999 could no longer hear what Lin Zhaoyang was thinking in his mind, but it could certainly hear whatever the other spoke out loud.

In reality, normal players only started with steamed buns, and mineral water was not an item sold at Level 1. However, otherworldly visitors like Lin Zhaoyang possessed no physical shell, no home, and certainly no money.

They could not be allowed to pay-to-win simply because they failed a task, nor could they be allowed to die and restart because of a survival failure. Therefore, the system simply had to open the backdoor for them, making their survival difficulty much lower than that of normal players.Full novel: Dead at the Beginning: Bound to a Survival System After Death — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

Lin Zhaoyang opened the game interface once again and immediately spotted where the quests were, mainly because their descriptions were far too attention-seeking.

Quest (If you need points, please click on me! Although I am not your only one, but definitely your top choice!)

Main Quest: House Repair (The house is your most crucial shelter in the early stages. A house with holes must be causing you a lot of trouble, right? No worries! You only need to use a wooden axe to chop 30 pieces of wood, and we will help you repair your house! Isn’t that super simple? You can also earn 300 points!)

Side Quest: Purchase a Workbench (A versatile workbench that can craft many things.)

Side Quest: Craft a Wooden Axe (Only 10 branches plus 10 points are needed to obtain a wooden axe with a durability of 5.)

“Why does this sound exactly like 999? Could 999 be the one who issued these quests?”

As Lin Zhaoyang looked at these words, he felt as though 999’s voice was automatically ringing in his ears.

Taking the physical form of a six-year-old boy, 999 covered his mouth with his small hands. He desperately wanted to retort, but players were not allowed to randomly chime in unless they called out to him.

Daily Quest: Weeding (Just pull out 10 useless weeds to get 20 points.)

Daily Quest: Gather Berries (You can obtain 10 berries daily, you only need to give me 5 of them to get 10 points…)

Daily Quest: Sunbathing (Wouldn’t it be a waste not to soak in such wonderful sunshine? Bask in the sun for a full ten minutes to get 10 points.) Completed

Lin Zhaoyang claimed the rewards for the completed quest and set out to tackle the other two daily quests. In truth, he felt the quest rewards were a bit low, considering that a single bottle of mineral water already cost 10 points.

Lin Zhaoyang located the berry bushes. With his shockingly low stamina, it was all he could do just to reach the bushes, harvest 10 fruits, and then rest right on the spot due to his completely depleted energy.

“999, I am not going to stay this weak forever, right?”

Lin Zhaoyang squatted on the spot with his arms wrapped around his knees, a dazed look in his eyes. Did anyone in their right mind call this condition healthy?

[No way! With proper exercise and good money-making, your physical fitness will definitely increase by leaps and bounds!]

Hearing the call, 999 immediately responded. Worried that Lin Zhaoyang would not adjust well, he had been staring intently at the situation, leaving him with no time yet to arrange matters regarding the user’s adoptive parents.

“999, when will I be able to see videos of my adoptive parents?”

At that moment, Lin Zhaoyang had no desire to hear about exercising or improving his stamina. He had entered the game thinking he finally had a healthy body, and that the game was fresh and novel, which was why he had taken some interest in it.

However, as his stamina drained and a wave of overwhelming fatigue washed over him, he suddenly missed his adoptive parents. He felt so exhausted and wanted to go home, even though he no longer had one.

[That will take a little time, probably half a month. Rest assured, I will make it as fast as possible.]

Inside the system space, 999 stood up straight, patting his chest with his tiny hand to offer a guarantee, though Lin Zhaoyang could only hear his voice.

Right after giving his promise, he hurriedly began contacting another department’s system; just in case he actually forgot, he did not want to become an untrustworthy system.

“Alright, thank you.”

Even though Lin Zhaoyang’s mood was a bit low, he still politely thanked 999, despite his excessive politeness being no different from keeping a distance.

[You are welcome, hehehe.]

Well, 999 did not sense any distance at all, and he even felt that this was Lin Zhaoyang’s affirmation of him.

After resting for a little while, Lin Zhaoyang continued with the weeding quest. Given his stamina, pulling weeds took even more time. He would pull for a bit and then rest; 10 miserable weeds took him a full half-hour.

“I did not really do anything, yet I have genuinely worn myself out.”

“If I had known, I would not have left the water inside the wooden cabin.”

Lin Zhaoyang leaned against a tree to rest, panting as he spoke while his gaze casually swept over the surrounding environment.

His wooden cabin stood right in the middle of an open space, surrounded by a modest amount of plants and trees. Far off in the four corners lay patches of fog, which Lin Zhaoyang assumed were areas players needed to explore.

Lin Zhaoyang swiped open the game interface to check the time. It was 10 o’clock. Merely completing three daily quests had taken three hours, and one of the quests had not even required him to move, as it was simply because he had stayed under the sun for too long.

“I was not this frail in the past, was I?”

In the past, due to his poor physical condition, Lin Zhaoyang rarely did any heavy physical labor, but he still would not have lacked stamina to the point of needing to stand and rest in the sun for a few minutes just to walk back from the woods to the cabin.

He possessed a healthy body, yet he felt like a male version of Lin Daiyu. The sunshine was so lovely, yet he was practically on the verge of suffering a heatstroke.

Walking back into the wooden cabin, Lin Zhaoyang with trembling hands opened the bottle of mineral water and gulped down half of it.

“And here I thought a single bottle of water would at least last me through the day.”

Looking at the half-empty bottle of mineral water in his hand, Lin Zhaoyang sighed, then bought a steamed bun from the mall and started eating his lunch ahead of time.
