He Yanzhou spoke bluntly. “With your looks, you could make a huge name for yourself in the entertainment industry.”
“Me?” Wen Yusui clearly didn’t believe him. She had heard that the entertainment industry was a complicated place. She would probably end up making a complete mess of herself rather than thriving.
He Yanzhou didn’t force her. He simply handed her a business card. It read: Haiyu Media — He Yanzhou.
“With me here, I’ll definitely make you the biggest star in the entertainment industry!” He Yanzhou looked completely serious. “By then, you won’t have to live here anymore.”
Wen Yusui had genuinely never considered becoming an actress.
However, hearing He Yanzhou say it like that, she found the idea somewhat interesting. She was looking for a job anyway, so she might as well give it a try.
“He Yanzhou, let me make one thing clear in advance. I don’t know how to do anything!”
Wen Yusui was straightforward.
He Yanzhou smiled.
“I’ll take care of everything. Don’t worry! I’ll come pick you up tomorrow.”
“Okay.”
Only after Wen Yusui went upstairs did He Yanzhou drive away.
All in all, today had been quite fulfilling.
At the very least, she had humiliated Gu Huaichuan and successfully found herself a job.
The next morning, He Yanzhou appeared downstairs early.
Wen Yusui had dressed herself simply.
As he watched her walk toward him step by step, a trace of delight flashed through He Yanzhou’s eyes. However, he didn’t show it. Instead, he maintained his usual calm and composed expression.
He Yanzhou told her that they would first need to go to the company to sign her contract. After that, she would undergo intensive training. Only after completing the training could she try out for some minor roles.
Wen Yusui felt somewhat nervous throughout the journey.
It wasn’t just because she was about to become an actress. More importantly, this was her first time going to work.
Soon, they arrived at the Haiyu Media building.
People came and went everywhere. The corridors were plastered with posters of various celebrities, along with notices about different film and television productions.
He Yanzhou led her through the building with ease. Along the way, quite a few people looked her up and down.
She did her best to ignore their gazes and walked to the contract-signing area.
He Yanzhou told her to read the terms of the contract carefully before deciding whether to sign.
Wen Yusui simply asked in confusion,
“Everyone calls you President He? So… you’re not the president of Haiyu Media, are you?”
He Yanzhou clearly hadn’t expected her to ask that.
He smiled and shook his head.
Seeing him deny it, Wen Yusui breathed a sigh of relief.
She decisively picked up the pen and signed her name.
“You’re not even going to read it?”
He Yanzhou asked.
Wen Yusui shook her head.
“No need. I trust you.”
He Yanzhou froze for a moment.
The staff member waiting beside them asked,
“President He, may I ask which manager you’d like assigned to her?”
“I’ll manage her myself.”
He Yanzhou’s answer was casual.
The staff member was stunned for a moment before blurting out,
“What about Mu Chao?”
He Yanzhou immediately frowned, but still explained,
“I’ve already arranged for someone else to take over his work. You don’t need to worry about that.”
The staff member realized he had overstepped and immediately lowered his head, standing quietly to the side.
“Mu Chao?”
Wen Yusui asked curiously.
He Yanzhou smiled and said softly,
“You’ll meet him eventually.”
Afterward, He Yanzhou took her to a training class.
Many young newcomers were already standing inside.
He stopped at the entrance and gently reminded Wen Yusui,
“This is the training class for newcomers. Everyone has to go through this stage. Just focus on learning here. I’ll take care of everything else.”
Wen Yusui nodded.
She understood that, from here on out, she would still have to rely on herself.
He Yanzhou brought her to the instructor’s office.
Li Qi immediately stood up.
“President He!”
He Yanzhou introduced Wen Yusui first.
“She’s a new artist under my management. Her name is Wen Yusui. I’ll leave her in your care. Please look after her.”
Li Qi looked Wen Yusui up and down, then smiled meaningfully.
“Don’t worry, President He.”
He Yanzhou turned to Wen Yusui.
“Yusui, this is Instructor Li Qi. From today onward, she’ll provide you with comprehensive training. Work hard!”
Wen Yusui stepped forward and greeted her.
“Hello, Instructor Li. I’m Wen Yusui!”
Li Qi smiled and nodded at her.
He Yanzhou then continued,
“Yusui, if you need anything during the training period, give me a call. I’m always available.”
“Okay.”
Once He Yanzhou left, Li Qi immediately wiped the smile from her face.
She looked sternly at Wen Yusui.
“Wen Yusui, right? Let me make one thing clear first! Don’t think that just because President He brought you here, you’ll receive any special treatment! In my eyes, everyone is treated equally!”
Wen Yusui hadn’t expected this instructor to have two completely different faces. The moment her boss left, her attitude had changed so quickly.
Still, she replied,
“Don’t worry, Instructor Li. I’m not looking for any special treatment either.”
Hearing Wen Yusui’s answer, Li Qi merely said coldly,
“Let’s go.”
Once they arrived at the training room, everyone stood in a line.
Li Qi’s gaze was sharp and her expression cold as she spoke loudly.
“Since you’re all able to stand here, that means each of you has something special about you!”
“But now that you’ve entered this training class, none of those special qualities mean anything to me! To be an actor, you need good looks and the ability to endure hardship. More importantly, you need patience and perseverance! Don’t think about taking shortcuts. Without basic training, no matter how beautiful your face is, you won’t be able to carry any role on camera!”
After saying this, Li Qi’s gaze happened to land on Wen Yusui.
Wen Yusui silently wondered to herself:
Was that last part directed specifically at me?
Li Qi quickly shifted her gaze away and continued.
“One last thing. No matter how far you go in this industry, remember this: Learn how to conduct yourself as a person before you learn how to act. The two complement each other. On set, you compete with your acting skills; off set, you compete with your character. All right! For the next week, we’ll start with physical training. Everyone will practice strictly according to the standards.”
After saying this, Li Qi looked at Wen Yusui again and gestured.
“Wen Yusui, come here! You’ll demonstrate for everyone!”
Wen Yusui silently stepped forward and began performing the movements according to Li Qi’s instructions.
“You’re not exactly young anymore, yet your physical coordination is this poor? Start over. Keep going until you meet the standard!”
Li Qi’s criticism was sharp.
Wen Yusui said nothing.
She adjusted her posture over and over again until she was completely exhausted. Only then did Li Qi finally tell her to stop.
“See that? Having good looks without basic skills is completely useless! Come on! Everyone else, start doing this movement!”
At first, Wen Yusui didn’t pay much attention to Li Qi’s behavior. She simply assumed the instructor was trying to put her through a rigorous workout.
But as the training continued, she couldn’t help wondering whether she had somehow offended Li Qi.
Li Qi’s gaze kept landing on Wen Yusui, and she nitpicked almost every one of her movements.
Eventually, Wen Yusui couldn’t take it anymore and sarcastically said,
“Why don’t you demonstrate it yourself, Instructor Li Qi?”
Seeing the defiant look on Wen Yusui’s face, Li Qi decided to show off her skills and demonstrate the movement herself.
Who could have expected that she would suddenly slip, leaving the entire room in an awkward silence?
