God-Tier Teammate!
15: Chapter 15: Minions Almost Extinct; Bad Teammate?
God-Tier Teammate!
The Evil Spirit Wendigo was now nearly four times the size of an ordinary Wendigo.
The five ordinary Wendigos were practically toys in front of it; a single misstep meant getting caught and meeting the same end as the first one.
To Dan Lee, it felt like a scene straight out of *Resident Evil*—a Licker fighting a Stage 2 Zombie Tyrant.
Juno was ruthless too.
Taking advantage of the Evil Spirit Wendigo being distracted by Dan Lee’s minions, she sprinted forward, executed a slide beneath the monster, and jammed her tri-dagger viciously into its kidney area.
The tip of the military dagger plunged smoothly into the Evil Spirit Wendigo’s flesh.
However, before it could penetrate deep, Juno felt an intense resistance.
No matter how hard she shoved, the dagger wouldn’t go any further.
The Evil Spirit Wendigo’s massive foot was already stomping down toward her.
Juno flipped over and scrambled away on all fours.
From a distance, Beth and Rebecca fired their guns in support.
The Eldest Mutant charged at the Evil Spirit Wendigo with a machete, roaring loudly, but he was sent flying backward at an even faster speed.
Although Juno and the others had no idea where these two hideous individuals had come from, anyone hostile toward this monster was an ally.
In that split second, the Evil Spirit Wendigo reached behind its back and snatched another ordinary Wendigo in a one-handed grip.
Despite the creature’s frantic thrashing, it couldn’t escape a gruesome fate.
The Evil Spirit Wendigo slammed it violently onto the ground, instantly turning the ordinary Wendigo into a pile of mangled flesh.
Another contained creature was dead, leaving only four to keep it occupied.
The Evil Spirit Wendigo could afford countless mistakes, but Dan Lee’s side would lose their lives if they slipped up even once.
Breaching its defense from the outside was impossible; they had to find a way from the inside.
Dan Lee still had a high-explosive grenade stashed away—a weapon that had cost him a fortune and a previous trade with Pete to acquire.
But how could he get the Evil Spirit Wendigo to swallow it?
After all, the creature didn’t look like an unthinking monster with degraded intelligence.
Well, it had some intelligence, but not much.
*Bam.* Another Wendigo died as the Evil Spirit Wendigo bit off half its head, leaving only a headless body behind.
If he hesitated any longer, they really would be meeting God—or Satan.
“Juno, run!
Change locations, it’s too open here!” Dan Lee yelled, turning on his heel to sprint away.
The two Mutants, along with Beth and Rebecca, immediately followed suit.
Preferring life over death, Juno hurried to keep up with Dan Lee.
As she rounded a corner, she cast a glance behind her.
The monster finished off the smaller creature like a light snack.
Its blood-red eyes then locked onto Juno, and it scrambled onto the cavern wall, skittering toward her like a giant spider.
Juno ran even faster, wishing she had more legs.
She didn’t breathe a sigh of relief until she caught up to Dan Lee.
The group navigated the underground tunnels, squeezing into whichever passageways were narrowest.
Bringing up the rear, Juno kept checking behind her, terrified that the monster would suddenly burst out of the dark tunnels and grab her feet…
Just the thought brought out a cold sweat on her back.
As everyone knew, the thing a person least wanted to happen usually ended up happening.
As if to validate Juno’s sixth sense, a human head suddenly poked out of the darkness.
It was Sarah!
Juno was startled, but a moment later, a monster’s head appeared behind the human head, clamping its jaws right down onto Sarah’s skull.
This time, Juno broke down in tears of terror, scrambling upward while screaming out Beth’s and the others’ names.
Dan Lee, who had been leading the way at a measured pace, picked up his speed.
Hearing Juno’s screams, he knew the fish had taken the bait—this was the only desperate tactic he could come up with.
Climbing up out of the shaft, he reached down to pull Beth and Rebecca up, telling them to back away.
