A small and cold voice came from the other end: “He Lang… you’re the one who killed him, right?.”

At this moment, He Lang’s body stiffened, he almost forgot to breathe and his heart trembled. His mind was filled with various thoughts, but he couldn’t grasp any of them, so he could only hold his breath and listen intently.

In the hospital, Lu Yue stared at Deng Hui intently, without the usual concealment and patience. Lu Yue’s eyes were like the gloomy and terrifying sky outside, tightly locking onto every move Deng Hui made.Full novel: Daily Struggles Against the Blackened Male Lead — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

How did he know!

Deng Hui’s heart was pounding, but he forced himself to calm down. The evidence at the scene had been destroyed, and the drug given to He Lang was a new drug not yet released on the market. There was no way he could be suspected.

Was Gu An testing him?

Humph! Deng Hui calmed down from his previous panic and said calmly, “What nonsense are you talking about! How could he possibly be killed by me? It was just a traffic accident.”

“How do you know it was a traffic accident? I don’t recall telling you how He Lang died.” Lu Yue pressed on step by step, as if trying to tear off the layer of fake skin on Deng Hui’s face!

Deng Hui was annoyed, “I heard it! Are you suspecting me based solely on this?”

Deng Hui’s eyes were gradually covered with red, showing signs of madness!

Lu Yue said, “Of course, I’m not only basing it on that.” With that, Lu Yue took out two photos from his pocket, “These are the two people you bribed. You had them drug He Lang and tamper with his car. You did all of this!”

Lu Yue’s eyes widened with anger, his whole being resembling a trapped beast baring its teeth at the enemy, despite not having claws, he roared in despair and hatred at the enemy.

Deng Hui stared at the photos for a few seconds, then turned his bloodshot eyes towards Lu Yue, who was taking a desperate gamble.

Now he understood, Gu An’s previous agreement with him wasn’t just for the company’s investment, but also to find an opportunity to expose him!

Never expected it! He, Deng Hui, would also have a day of being played!

“Are you playing me?” Deng Hui’s eyes flashed with anger as he stood up directly from the hospital bed, glaring fiercely at Lu Yue.

Lu Yue was not at all shaken by Deng Hui’s aura. He asked in a trembling voice, “Do you admit it?”

Lu Yue’s indifferent tone further enraged Deng Hui. Those two people were clearly driven away by him, yet Gu An managed to find them here! And here he was, shouting at him for the dead He Lang!

Gu… An!

Deng Hui suddenly smirked, then reached out an arm to hold Lu Yue tightly in his embrace, while his other hand gripped his chin tightly.

“Let go!”

“Let go? Weren’t you curious whether I killed him or not? Fine, I’ll tell you—I killed He Lang, but it’s also your fault!”

Deng Hui whispered evilly in Lu Yue’s ear, while Lu Yue stared at him with excitement, “You’re talking nonsense!”

“Am I? Let me tell you, when I threatened you to be with me, you agreed on the surface, but you wouldn’t even let me touch you! Were you planning to cut ties with me after the investment came through?”

“What a pity, I knew you were still thinking about that, He Lang. What’s so good about him that you’re so devoted to him?”

“Too bad, if you didn’t love him so much, I wouldn’t have had murderous thoughts towards him. Tell me, isn’t his death your fault?”

Deng Hui seemed to have gone mad, his face raging as he looked at Lu Yue, watching his painful and distorted face, his blood boiling as if ignited.

Meanwhile, He Lang, who suddenly heard these words, felt as if his whole body became frozen, and his blood had also turned to ice.

His mind was still echoing Deng Hui’s words from just now.

—Gu An agreed to be with Deng Hui for the sake of investment. He didn’t betray me. He still loves me…

In an instant, images flooded through He Lang’s mind: the young man in tears while holding his own body in the cold night with the gentle kisses and his fragile and helpless appearance in his dreams – flooded into He Lang’s mind.

His throat felt dry and sore, he couldn’t make a sound. He just watched the young man suffer and even had the thought of killing him!

The young man clearly loved him deeply and was clearly in pain, yet he hadn’t chosen to believe him. Instead, he harbored resentment and disdain. He even gives him hallucinogenic drugs!

He Lang, you are a fvcking idiot!

He Lang’s fist punched the glass, blood flowed from his fingers, yet he didn’t feel any pain. His heart was hurting a hundred times worse—it felt like it was about to shatter!

There were continuous sounds coming from the listening device. He Lang tried his best to suppress the pain in his heart, then rushed out the door, and immediately drove the car away.

Meanwhile, at the hospital, Lu Yue and Deng Hui were confronting each other. Deng Hui was on the brink of madness, his gaze towards Lu Yue becoming increasingly intense.

“He Lang is already dead, there’s no point in you thinking about him. Besides, you seem to have forgotten our agreement—you belong to me now!” With that, Deng Hui aggressively tried to kiss Lu Yue.

