“What’s wrong?”
Xie Heng finished his call, put his phone in his bag, and saw Cui Heyuan’s thunderstruck expression. He walked over to the two of them.
“Heng, you might not believe it, but a minor sneaked into the casino and started gambling. How many years do you think the owner of this place will get?”
Cui Heyuan looked somewhat dejected.
Xie Heng looked at the gambling table and smiled, “I don’t know, anyway, I’m not the owner.”
“Are you even speaking human language?” Cui Heyuan glared at him disapprovingly, “Have you found out anything about that kid? The bodyguard must have had an invitation to let him in.”
But how did the invitation end up in this kid’s hands?
Xie Heng took a sip of his drink and shook his head. “Not yet, almost.”
Wei Yansi kept his eyes glued to the gambling table, looking intently. “Let me tell you, this kid is something else. She’s put all her chips on the black 33.”
“What? A direct bet? That’s so daring!”
Xie Heng was also surprised by this. He looked out the window. The girl’s hat obscured most of her face, her long, thin hair casually pulled back. She stared intently at the roulette wheel.
Her body wasn’t tense, and her movements were relaxed. She was even holding a bottle of cola, biting the straw and drinking. She seemed to be just playing casually.
Besides the three of them, there were other friends in the private room, mostly playing around the table. Seeing the three of them standing motionless by the window, they invited them to join in. Wei Yansi refused, so they didn’t insist.
After all, the three of them were the ones with the final say in this room.
The roulette wheel spun slower and slower. The people around the gambling table who had placed bets held their breath, no longer making a sound, their eyes fixed on the numbers and balls on the roulette wheel.
What was rather unusual was Shang Yan. She appeared relaxed, showing no signs of tension, and even took out her phone to browse short videos, laughing out loud at amusing comments.
The man standing next to her was completely convinced that Shang Yan was simply there for fun with her elders. Her relaxed and composed demeanor, coupled with the relatively small number of chips on the table, practically sealed his suspicions.
When it was almost time, the dealer called out to stop betting, waving her arm horizontally on the table. Those about to place their bets were somewhat annoyed by the sudden halt.
The ball began to slow down. Shang Yan put away her phone and looked at the roulette wheel. The spinning speed decreased, and the surrounding breathing became more rapid, but the dealer’s face remained beautiful.
Shang Yan and the dealer exchanged a glance, her eyes crinkling slightly. The dealer seemed to notice her smile, and her formulaic smile became more genuine, as if wishing her good luck.
Finally, the ball stopped on the black 33 square, and a loud gasp erupted from the crowd. Everyone looked at the young girl; the shockwave was so strong that it even reached the people on the second floor.
Cui Heyuan exclaimed “Holy crap!” several times, almost jumping up in excitement, but Xie Heng quickly pressed him back down.
“That’s incredible! Holy crap, is that just good luck? That’s off the charts!”
Wei Yansi was also astonished. He thought the kid was just brave, but he didn’t expect her to be so lucky. She must have been blessed with good fortune.
“Is this what they call a newbie perk? Damn, I should have played the ‘handsome’ bet on my first time at the table. She could brag about it for the rest of her life.” It was
truly enviable luck. Countless bettors hoped for such a moment, but such moments are always rare and unpredictable.
Xie Heng had a different opinion. He noticed that the girl downstairs placed her bet only after the ball entered the roulette wheel. If it were her first time playing, or if she was just playing casually, she would have placed her bet before that.
But she deliberately placed all her chips on the tablecloth without hesitation after the ball spun twice. Xie Heng didn’t believe she had no experience.
There was a knock on the door of the private room. The person who was nearby opened the door immediately. The manager walked over to Xie Heng and the other two, gave them the information he had found, and then left.
The information on the document was simple and clean, seemingly flawless at first glance. However , those who studied it closely would discover it was a template of platitudes, too lazy even to be perfunctory.
In other words, everything found on it was fake.
Oh, the gender was real.
The pretty female dealer couldn’t help but glance a few more times at the young girl in front of her who had covered most of her face.
Casinos are places where all sorts of people gather, and those who have been there for a while develop a knack for judging character. Well-dressed rich kids who like to bring girls are mostly into high-stakes games, unconcerned about losing tens of millions in one night; they’re mainly there for fun.
Another type of player, adorned in gold and silver, plays with more passion. Most are heavily addicted to gambling, with large stakes. For them, a win or a loss represents a significant portion of their fortune—a single step to heaven or hell. Such games stimulate their brains, producing a pleasure comparable to methamphetamine.
However, those like Shang Yan, who enter the casino with a clear objective, decisive actions, and a winning edge, whose courage and aura are completely out of place, are generally invited to the VIP room on the second floor.
The Guangming Casino has two floors. The first floor lobby is for all invited players—wealthy individuals from various regions who are selected through introductions. Although these people are prominent figures in the industry, they can only stay on the first floor.
The second floor is for the true elites to enjoy themselves. Those who pass by are either among the world’s top 100 richest people or scions of powerful families with deep-rooted wealth. Naturally, the second floor is far more luxurious and extravagant than the first, so the real masters stay on the second floor.
Noticing the dealer’s scrutiny, Shang Yan smiled at her. Her eyes were her most striking feature, with slightly elongated outer corners and soft, expressive lines, lively and charming. “Next game for you,”
she said. The dealer seemed a little shy under her gaze. The employees at Guangming Casino were all intelligent; they received training in two or three foreign languages before starting work. Because the casino was frequented by many foreign businessmen, their wages were relatively high.
Shang Yan meant she would tip her if she won the next round. Players usually only tipped the dealer after winning a substantial sum. For
this young girl to say that indicated she was confident of winning the next round as well. The dealer couldn’t help but glance at Shang Yan a few more times, astonished by her confidence and composure.
The second game began.
“Players, you can place your bets now.”
The dealer’s voice was sweet and alluring, even more so under the influence of wine and cigarettes. This sensual and exciting scene piqued the interest of many, and the number of bettors only increased.
Hearing that someone had won a straight bet at roulette, people gathered around out of curiosity, stopping their own games to see what was going on. Shang Yan was quickly surrounded by the crowd; the air felt compressed, and the mixed smells assaulted her nostrils.
She exhaled, deciding to endure it; she would move on to another table after one more round.