Ten seconds later.
Juno appeared in Dan Lee’s line of sight.
In utter panic, she had lost all the arrogance of her initial leadership.
Blood and grime smeared around her eyes, which burned with a desperate craving to survive.
Dan Lee lent her a hand.
Less than three seconds after Juno clambered up, the Evil Spirit Wendigo appeared right behind her.
Seeing the Evil Spirit Wendigo about to crawl out, one of the Mutants leaped down and jammed his body into the opening, wedging himself tight.
The consequence of doing so was that the Mutant had to face the frenzied Evil Spirit Wendigo directly; fangs instantly sank into the Mutant’s shoulder, tearing off a huge chunk of flesh to devour.
The scene was sickening and horrifying.
Vampires drinking blood seemed elegant compared to this.
The Mutant wouldn’t last long.
Once he was devoured and the Evil Spirit Wendigo broke free, it would be the end for all of them.
Dan Lee emptied a magazine from his rifle into the monster, but seeing that it had little effect, he discarded the rifle and pulled out the high-explosive grenade.
It wasn’t that he didn’t want to throw it directly into the Evil Spirit Wendigo’s mouth, but because he had built up so much aggro earlier, he was its primary target, and he only had one shot at this…
“We have to get it to open its mouth!
Otherwise, once it gets out, every single one of us is dead!” Juno grabbed a rock and slammed it frantically into the beast.
But if bullets couldn’t pierce its hide, what good was a rock?
Hearing this, Beth fumbled nervously through the only small bag they had and pulled out a flare.
After the Second Mutant ran out of arrows, Dan Lee had merged with his Ghost Card, multiplying his strength several times over, but it clearly wasn’t enough to solve their current crisis.
Nearly all eight of his minions were dead, and the Eldest Mutant was on his last legs.
The Evil Spirit Wendigo had already eaten up to the neck.
The Mutant’s head hung off to the side; he wasn’t dead yet, but he was close.
Dan Lee didn’t dare gamble on whether an external grenade blast could kill the Evil Spirit Wendigo; breaking its guard and killing it were two completely different things.
Beth sat off to the side and struck the red flare, staring blankly as if waiting for death to claim them.
Juno kept smashing with her rock relentlessly—it was all she could do right now.
She wanted to avenge Sarah; she wanted to escape this nightmare.
Lost in thought, Juno dazed out for a second, vaguely hearing someone calling her name.
“Juno!” Snapping back to reality at the shouts of Rebecca and Beth, Juno realized her right foot had been grabbed by the Evil Spirit Wendigo and was being dragged backward.
Only then did she see that half of the Mutant’s torso was already gone!
Dan Lee was utterly speechless.
How could a terrible teammate pick *now* of all times to space out?
Talk about delivering a free snack!
American horror movies really didn’t lie!
Dan Lee wanted to save her, but he honestly had no idea how.
He pulled out the high-explosive grenade, briefly entertaining the thought of saving her, though he leaned heavily toward letting her go…
“Quick, Dan!
Give me the grenade!” Juno suddenly screamed.
Dragged on her stomach across the ground, she looked up at Dan Lee with her last ounce of strength, her eyes pleading.
Hesitating for a fraction of a second, Dan Lee tossed the grenade to her, then turned and bolted out of the blast radius without looking back.
Beth and Rebecca snapped out of it and rushed out right behind Dan Lee.
Juno caught the grenade and pulled the pin.
As she was dragged right in front of the Evil Spirit Wendigo, smelling its foul breath and staring into its bloody, fanged mouth, her eyes held relief and regret—but not a single trace of fear.
“Come on, you son of a bitch!” In her final moment, Juno flipped off the Evil Spirit Wendigo.
The instant the monster opened its maw, she shoved her arm deep into its mouth, gripping the grenade tight.
With a single bite, half of Juno’s body vanished.
A terrible teammate?
With her death, Juno proved what it truly meant to be a god-tier teammate!
