The blacksmith girl had immense strength, and her hammering made the table rattle.
But seeing her pouty expression—as if she were a wife who had just caught her husband running off with someone else—Xia Jia didn’t know what to make of it.
“I was here first!
If anyone is joining the Familia, it has to be me first!” Cecile declared her demands.
Cecile, who had originally strived to become the greatest blacksmith, had finally relented the moment her competitor, Xia Jia, appeared after two years of Astraea’s persistent persuasion.
She had long since been conquered by Astraea’s character and was willing to work hard for the Goddess’s wishes, even if “justice” had nothing to do with her as a blacksmith.
Astraea hadn’t expected Xia Jia’s appearance to cause such a change in Cecile, so she clasped her hands and smiled:
“That’s wonderful.
Then, how about you and this…”
“Xia Jia.”
“…and Xia-chan join together, starting today.”
The Goddess’s smile was enchanting, slowly blossoming like a flower in spring.
As expected of a goddess…
so beautiful!
However, the girl still stood with her hands on her hips, turning her head away from Xia Jia while muttering to herself: “I was here first, whether it’s about being invited or taking care of Astraea-sama!”
So?
Xia Jia was confused.
“So, the Captain of the new-generation Astraea Familia must be me!
Do you understand?!” Cecile suddenly leaned down, waving a finger in front of Xia Jia’s face.
But aren’t you a blacksmith…
Xia Jia didn’t understand the girl’s obsession, but he didn’t care much about being the captain or not; it was just a title.
So, he readily held out his hand: “Deal.”
…
A short while later.
In the back room of the shop, Cecile walked out with a face full of pride, holding her head high:
“It’s your turn.”
“You seem to be in a good mood,” Xia Jia asked.
“Awaken a good skill?”
“Heh heh, it’s a secret!
Remember, from now on, call me Captain!” Cecile said triumphantly.
“Yeah, yeah.
I’m going in now.”
Interrupting the smug little girl’s self-satisfaction, Xia Jia pushed open the door and entered.
Astraea was already sitting by the window, gently patting the bedsheet: “Strip.”
You sound like a wife guiding her husband to the bridal chamber…
Knowing this was necessary to drip divine blood onto his back, Xia Jia didn’t object: “Ahem.
Alright.”
After he took off his shirt and lay on the bed, Astraea asked slowly, as if by chance:
“Although you applied to join citing ‘Starlight’ as your reason—and I know your true intent—there is still one question I would like to know.”
“What is it?” Xia Jia looked up, meeting Astraea’s eyes.
“To you, what is ‘Justice’?”
Before engraving the wings of justice and order, Astraea still wanted to know this child’s thoughts, even if his ideal was the “Starlight.”
Xia Jia fell silent, hesitating for a long time.
Finally, he seemed to deflate and buried his head in the pillow, muttering in a muffled voice:
“I don’t know.
The concept of justice is different for everyone, right?
To be honest, I’ve never really thought about this question.”
As an “ordinary” high school student, the “evil” that existed in his life was minimal, so naturally, the “justice” that stood against it wasn’t much either.
If he really had to name some, it would only be things like school bullying.
For example…
In elementary school, he had once taken down boys who were teasing Shouko Nishimiya, pulled Menma out of the river when she accidentally fell in, and kept in contact with Yuuki Konno after she was forced to drop out of school when her “incomplete immune system disease” was exposed…
But…
This isn’t justice in the universal sense!
“For me…
a Harem!
That is a man’s justice!
I want everyone to become my wings and live happily together!”
With his head buried under the covers, Xia Jia’s tone was firm, as if he had just given up on trying to act cool.
The tips of his ears, exposed to the air, turned slightly red, as if dying memories were attacking him.
Yes, elementary school Xia Jia had been obsessed with harem fantasies, attempting to capture the hearts of every girl he met.
But now…
He felt like a maggot whose “chuunibyou” history had been exposed; Xia Jia squirmed in embarrassment.
So shameful, so shameful, so shameful!
However, it wasn’t the first time; in front of a god, social death was probably the norm.
Soon, Xia Jia calmed down.
He peeked out from under the pillow to look at Astraea’s expression, and what met his eyes was a gentle smile.
“Justice…
it is as numerous as the stars in the sky. This chapter was copied from g.com without permission.
Once, there was a child who said that beauty is justice, too.
A harem…
although it’s not very serious, I’ll barely let it pass.”
In the Goddess’s heart, Xia Jia’s image overlapped with her late Captain.
If that child had been a boy, perhaps she would have sought a “harem,” too.
No, she probably would have finished it already.
“Hey, Xia-chan, did you choose me because you also thought of me as a target to be ‘conquered’?”
Suddenly, Astraea teased him as she stroked Xia Jia’s head.
After getting a blushing, red-faced reaction from Xia Jia, she acted like she had obtained a precious treasure and slowly dripped her divine blood onto Xia Jia’s back.
White light bloomed, and the “Falna,” composed of divine runes, was engraved by the Goddess.
This was a process of manifesting physical stats, giving the host the ability to break through their physical and spiritual limitations and sublimate their “vessel”—this is the [Divine Falna].
Compared to other abilities in the multiverse, this improvement was slow, but…
This was an improvement in “potential”—in the world of Xianxia, it would be the remodeling of one’s spiritual roots or bone structure.
In the parlance of the DanMachi world, it means that during the process of leveling up, humans are infinitely approaching the gods.
Undoubtedly, the gods of the DanMachi world, while “weak,” have lifespans lasting hundreds of millions of years.
For Xia Jia’s wish of a “Harem,” this was more than enough.
As the Goddess covered his back with parchment, the “ability values” engraved by the divine runes were translated into common text and handed to Xia Jia.
Looking at the complex, variant English in front of him, Xia Jia thought to himself that it would have been better if she had just given him the divine runes—at least that was a dialect of the Flame Empire.
After a while, Xia Jia finished translating his stats.
