“Now, I’ve decided!
It will be mandatory for everyone to practice some basic melee weapons and train their body with me every weekend!
Just so those brats don’t just think that I was bragging!
“The old matron said with an annoyed look.
“Oh, I think that is actually good. Those kids can at least learn how to defend themselves,” the old butcher said nonchalantly as he checked the catch more carefully.
“Wait… You haven’t gutted this thing yet!”
The butcher quickly took those three carcasses to gut.
“Yeah, I almost forgot about that!” The old matron said with a palm on her forehead.
“Wait, you have to teach this kid how to do it!”
“No need, Mother Mathron. Gutting in the wild is different than here in the safety,” the hunter butted in quickly, and then he explained.
“We don’t have a proper container, so when we gut in the wild, we just gut everything out and throw it away. The butcher’s way is more meticulous, but it takes time, and it needs to be properly stored quickly.”
“That’s right!” The old butcher said in agreement.
“That is why livestock are more profitable than game, of course, other than the taste.”
“So that’s the case,” the old matron said with a nod while Silver was also nodding in understanding on the side.
The old butcher quickly gutted everything and then started butchering everything.
He did everything quickly as the other three watched while thinking about things.
“Here you go,” the old butcher called out as he brought them the butchered meat.
“Why didn’t you clean up your baskets while I was busy!”
“There is something else on it. Remember?” The hunter said with an amused look.
“Oh, right!” The old butcher finally remembered.
Hunters don’t only take meat from the forest; they also take wild vegetables, herbs, and other things.
The old matron and Silver also harvested some wild vegetables and some fruits and nuts.
Then the butcher quickly took out a cloth sack; he put the two roe deer back thighs and a butchered pheasant into one sack, and then the rabbit plus two pheasants were put into another.
“You want to take care of the rabbit hide yourself, or do I do it?” The old butcher asked the old matron with a side glance as he held out the two cloth sacks.
“You do it! I trust you,” the old matron said as she took the sack and put it into their basket before turning towards Silver.
“Just let this old man take care of it the next time you come here, kid. He will never shortchange you, or I will beat him into a pig’s face.”
“Hey, hey, hey! Don’t accuse me of anything! I have a very good reputation! Everyone here in our town trusts me very much, okay?!” The old butcher quickly said as he heard that.
“Yeah, the old butcher is trustworthy. I never heard of him cheating anyone,” the hunter added on the side.
“I was just saying! You don’t need to overreact so much!” The old matron retorted with amusement.
“Hey, you just scared me. I really thought you would just suddenly beat these old bones of mine,” the old butcher jokingly said while patting his own shoulder.
“Right, kid, just call me Old Butch because everyone calls me that: Butch from butcher, because I am; old because I am old.”
“Oh, right!” The hunter suddenly said.
“Wait for me at the town entrance in the direction of the forest tomorrow morning, or I will wait for you. You can’t use my bow because you shouldn’t have enough strength to pull it back yet. Thankfully, I still have the one I used before when I was still an apprentice. I will bring it tomorrow. We will directly start practicing in the forest by shooting at prey.”
“Yes, I understand, mister,” Silver agreed politely with a nod.
“Just call me big brother; ‘Mister’ feels old. I am not that old,” the hunter said jokingly.
“Okay, brother hunter,” Silver responded jokingly.
“Alright, let’s go home. There is still some time. You can still do a few sets of swords and train your body,” the old matron said while beckoning with her hand. This chapter is updated first at novelping.com.
“Yes, Mother Mathron,” Silver responded in agreement as he really felt like he could not neglect his sword practice and body training.
Now that he has gotten some gains from practicing and training, he is also starting to get addicted to it, as there is no good entertainment in this world.
He is also starting to understand those people who are addicted to going to the gym in his previous life.
The feeling of growing stronger every day is really good.
– At the library –
Silver had just gotten here after having lunch.
“So how was it?” Old Sax suddenly asked with a side glance from his desk.
“How was what?” Silver asked back in confusion.
“Did you not go into the forest today?” Old Sax asked again with squinting eyes.
“Oh! I did! Mother Mathron came too; she taught me many things,” Silver said as he continued reading the compendium.
This time he also had a sea edition one on the side.
“So how was it?!” Old Sax asked again with impatience.
“How was what?!” Silver asked back in annoyance as he really could not concentrate on reading when he was being asked like this again and again.
“The trap! I was talking about the trap I taught you yesterday, you brat!” Old Sax said loudly in annoyance.
“Oh!” Silver reacted, then got back to reading, trying to brush the topic aside.
“What, oh?!” Old Sax shouted as he really got annoyed from impatience.
“Tell me! Come on!”
“Well… Oh…” Silver mumbled as he tried thinking of a topic to brush this one aside, or more like throw it away.
“Right, Mother Mathron thought I had talent in long-range weapons, so she asked the hunter to teach me how to use a bow and arrow. The hunter might also teach me how to hunt while we are at it tomorrow morning in the forest.”
