“Ouch!” The hunter suddenly reacted as the old matron finally could not help herself from slapping him at the back of his head.
“Hey, you should calm down, Mother Mathron!
We really did not mean anything bad!
We really just thought that our mother, Mathron, was gentle and kind, very unlike an adventurer in our imagination.
“What, you think an adventurer should be rough and look tough?! Ha!” The old matron said mockingly.
“It does not matter what a person looks like, whether a boy or a girl, old or young, noble or not! As long as you can get a falna and register in the adventurers’ guild, then you are an adventurer! Tough-looking adventurers might not be few, but there are many more of other kinds of people! There are even mages and elves who look even cleaner and more elegant than those arrogant nobles! ”
“Yes, yes, yes…” The hunter just agreed regardless while shrinking his neck a bit as a subconscious action.
‘This guy might have been used to getting scolded like this by the matron back when he lived in the orphanage,’ Silver thought in amusement.
‘Looking back now, it seems that there are only a few people in the orphanage that have not been scolded like this yet.
Thinking about it now, the me before I awakened my memories seems like a quiet and obedient kid that was easily forgotten if not for the inconspicuous hair.
I remember that my task before was looking after the fire in the kitchen when it was time to cook.
It was a simple thing to do, but it needs someone who is not restless and is patient.’
They walked slowly as they talked, but they eventually reached the meat shop, as this town is only so big after all.
“Hey, Old Butch!” The old matron greeted casually, which showed that they were old friends.
“Yo, old lady! How’s it going?!” The one greeting back is an old man wearing an old worn-out apron that still looked quite clean despite having many old unremovable stain marks on it. The source of this chapter is g.com.
“Haven’t seen you here in a long while! Though I have seen your kids running around for some time now. They were helping around, which is good. Some of them had also helped me out here from time to time too.”
“Yeah, I am proud of them for that; they are all good kids,” the old matron said with a proud smile.
“Yo, old man butch, I am here too!” The hunter greeted as he put down his basket and put the roe deer into an empty space in the long table of the storefront, then he opened his basket to take out his haul one by one, which were a few pheasants and rabbits.
“Oh, you did not come yesterday and brought out a big one today. So you spent a night in the forest again, huh?” The old butcher said affirmatively as he examined the game.
“So what do you want?”
“Just the usual; you take all the rabbits and leave one pheasant for me to take home,” the hunter said with furrowed brows as he was thinking.
“As for the roe deer… Hmm… Leave me the back thighs and legs and the bones too. Just handle the furs and hide like always. Just give me my part when I come back again.”
“Oh! Got it!” The old butcher said as he took the things inside the shop.
“What about you, old lady? What do you have?”
“Go on, kid. Show them what we caught,” the old matron urged Silver with a grin.
“Okay,” Silver nodded as he put down the basket on his back and took out their catch.
“Two pheasants and a rabbit?” the old butcher said nonchalantly as he thought it was nothing special.
“So… Which one was caught by the kid, Mother Mathron?” The hunter asked curiously as he was about to check these three carcasses.
“Not a headshot?” The old butcher mumbled in a puzzled tone as to why this old lady was specifically mentioning a headshot, so he quickly got to examining the catch.
“Wait! You said yours were not the head shot?! Don’t tell me…! This kid did these two head shots! This wound seems to be from a slingshot.”
“Eh?! Eh?! What?! Head shot, you say?!” The hunter exclaimed as he too quickly examined the catch.
“That’s right! It was this kid, Silver, who did it!” The old matron proudly said with a grin.
“That’s why I was asking you to teach this kid archery. Because he really does have a talent for this.”
Then the mathron started bragging about Silver hitting a headshot the first time he tried it and about him getting another headshot in one shot again but from a distance of more or less a dozen meters away.
“Well, this kid does have talent, alright. But I think it would be a bit unfair to this hunter kid, you know…” The old butcher said with a knowing look.
“Nah, it’s okay! Mother Mathron said that this kid is going to be an adventurer. She was even teaching him how to fight with a sword, you know!” The hunter said proudly with a bit of bragging.
“Oh! He is quite smart then, unlike those other reckless kids running to Orario without preparing,” the old butcher said with a nod.
“Wait! You also know that Mother Mathron was an adventurer before?!” The hunter exclaimed as he stared wide-eyed at the old butcher.
“Well, don’t you? I seem to have heard before that your mathron was always telling stories about her adventuring days at the orphanage,” the old butcher said with a puzzled look.
“You couldn’t have thought that she was just bragging, right? I was still quite young when I saw your old matron come back home from Orario. She really got that strong and dangerous aura with her before.”
“Now you know, I was not bragging at all,” the old matron said with an annoyed snort.
