Mercury didn’t bother going to the library, he’s been there multiple times in the past four years.
In fact he was probably the student who went there the most and not once had he ever learnt of such a method.
’ I might need to leave the school grounds.’ Leaving the school grounds was not that easy.
You needed permission from the deacon and Mercury hadn’t set foot out of here in the past four years.
He wanted to go ask but he had a feeling things wouldn’t go as well for him, the deacon was part of Marcus’s faction.
However he had no other choice, he immediately left for the deacon’s office, ’ Damnit, this bastard is here.’
He could hear Marcus’s arrogant voice inside the office, even when talking to the deacon he showed no respect.
Mercury stopped inside the door he hesitated but decided to knock.
" I’m busy, come back later!" Shouted the deacon with annoyance.
" No no it’s fine, I’m leaving anyways." Said Marcus but when he opened the door and saw Mercury he smiled.
" If It isn’t the noble son of the Al’ Karl duke family, how are you doing young master?" Said Marcus with sarcasm.
’ If I only could beat this bastard, I would’ve knocked his teeth out.’ Mercury calmed himself down.
He knew angering Marcus here would do him no good so he bowed his head showing as much respect as he could fake.
This pleased Marcus but instead of being satisfied, " Tell me what do you want from the deacon? I might be able to help you." He asked.
Knowing the deacon was under this guy’s thumb, lying to him would really do no good so he came honest.
" I was going to ask the deacon to allow me to leave the school grounds for a few days, if that’s alright."
Mercury was straining himself trying not to say anything rude or offensive to this narcissistic bastard.
" Is that so?" Asked Marcus, " Why do you want to leave, what could you possibly need or even afford outside?"
Mercury knew he needed to find a lie and fast, the longer he delays answering the more suspicious he’ll be.
But if he answered too quickly they might know he’s lying. " I..I was thinking of joining the adventures guild." Mercury answered.
Marcus stood there frozen, even the deacon was caught by surprise. " Join the adventures guild, you? That’s the funniest thing I’ve heard."
Marcus bursted out with laughter, he laughed so much tears fell down his eyes. " Don’t fucken mess with me you worthless piece of shit.
Tell me the truth right now or you’re not leaving this school." Demanded Marcus with cold eyes.
" I’m telling you the truth, you’re free to not believe me." Said Mercury with a bit of annoyance.
He was mimicking the late Mercury, although he usually lowered himself in front of Marcus.
There were instances where he showed annoyance and frustration and even lashed back with harsh words.
Marcus looked into his eyes, " Fine, let see what you’ll do as an adventure, if you want the get yourself killed, go ahead.
That way, nobody will be standing in the way of my relationship with Emilia, deacon, give this rat permission."
Mercury smiled, softly but hid it soon after, the deacon granted him permission and Mercury left the school grounds.
The mage academy was in the north of the capital city a few kilometres from the market street, the school itself was very large.
The academy itself was large enough to be a small city and the capital city was basically a small country.
Mercury looked at his funds and sighed, " I can afford a carriage but then I won’t be able to buy anything with the money I have."
He sighed and looked at the distant city, then started walking. He reached the market place a few hours later.
Mercury started searching through small book stores, most sold novels and diaries of adventurers.
It was only on the fifth store that he finally found a spell book, unfortunately it was only a water arrow spell. An F rank spell he already knew.
The store clerk approached him, it was an old man with a wizards hat and long white beard, people who dressed like this.
Were either posers pretending to be wise or sages, Mercury had only ever heard rumours of sages.
In fact he’s only ever heard that they existed and that was it, how they were or how strong they were was just a mystery.
" Can I help you young man? Are you looking for powerful spells, I have a lot of them for low prices."
Said the old man, Mercury wanted to ignore him, he knew scammers when he saw one and this old man couldn’t even hide that.
" Really?" He heard sn excited voice behind him and saw a young girl about his age skipping towards the old man.
" Yes yes indeed, we have a variety of spells and skills powerful enough to even kill dragon." Bragged the old man.
" Show me show me." The girl was basically jumping with excitement.
’ Oy oy oy, you can’t really be that naive can you?’ Mercury shook his head and turned to leave.
" Young man, I think I might have what you’re looking for." Said the old man.
Mercury turned back and a book hit him on the face with enough force to knock him down.
" Ouch ouch ouch, that hurt." Mercury complained and glared at the old man with anger.
" He he he, take it, on the house, you can pay me back later." Said the old man.
" How do you know I won’t just run away?" Asked Mercury, the old man smiled but he didn’t answer.
Mercury turned to leave, the old man called out just as he left the door, " Go visit the dwarves on the flame street, they can make you what you need."
Mercury froze, ’ How did..’ he said nothing and rushed out of there but he followed the old man’s advice.
He had planned to anyways and went to find the dwarven crafters.
" What do you want little girl?" Asked the dwarf with a long brown beard.
" I’m a boy." Answered Mercury. " I need you to make me rings, like this one." He showed him the bracelet.
" Alright, come back tomorrow."
Mercury left, he found a cheap inn and spent the night, the following morning he went back to the dwarves.
" Here lad, you didn’t specify how many you wanted so I made this many." The dwarf dropped over 20 rings.
Each with a void mana stone, Mercury froze, " Sorry old man, I can’t pay for all of this."
" Don’t worry little girl, it’s been paid for."
" By who?" Mercury asked, the dwarf shrugged and shooed him off, he went to the adventures guild.
Signing up was easy, as long as you didn’t have a criminal record anybody could become a adventure.
Off course there was an age requirement which he met, he signed up starting at the lowest F rank adventure.
Then he went back to the academy, reported to the deacon who asked him a lot of questions.
Mercury lied through his teeth, he went to his room and opened the book the old man gave him.
The book only had one technique titled, " Bolt."
