Sang He didn’t notice Jiang Yin’s expression. She set the breakfast on the table and said, “You have to eat, okay?”

Then, without waiting to see whether Jiang Yin wanted it or not, she turned and left.

Jiang Yin’s brows drew together as she looked at the breakfast on the table. Even her breathing had gone uneven.Full novel: Coveting on a Spring Night — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

It was an elaborate spread: seafood congee, eggs, and pancakes. It was clear the man had put a lot of care into making it.

But looking at it, all she felt was bitter irony. She had been married to Fu Yunchuan for five years, yet she had never known he could cook.

She stared at the breakfast for a long, long time, until her eyes began to sting and feel dry.

Jiang Yin took a deep breath and gave a mocking smile, then picked up the food and threw it into the trash.

Just then, an early-arriving colleague came in.

“Dr. Jiang, I heard that little girl you saw yesterday has quite a bit of backing.” Lin Chuyi was a resident physician. Looking at Jiang Yin, she said, “She’s a fourth-year medical student. She was supposed to join our hospital, but she didn’t pass the entrance exam, so the director rejected her.”

“But she has connections. You know who her boyfriend is? Fu Yunchuan. If she bats her eyelashes at him, she might just get in.”

Jiang Yin sneered inwardly. She had known what Fu Yunchuan was capable of for a long time. Given how indulgent he was toward Sang He, if Sang He begged a little, he really would arrange for her to get in.

Jiang Yin’s lips curved slightly. “Someone without ability won’t last long, even if she gets in through connections.”

“She’s got it good—landed herself a rich guy and skipped decades of hard work.” Lin Chuyi shrugged. “But you’re right. Even if she gets in, she’ll have to fend for herself. If she can’t do the job, she’ll have to leave.”

Huadong Hospital’s evaluations were extremely strict.

After working all day, Jiang Yin returned home looking pale and sickly. Doctors’ schedules were always upside down, and she was already in poor health. On top of that, she’d been dragged to the hospital in the middle of the night yesterday.

Today she had performed two surgeries back-to-back. Even a healthy person couldn’t keep going like that, let alone someone pregnant. She felt utterly drained, body and mind. Her steps were light and unsteady, and as soon as she came in, she sank onto the sofa. She was simply too tired.

She rubbed her temples miserably, her head swimming.

“Why are you back so late today?” Fu Yunchuan appeared from somewhere, his tone full of displeasure and reproach.

He paid no attention to how pale and ill she looked. Almost in a commanding voice, he said, “Go make dinner for me. I want steamed pork ribs with rice flour.”

He was used to ordering her around. After all, that was how things had been for years.

Jiang Yin hadn’t expected Fu Yunchuan to be home. At this hour, he should have been taking care of his pregnant young girlfriend.

She wearily raised her eyes to look at him. Even in his black silk loungewear, he looked refined and elegant.

Her voice was hoarse. “Where’s Auntie Chen?”

“She quit.” Looking down at her, Fu Yunchuan spoke without any discernible emotion. “You like cooking and doing housework, don’t you? I’m making you happy.”

She liked it? Jiang Yin found that almost laughable.

So all those times she’d done everything herself to please him, he’d taken it as proof that she enjoyed doing it.

Jiang Yin lowered her eyes and stopped looking at him. A thick wave of discomfort closed in from all sides like seawater, nearly drowning her.

“I don’t feel well.” She bit her pale lips and shakily got to her feet. “You’ll have to sort out dinner yourself.”

With that, she turned to go upstairs. She had no desire to argue with Fu Yunchuan; she just wanted to wash up and rest.

But the instant she turned, the man grabbed her slender wrist—
