Mercury opened his eyes and immediately felt a wave of pain. ’ What the fuck, I feel like I’ve been hit by a truck.’

He rubbed his head and felt something wet and warm, he brought down his hand and it was covered in blood.

’ What happened, why am I bleeding, the last thing I remember I was in my room playing a video game and..’Full novel: Cursed Mage with Infinite Mana — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

No matter how hard he thought he couldn’t remember past that. His head started throbbing and a mind numbing pain followed.

" AHHHHHH!" Mercury screamed at the top of his lungs, memories flooded his brain but they were not his.

This lasted for what felt like hours but it was merely seconds, the pain subsided but his ears were still buzzing.

Faintly he started hearing voices in front of him and raised his head, in front of him stood two people.

A young man about 17 or 18 years old dressed to impress, to his side was a blonde woman with the beauty of a super model.

Mercury browsed through the memories and found these two, ’ Ah this isn’t good.’ Mercury just felt exhausted, none of the memories involving these two were good.

" Didn’t you hear me you trash, I said lick my shoe and I might consider giving you some pocket change."

Said the young man, his name was Marcus Von Drell, he is what one might describe as an asshole who bullies the weak.

Firstly he stole Mercury’s fiancée but even that wasn’t enough, for years he tormented and bullied Mercury until the poor lad died.

" How pitiful." Mercury whispered, he felt sorry for the other Mercury. Seeing Mercury ignore him.

Marcus lost it and stepped on his head banging his forehead on the hard floor, Mercury who was already in pain felt like his head was splitting apart.

He grabbed the foot stepping on him and shoved it aside, this angered Marcus even more.

He kicked Mercury on the chest sending him flying more than 8 metres through the air. Mercury rolled on the ground and didn’t rise back up.

He could barely breathe, he felt as if he’s been hit by a speeding truck, ’ Is this bastard trying to kill me?’

Mercury gritted his teeth, what Marcus did went beyond just school bullying, unfortunately Mercury had nobody to rely on.

In this world, nobility was everything and Marcus was the favoured son of a duke, Mercury was also a duke’s son.

However because of his lack of magical talent, his family did not value him at all, in fact they sent him here to get rid of him until he came of age.

Mercury continued lying there on the cafeteria floor unmoving, time passed and everybody left.

He was left alone on the cold floor until nightfall, nobody dared to help him, even the teachers didn’t dare go against Marcus.

At midnight, Mercury finally had enough strength to get up, he dragged himself to his feet and went back to his room.

He dragged his broken body, each step he took felt like a thousand needles were piercing his bones.

Unlike the other students he didn’t live in the dormitories, instead he lived in a small house behind the academy.

He dragged himself inside and closed the door then climbed onto bed and immediately drifted into sleep.

The next morning he felt much better, " The regenerative speed of people in this world is really insane." Said Mercury with amazement.

From the memories of the previous Mercury, he knew this world was a standard magic type world.

People here were born with Mana, everybody had mana and everybody had the potential to learn magic.

However this world was not quite as fair, people were not born equal here and there were biological limits impossible to breach.

Like one’s mana pool, people are born with set mana limits, they can train to use this mana effectively.

However no amount of training can increase one’s mana pool, those called nobles are the descendants of those who had larger mana pools.

As such, their descendents are also born with large mana pools, even a weak noble had a much larger mana pool than a standard commoner.

Of course a larger mana pool did not necessarily mean greater strength, spells and techniques mattered.

But the nobles were also hoarding the strongest techniques and spells as well. Mercury himself was a noble.

Born to a duke, his family only stood below the royal family and equal to only to a few other families.

They were rulers of this empire, unfortunately Mercury was born with a curse.

His mana pool was larger than normal even compared to members of his family, large enough to rival those of the royal blood.

He had affinity with all the elements meaning there wasn’t a spell he couldn’t learn, or so it was meant to be.

Unfortunately Mercury couldn’t learn any spells above F rank spells, spells and techniques were divided into levels depending on their power.

F rank was the lowest and that was the limit of the spells he could cast, no matter how hard he tried.

The previous Mercury couldn’t accept this and as the genius he was did an experiment to break the curse.

This is what led to his death, more specifically the experiment damaged him so much that a single attack from Marcus killed him almost instantly.

Right then, this Mercury’s soul was somehow transported into this world and took over the old Mercury’s body.

" That guy was quite unlucky." Mercury almost laughed, he couldn’t imagine how somebody’s life could be that miserable.

" If I don’t change anything, that life will be mine next but without strength, I really can’t change anything."

He went to the back of his house, his house was a bit far from the common school grounds.

Even when he practiced spells here, nobody would hear or bother him, it was perfect for him.

Mercury browsed through the memories and found the spells he was looking for, the previous Mercury had learnt as many spells as he could.

" Breathe of Ifrit, rise and incinerate my foes, fireball." He cast a fireball and shot a fist sized ball of fire.

It exploded nearly 20 metres away sending a wave of fire in every direction. Mercury stood frozen.

" This is the lowest ranking spell? Not even the strongest grenade could rival this type of destructive power."

He felt excited and browsed through his spells again but amidst that he noticed his mana pool did not drop.

Mercury dismissed that and cast another spell, a fire arrow appeared before him before shooting off to the distance.

Again, his mana pool did not drop, ’ No, that’s not it, I’m absorbing the ambient mana, how?’
