang He—even she was starting to wonder whether she was really his wife.
She began examining Sang He. “Is your stomach hurting badly?”
Sang He lay on the bed, delicate and soft, looking utterly pitiful.
“A little, but it doesn’t hurt that much.”
“Have you eaten anything cold?”
“I don’t think so…” Sang He pressed her lips together. “I can’t really remember what I ate today.”
The silent man beside her spoke up. “She had lean pork and seafood congee this morning, and drank pork bone soup. At noon, she had crucian carp soup and some organic vegetables. Tonight, she had chicken soup and corn with pork ribs, then mango for dessert.”
Jiang Yin stiffened slightly and looked at Fu Yunchuan in disbelief.
He couldn’t even remember when her birthday was, and on that very day he had made a grand public announcement about Sang He.
Yet he knew every detail of Sang He’s daily routine. He was considerate and attentive in every aspect of her life.
Jiang Yin’s hand clenched tight. Everything before her was like a needle piercing her heart. The difference between being loved and not being loved… was it really this obvious?
Fu Yunchuan looked at Jiang Yin. “Doctor, is there anything wrong with the food she ate?”
Personally examining her husband’s girlfriend’s pregnancy, while her own husband acted as though he didn’t know her.
His cold, unfamiliar gaze, his attitude, the atmosphere—it all pressed down on her so heavily that she could barely breathe. Her hands and feet began to grow cold, and with every breath, her heart seemed to ache.
Jiang Yin looked away and took a deep breath. “No.”
She was cool and composed, her slight frame held perfectly straight. Her hand tightened a little. After a long moment, she finally said, “The family should step outside for a moment. I need to do some examinations.”
“What examination can’t I watch?” Fu Yunchuan’s gaze settled on her, neither warm nor cold, like a sharp blade stabbing into her heart.
