5 – Social Media as Poor as a Church Mouse
Shi Yuan only felt her ears growing warm again.
She pulled the man’s hand away and shifted slightly to the side.
Just as she steadied herself,
she turned to see Shi Luo holding a spoon, his eyes sparkling as he gazed at her.
He seemed so captivated that he hadn’t even noticed the egg custard smeared around his mouth.
Shi Yuan sighed helplessly, grabbed a tissue, and wiped his mouth.
“Eat properly. Later, I’ll take you to kindergarten.”
As she spoke, she pushed the fruit plate closer to the little cub.
Jiang Yu watched Shi Yuan’s actions with slight confusion but said nothing.
He set down his chopsticks, wiped his lips, and said softly, “I won’t interfere with your freedom, and likewise, I hope you won’t disturb me. Can you manage that?”
Shi Yuan paused mid-bite of her steamed bun, then nodded. “Don’t worry. Unless it’s absolutely unavoidable, I won’t bother you.”
Jiang Yu glanced up at her. “Such as?”
Shi Yuan put on a serious face. “Such as earthquakes or cataclysms.”
Jiang Yu raised an eyebrow, a faint, amused smile tugging at his lips.
“I hope you can keep that promise.”
With those words, he left the table and headed upstairs.
Shi Yuan shrugged, helped Zai Zai finish his breakfast, then picked up his small backpack to take him to kindergarten.
Shi Luo lifted his round, bun-like face, looking curiously at Shi Yuan.
He couldn’t quite understand why Shi Yuan was being so nice to him today—not only feeding him but also offering to take him to kindergarten.
He glanced at his hand clasped in Shi Yuan’s, pursed his little mouth,
and finally gripped her hand back.
He followed her out the door.
Initially, Shi Yuan had planned to take Zai Zai to kindergarten by herself.
But when the driver mentioned that the nearest bus stop was a twenty-minute walk away, she promptly abandoned the idea.
After all, nothing is impossible for those who give up easily.
She got into the car arranged by the Jiang family and took young Shi Luo to kindergarten.
After successfully delivering the little cub to kindergarten, Shi Yuan headed to a nearby mall to buy him some new clothes.
But when she checked her bank balance, she immediately scrapped her plan to visit high-end children’s boutiques.
“Ones, tens, hundreds, thousands…”
Was she really down to just two thousand yuan now?
Although the original host had signed a contract with Jiang Yu, the thirty million wouldn’t be transferred until they had been ‘married’ for a year.
So, even though she’d have thirty million in a year, for now, she was flat broke.
Shi Yuan narrowed her eyes.
“Looks like I’ll have to find work.”
With no other choice, Shi Yuan changed direction and went to an affordable children’s clothing store upstairs. She picked out two sets of clothes made from good fabric, both cute and stylish in design.
After buying the clothes, broke Shi Yuan wandered into a random café, ordered a cheap coffee, and started scrolling through her phone.
The original host was a minor celebrity with over ten times more anti-fans than actual fans.
Her usual activities consisted of shopping and having fun.
Shi Yuan had guessed she wouldn’t have many friends, but she hadn’t expected her social circle to be this barren.
It was so barren it could practically be described as destitute!
That massive green social app held only five contacts!
Aside from the original host’s agent and a fellow artist from the same company—added but never spoken to—the only remaining contact was the cheap husband she’d added just yesterday…Shi Yuan silently closed WeChat and opened Weibo. The page loaded quickly, but it was immediately followed by a series of notification sounds.
