The morning dew and the sea breeze tangle with each other as people wake and are busy about.

With a refreshed look just coming out of the bath after a morning run, Silver got to the front yard of the orphanage, where he saw the matron waiting there already with various sticks on the side.

“You’re finally here!” The old matron said with energy.Full novel: DANMACHI FF — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

“I thought you were just caught in the excitement yesterday.

Good!

I have been looking forward to finally teaching someone what I know, but the kids before all don’t have any intention of learning from me.

“Sorry for the wait, Mother Mathron. I just did a round of running earlier, and then I took a bath,” Silver politely explained, and then he held out what he was holding in hand.

“I also bought some bread for breakfast because I wake up too early. You eat some too, Mother Mathron.”

“Oh! You are so thoughtful, kid. I’ll help myself then,” the old matron said as she grabbed the bread and ate it in a few bites, which must come from experience.

“What? Surprised by my fast eating skill?”

Silver nodded while surprised.

After all, that bread is big.

And it was hard too because of the low-tech condition.

Fortunately good flour is available, so it wasn’t a black bread.

Because the gods came down here in the mortal realm to enjoy themselves, anything inconvenient must be solved.

Like toilets and toiletries.

So the technology in this world is too skewed.

“Is it a skill that adventurers learn too?!” Silver asked with a bewildered look.

“Nah, it was just a special skill I developed because I was always in a hurry when I was an adventurer, so I was forced to eat this way. In fact, this special skill is very useful for foods like fried potato balls or dried jerkies,” the old mathrong explained quickly before taking a stick from the ground and swinging it a few times.

“Come on! Get a stick! Try what feels comfortable to swing around.”

“Erhmm… Okay,” Silver responded with a slight helplessness as he was puzzled.

He tried a few and swung many times before settling with something that is as long as his arm.

It wasn’t thick, and the overall thickness from one end to another is all relatively even.

It is not like a club, just a stick.

“Oh! So you are comfortable with swords then,” the matron commented from the side.

Then she collected the other sticks and brought them back to that pile of firewood nearby.

Other kids wanted to join their practice too, actually. New chapters come out on g.com first.

But they don’t aspire to get into the school district, so they don’t have the exception.

They can only join on weekends.

As for the concept of weekend rest, of course it came from the gods too.

Doing jobs and experiencing various hardship is something they wanted to experience, but they also wanted rest, so weekends came to be.

Various holidays were their thing too.

Depending on which God and which pantheon, they would all have different holidays.

“What do you mean about the sword, Mother Mathron?” Silver asked with curiosity and thoughtfulness while still swinging and fiddling with his stick.

“Isn’t this just a stick?”

“Of course this stick picking is not just about picking a stick, you kid!” the matron snapped with amusement.

“You think I just let you pick different kinds of sticks?

Not so!

There is a reason why these sticks are quite different from each other; not one has the exact same shape or dimensions.

I specifically chose each one of them.

The longest one with even thickness from one end to another represents spears.

Most spears follow a very balanced structure.

It can also represent a very long sword or saber.

It depended on how you instinctively held it when you swung or thrusted.

The one with a slightly shorter length than what you hold is a short sword, while the other one that is thick on one end can be a mace, a hammer, or a hand axe.

Those with the same length as yours but with one thick end are two-handed maces, hammers, or axes.

Then there is one for daggers, big axes, halberds, or plain old pole sticks.

It’s all just melee weapons.

We don’t have anything for shields, so we will have to ask the blacksmith or a woodworker to make it.

Don’t reject learning about shields because any adventurer should at least know the basics on how to use them.

Shields are good; they can save your life.”

“So, that’s the case!” Silver said as he nodded in understanding.

“That’s right!” the matron said energetically with excitement.

Well, I heard from one of my teammates about the terms “knives” and “sabers,” but they’re all called “swords” here and in Orario anyway.

Also!

You might not know, but this is actually a unique method that I have thought of by myself!

Hahaha!

I have been thinking about how to train newbies starting from when I got back here and retired.

I am not like old Sax after all.

I never had any savings.

I go every day to the dungeon even when I am alone.

So I bought anything that can make me survive longer.

I did not give up trying to get stronger up until just before I retired.

I am actually so much older than old Sax.

As for why I only looked as old as he does?

It’s because I reached level 2.

Leveling up is not just about getting stronger.

It is a sublimation of the whole essence.

An elevation of everything about you.

I did not manage to reach level 3 because I was too impatient and impulsive back then.

You should already be informed by old Sax about Falna, right?

To level up, one just needs to reach 500 in one stat and have a great feat.

And that’s what I did before!

That’s where my impossible problem came!

Stats are what you rely on to get a great feat, but what would happen if you don’t have enough?

Yeah, I could never accomplish a great feat at level 2 to level up because I was too weak.”