Lu Yue wouldn’t let this murderer have his way. His goal had been achieved, so he would of course withdraw as soon as possible. But Deng Hui was too strong, like a raging bull!

001: [Hang in there a bit longer, Host! The male lead is coming soon!]

Lu Yue: [I think you should just shut up!]

001 pouted, falling silent.

Fortunately, nurses on duty heard the noise and called a few people over to restrain the frenzied Deng Hui. They injected a sedative to calm the situation, restoring the silence in the room.

“Why is this patient going crazy again? I just gave him some medicine this afternoon!” The young nurse complained, then suddenly noticed Lu Yue standing there, looking lost and bewildered, which startled her.

“Sir, are you okay? You look pale,” the nurse asked with concern.

Lu Yue shook his head lightly. “I’m fine, thank you. I’ll be going now.”

“Hey, it’s raining outside!” The nurse called after him, but the young man seemed oblivious as he walked into the rain.

001: [Congratulations, Host! The male lead’s blackening value has decreased by 50! Now it’s down to 25!]

Lu Yue: [Where is he now?]

001: [He’s on his way to find you.]

Lu Yue: [Make me look weaker quickly.]

001: [Is the Host still trying to play the victim?]

Lu Yue: [Now that He Lang has just found out the truth, I need to take advantage of the situation and push his blackening value down hard.]

The black car drove through the rain, He Lang pushed the car to its maximum speed. When he arrived at the hospital entrance, he suddenly saw a slender figure – it was Gu An!

Meanwhile, Lu Yue walked in the rain, soaked to the bone. Each step he took was slow, as if he were a soul without a body.

He Lang abruptly stopped the car, dashed over, and forcefully grabbed Lu Yue’s wrist. The burning warmth of his touch sent shivers down He Lang’s spine. He felt like his heart was being burned.

“Are you out of your mind? You have a fever and you didn’t even realize it!” He Lang yelled at Lu Yue, both worried and angry. But Lu Yue just mechanically turned his head to look at him, his eyes vacant and distant.

“You’re… Zhou He?” He looked at the tall man in front of him, and it seemed like he took a lot of effort to pronounce his name.

With that utterance, He Lang realized his own voice was hoarse.

“This is… an audio recorder. It’s evidence of Deng Hui murdering He Lang. Please hand it over to the police for me,” Lu Yue said, stuffing the black recorder into the man’s suit pocket before slumping backward.

He Lang immediately caught him in his arms. Lu Yue was wet and feverish. He Lang’s eyes flashed with pain, then he quickly carried him into the hospital.

“The patient was already weak, and you let him walk in the rain!” A doctor in a white coat scolded, his face grim. “If he had come any later, he would’ve ended up with brain damage!”

The tall man stood there, bowing his head to look at the young man whose face was flushed with fever on the bed. He tightly clenched his fists, revealing the anxiety and unease in his heart.

“When the patient wakes up, remember to give him some water and let him rest for a few more days. Don’t tire him out,” the doctor in the white coat instructed before leaving angrily.

The room suddenly became quiet, with only the sound of rain outside the window, and the dull thud of rain hitting the glass.

He Lang sat by the bedside, quietly observing the man’s face. The man seemed even thinner than a few days ago, with deep hollows in his cheeks, as if a piece of flesh had been cut out. His eye sockets were sunken, and the deep eye bags made him look extremely haggard.

Seeing Lu Yue like this, He Lang felt so distressed and had a sense of heartache. He slowly reached out his hand, wanting to gently touch the man’s face, but he saw the youth suddenly furrowed his brows as if startled.

“Ah Lang… I didn’t betray you, I didn’t…” Lu Yue cried out helplessly, as if desperately explaining something.

“No, no, it’s not true, I didn’t… It wasn’t me…” Lu Yue sobbed excitedly, tears streaming down his face.

He Lang’s outstretched hand paused in midair, unable to move forward.

He watched the person shrinking and crying in front of him, feeling waves of intense pain in his heart as if he were being tortured.

Was the person in his dream staring at him with eyes full of hatred? Were they using cruel words to hurt him?

Thinking back to how he had ruthlessly strangled Lu Yue when he was not in his right mind, He Lang felt miserable and wanted to kill himself.

How could he treat someone who loved him deeply like this? Why couldn’t he try to believe him?

He Lang’s eyes reddened, and his hands gripping the edge of the bed as he struggled to breathe. Regret and self-blame filled his heart.

He wanted to tell him that he didn’t die, that he was alive. But he was afraid that Lu Yue would look at him with disappointment and resentment after knowing the truth.

If he knew that he had been hiding beside him all this time, hating him, mocking him, what kind of look would he give him?

Just the thought of it made He Lang feel unbearable pain in his heart.

Unable to bear Lu Yue’s cold gaze, he decided to stay by his side as Zhou He. He would protect him well and prevent him from being harmed again.
