[Region: Pacifica] [District: Coastview] [Factions: Scavengers, Voodoo Boys] [Evaluation: Pacifica was meant to be a playground for the rich, but dried-up investments left it a rotting, derelict husk.
Tourists are long gone, replaced by the Voodoo Boys and Scavs who treat the streets like a war zone.
With no police presence, the Voodoo Boys act as the de facto authority.
It’s dangerous for the uninitiated—don’t wander on foot; take a motorcycle or an armored vehicle.
The chaos has a silver lining, though: if you need rare black-market goods or illegal cyberware, this is the place to find them.] “This is Pacifica?” Levi stepped out of the taxi and was immediately greeted by the pop-pop-pop of gunfire.
A few dozen yards away, a group of Animals and Scavs were duking it out for turf.
Bullets hissed through the air, yet the few locals in sight didn’t even flinch.
To them, it was just another Tuesday.
“Damn, Mano,” Jackie muttered, stepping out behind him.
“Padre said it was bad, but this is a war zone.” “That’s why the NCPD rates this sector ‘Disaster,'” Levi replied.
“Come on, let’s see what this Biotechnica ‘experiment’ actually is.” Following the intel, they arrived at a derelict six-story tenement, tagged heavily with Voodoo Boys graffiti.
Several low-level gangers stood guard out front, eyeing them like fresh meat.
“Jackie?” Levi nudged him.
Jackie didn’t hesitate; he pulled out La Chingona Dorada, strode up to them, and started a very one-sided “conversation” that ended with several bodies on the concrete.
“T-Bug, you sure the test subject is in this building?” Levi asked.
“Confirmed.
She has a Biotechnica biomonitor pulsing.
I’ve got a lock,” T-Bug’s voice crackled.
“But it’s strange.
Scavs should be able to jam that signal.
They’re technically competent enough for that.” “It’s a trap,” Levi said.
He activated [Vision], his eyes scanning the structure.
Through the walls, he saw dozens of orange silhouettes—dozens of them, swarming every floor.
“Mano, what’s up?” Jackie asked, rejoining him.
“Stay sharp.
It’s an ambush.” Levi drew his Atlas 45 and pushed through the front door.
Using [Vision] to ghost past the patrols, he led Jackie straight to the target’s room.
He could hear the Scavs inside talking.
He leveled his cannon at the wall, tracking the orange outlines.
“T-Bug, kill the power to this building.” “My pleasure,” she replied.
“But my deck can only hold the lockout for ten minutes before the grid reboots.
You’ve got ten minutes to finish this.” “Plenty.” Levi turned to Jackie.
“Go in, grab the girl, and get out the back.
I’m going to give these Scavs a little performance art.” He hadn’t forgotten that these bastards tried to harvest his organs.
Revenge wasn’t a dish best served cold—it was best served with high explosives.
“Ready, T-Bug.
Pull the plug!” Levi triggered [Lock-on].
Click.
The building plunged into total darkness.
“What the hell?” “Fuck, did you forget to pay the electric bill?!” “Fuck you, you didn’t pay it!” “I’m in the middle of a session here!
How am I supposed to—” “One of you, go check the breaker!” A Scav yawned and stepped out of the room.
Jackie caught him from the shadows and snapped his neck.
As the body hit the floor, Levi squeezed the trigger.
Boom-boom-boom!
The Atlas 45 roared, its muzzle flash illuminating the hallway.
Rounds punched through the walls, turning the room inside into a slaughterhouse.
Chaos erupted.
Scavs on other floors flooded the hallways, but blinded by the blackout, they were just stumbling targets.
“Go, Jackie!
Move!” Levi shouted.
He quickly accessed his system, burning credits to pull two dozen high-explosive grenades and trip-mines from his inventory, planting them along the hallway.
“Levi!
Three minutes left!” T-Bug warned.
Footsteps thundered toward them.
“Jackie, clear out!” “They’re tracking us!” T-Bug cut in.
“Levi, they’re trying to brute-force a daemon into your access deck!
I’m tied up fighting their netrunner—you’re on your own!” T-Bug’s feed went dead.
“You think a few daemons can stop me?” Levi grinned.
He spent 100 Renown for a smoke grenade, pulled the pin, and rolled it into the path of the incoming Scavs.
Pssh-thwump.
The corridor vanished into thick, suffocating smoke.
“I can’t see shit!” “Signal lost!” “Who the fuck is touching my ass?!” As the Scavs spiraled into panic, Levi followed Jackie’s retreat.
Suddenly, a massive blast echoed behind them.
The trip-mines had done their work.
The hallway was gone.
