After He Yanzhou dropped Wen Yusui off at the dormitory, Lin Yinyin approached her with a meaningful look.
“Wen Jie, you’re finally back!”
Wen Yusui rolled her eyes at her. “You said you had something to do. How come it looks like you have nothing to do?”
“Wen Jie~”
“Shut up.”
As if she hadn’t heard her, Lin Yinyin excitedly said to Wen Yusui, “Wen Jie, guess what? When I came back, I heard that our head extra got fired.”
Hearing this, Wen Yusui only froze for a moment before nodding.
“You’re not surprised?” Lin Yinyin asked in astonishment.
Wen Yusui calmly said, “What’s there to be surprised about? Someone like her getting fired was only a matter of time.”
“Then, Wen Jie, aren’t you curious? She’s been throwing her weight around for so many years, yet she got fired only after offending you. Do you think this was President He’s doing?”
Wen Yusui shook her head. “I don’t know. Whether it was him or not has nothing to do with me.”
Lin Yinyin leaned toward her again, her eyes fixed firmly on Wen Yusui’s face. With a serious expression, she asked, “Wen Jie, haven’t you noticed that President He treats you differently? And don’t tell me it’s because you were college classmates. I don’t believe that.”
Wen Yusui didn’t dodge her earnest gaze. Looking straight into her eyes, she said word by word, “Because he’s my manager now. Is that reason enough to stop you from letting your imagination run wild?”
The moment Lin Yinyin heard this, her eyes lit up.
She exclaimed excitedly, “Oh my God! He Yanzhou said he wouldn’t take on newcomers, but he actually made an exception for you! And you still say there’s nothing special between you two. No way! Then what about my Mu Chao?”
Her excited expression instantly turned conflicted.
Seeing how neurotic Lin Yinyin was acting, Wen Yusui stopped paying attention to her. Right now, she needed sleep more than anything. She had gotten up early and had been exhausted all day.
Lin Yinyin remained lost in her own thoughts, muttering to herself, “That’s Mu Chao we’re talking about! But this is my Wen Jie! Hmm? If the two of them ever got into a fight, who should I help?”
Lin Yinyin never imagined that her offhand remark that day would actually become reality in the future.
While she was struggling over the dilemma, Wen Yusui had already fallen asleep. Lin Yinyin could only quietly leave.
Wen Yusui slept all the way until the next day. If Lin Yinyin hadn’t come to wake her up for work, she probably would have kept sleeping.
As soon as she arrived at the set, the assistant director came looking for her.
“Wen Yusui, why are you only getting here now? I’ve been waiting for you for ages!” His tone sounded reproachful, yet there was an unmistakable hint of excitement hidden beneath it.
“Assistant Director, haven’t I already finished my extra role? Did you need me for something?”
“Of course I do! Yesterday, the director saw the scene where you saved someone. He took a liking to you at first glance! Your sense of camera presence is absolutely perfect!”
The assistant director was quite proud of himself too. He was glad he had discovered such a promising newcomer. Yesterday, the director had praised him so much that he had been moved to tears!
He urged her, “Come on, hurry up and follow me! You’re going to meet the director!”
“Wait!” Lin Yinyin called out, stopping the assistant director in his tracks. “Where are you taking my Wen Jie?”
“To meet the director!” The assistant director looked at Lin Yinyin in confusion.
“The director took a liking to Wen Jie? I remember that director is an old man! What are you trying to do? Wen Jie! You absolutely cannot lose yourself! You can’t go with him!”
Lin Yinyin grabbed Wen Yusui firmly by the arm.
“……”
Both the assistant director and Wen Yusui were stunned by the astonishing leaps in Lin Yinyin’s train of thought.
“Lin Yinyin, can you please stop jumping to such ridiculous conclusions?” Wen Yusui said helplessly.
“This girl certainly has a vivid imagination. It’s a waste that she’s an actress,” the assistant director said with a laugh, giving her the most sincere assessment he could.
Lin Yinyin was still immersed in her own world and hadn’t understood what they meant at all. All she knew was that the entertainment industry was a deep and murky place. She didn’t want the Wen Jie she admired to make one wrong step and regret it for the rest of her life!
“All right. You can come along too.”
Only after hearing the assistant director say this did Lin Yinyin stop trying to interfere, though her hands remained firmly wrapped around Wen Yusui’s arm.
When they arrived on set, the director looked Wen Yusui up and down. Lin Yinyin, meanwhile, stared at him warily, afraid that he might do something inappropriate.
Wen Yusui reminded her in a low voice, “Stop imagining things. It’s daytime, and there are so many people here. He won’t do anything.”
Oh, right! She had been worrying herself for nothing all the way here.
“Wen Jie, you absolutely cannot be alone with him, especially at night. If he asks you to come over to rehearse the script, you must not go! Look at that lecherous look in his eyes. He keeps scanning you from head to toe. If he weren’t the director, I would’ve slapped him by now!”
Wen Yusui hadn’t thought there was anything wrong with the director’s gaze at first. But after Lin Yinyin’s exaggerated description, even she subconsciously began to feel that the director’s eyes were a little strange. He had been staring at her without saying a word, making her increasingly uncomfortable.
So she simply walked straight up to the director and asked, with a hint of impatience in her voice, “Director, are you nearsighted? Can you see clearly now?”
Lin Yinyin was stunned once again.
As expected of Wen Jie. Lin Yinyin only dared to gossip about the director behind his back, while Wen Jie had gone straight up and confronted him to his face!
The assistant director hadn’t expected Wen Yusui to pull something like this either. He hurriedly tried to explain to the director.
“Director, she… this…”
He stammered for a long time but couldn’t come up with a suitable explanation.
Unexpectedly, the director didn’t get angry. Instead, he looked at Wen Yusui approvingly.
“Not bad. You have delicate features, and you’re bold too.”
The assistant director stared at the director in disbelief.
Had the old man drunk too much fake liquor and gone senile?
Normally, whenever an actor in the production did anything even slightly out of line, he would tear into them without mercy. Why was he being so amiable today?
He was even praising her?
Could it be that he had some other intentions toward the woman in front of him?
But in the past, plenty of people had pulled strings to recommend all kinds of beautiful female actresses to him, and he had rejected every single one of them. Could it be that none of those women had been as beautiful as the one standing before him?
The director spoke with a kind and amiable expression.
“I happen to have a second female lead who can’t participate because she’s fallen ill. If you’re willing, you can take a look at the audition script later, choose a scene, and perform it. We’ll have you audition this afternoon. If you pass, the role is yours!”
The second female lead!
Both Wen Yusui and Lin Yinyin were stunned.
She had only played an extra once, and now she had somehow picked up a second female lead role. Wasn’t she incredibly lucky?
Wen Yusui and Lin Yinyin exchanged a smile.
“Thank you, Director!” Wen Yusui said with a smile.
Meanwhile, Ding Yan was staring fixedly at Wen Yusui and Lin Yinyin.
Ever since entering the intensive training class, she had been pretending to be weak and helpless. Back then, Lin Yinyin had promised that the two of them would support each other. Yet in the blink of an eye, Lin Yinyin had abandoned her and started spending every day with Wen Yusui!
The two of them had clearly been enemies before, but now they had become friends, completely ignoring her!
And now Wen Yusui had even gotten the second female lead role.
Why her?
Ding Yan absolutely refused to accept this. And she would never let Wen Yusui get what she wanted!
