Jiang Shanhuan snapped her eyes open and sucked in a sharp, deep breath, finally easing the suffocating ache in her chest.

Two seconds later, her pupils dilated in absolute shock.

What was going on? Where was she?

Hadn’t she died in the combat zone?

What was this cozy, warm, and thoroughly gentle place?

Could this be… heaven?

“Tch…” Jiang Shanhuan twisted her neck and struggled to sit up in bed. “If I’d known heaven was this nice, why the hell would I have spent my life as a mercenary?”

Muttering to herself, she rubbed her throbbing temples, tossed aside the duvet, and climbed out of bed.

“Let’s see what God’s pad looks like.”

She took two steps before freezing. Something felt off. Wait a second…

Why was all the decor in this room distinctly Huaxia-style? Even the magazines on the coffee table were printed in Chinese characters…

Wasn’t God supposed to be a Westerner?

Had the Chinese language conquered all three realms of existence now?

Thud—

Lost in thought, she stubbed her toe hard against the leg of the coffee table. “Hiss—ow!”

In that instant, her pupils shrank again. Pain?

How could a dead person feel pain?

Before she could wrap her head around the situation, footfalls sounded outside the door. Her mercenary instincts kicked in instantly; she pivoted and dropped into a combat-ready defensive stance.

The next second, the doorknob turned with a soft click, and the door swung open.

A man stood in the doorway, his hand still resting on the handle. When his gaze fell on Jiang Shanhuan, a flicker of surprise flashed across his eyes.

He was tall and imposing, with sharp, handsome features and dark, brooding eyes. A black suit jacket was casually draped over his forearm. With his crisp dress trousers and polished leather shoes, he exuded an aura of rigid, razor-sharp authority just standing there.

What caught her eye most was his tailored white dress shirt, which perfectly accentuated his broad shoulders and narrow waist.

A bona fide stunner.

…So who the hell was this stunner?

Jiang Shanhuan eyed him warily. The man, however, merely paused for a brief second before turning to give an order to someone outside the door.

“Get the doctor in here.”

Only then did Jiang Shanhuan notice another man standing in the corridor.

The subordinate nodded at the command and turned to leave.

The stunner then shut the door, hung his suit jacket on the coat rack near the entrance, and strode toward Jiang Shanhuan.

He carried himself as if he owned the place.

“You’re awake?” he asked coolly, taking a seat on the sofa.

Jiang Shanhuan’s brow twitched. A fellow countryman?

She looked down at him from where she stood.

After a long pause, she blurted out, “Who the hell are you?”

The man stiffened, his face darkening, and looked at her with an intensely complicated expression.

“Did the crash scramble your brains?” he retorted.

What kind of look was that supposed to be?

If anyone had dared to speak to her like that in her past life, Jiang Shanhuan would have turned them into Swiss cheese on the spot. But right now, she had no weapons on her, and her body felt distinctly off.

Besides, this seemed to be his territory. It was better to be smart and adapt to the situation.

When under someone else’s roof, one had to bow one’s head.

“Heh, hehe…” Jiang Shanhuan forced an awkward chuckle. “M-Maybe it did.”

The man’s expression grew increasingly bizarre. He pulled out his phone and dialed a number. “Tell the doctor to hurry up.”

……

After a thorough examination, the doctor finally reached a diagnosis—due to the severe trauma of the car accident, Jiang Shanhuan was suffering from amnesia.

“Amnesia?”

“Amnesia?”

Jiang Shanhuan and the man spoke in unison.

The man’s brows knitted tightly together, his burning gaze pinned squarely on her.

Guilt pricking at her, Jiang Shanhuan averted her eyes, only to catch her reflection in the vanity mirror on the nightstand.

“Ah—!”

She let out a sharp cry. The face in the mirror—her old scars were gone, the eyes were completely unfamiliar, and the skin was so pale that not even a corpse dead for three days could match it. This… this wasn’t her body at all!

Boom—!

Like a thunderbolt ripping through a clear sky, a blinding agony tore through Jiang Shanhuan’s skull. Her vision went pitch-black, and she collapsed backward onto the bed.

In that fraction of a second, a torrential flood of memories that didn’t belong to her surged violently into her mind.

The original host of this body was also named Jiang Shanhuan. She was the adopted daughter of the Jiang family, one of the top aristocratic clans in the capital. Mother Jiang had taken her in from the streets when she was five years old.

The Jiang parents had spoiled her rotten, never mistreating her just because she wasn’t of their own blood. They had even thrown a lavish banquet to announce to the entire high society of the capital that Jiang Shanhuan was the Jiang family’s second daughter.

In the beginning, the three biological Jiang siblings had adored this younger sister as well.

However, the original host was a rotten seed from birth—a jealous, borderline-psychopathic lunatic.

She wasn’t satisfied with merely being an adopted daughter; she wanted to monopolize her parents’ affection entirely, and she wanted the Jiang family’s vast fortune all to herself.

On the surface, she played the obedient, sweet little girl in front of Mother and Father Jiang. Behind their backs, however, she ruthlessly plotted against her older siblings.

Over the years, her vicious schemes had included—but were certainly not limited to—slander, fabricating rumors, twisting the truth, driving wedges between family members, bribing the family chauffeur to stage a car crash, and colluding with the Jiang family’s bitter rivals to leak corporate secrets…

She carried out her malicious deeds with the relentless frequency of an NPC spamming a bugged quest in an RPG—never pausing, moving seamlessly from one crime to the next.

And the very reason Jiang Shanhuan had transmigrated into this body was intimately tied to the original host’s latest attempt to ruin the eldest Jiang brother.

A month ago, the eldest brother, Jiang Zhaoting, had been on the verge of closing a deal worth hundreds of billions for the Jiang Corporation. At the signing ceremony, in front of media cameras from across the nation, the original host had walked up and slapped the client’s representative squarely across the face, then proceeded to curse out every single executive from the partner company until they were blue in the face.

The debacle naturally ended in disaster. The hundred-billion-yuan contract that was practically in the Jiang Corporation’s pocket vanished into thin air.

Having decided to go out with a bang, the original host fled the signing ceremony and sped down the elevated highway like a maniac. She played bumper cars with traffic, flipping vehicles all across the bridge, before finally crashing through the guardrail. Car and driver plunged straight into the river below—a spectacular way to completely ruin herself.

Despite all the horrific things the original host had done to the three Jiang siblings, they had never once retaliated with lethal force.

After she was fished out of the river and rushed to the hospital, the eldest brother, Jiang Zhaoting, had even flown in several advanced sets of medical equipment from overseas just to save her miserable life.

To that, Jiang Shanhuan could only marvel at how absurdly lucky the original host had been. Blessed beyond measure.

What a pity, what a shame. Her bottomless greed had ended up leaving her with nothing at all…

Wait a damn minute—

Jiang Shanhuan’s train of thought slammed to a screeching halt. The original host had committed endless atrocities and kicked the bucket, so who was going to pay for the sins left in her wake?

Who was supposed to face the wrath of the Jiang family?

Her?!

Oh, God—

Was this retribution for all the people she had killed in her past life?

God, you sent me to the wrong address! Take me back, hurry!

Jiang Shanhuan wailed internally. Don’t leave me here!

“Don’t leave me behind—!” she yelled, bolting upright in bed.

Perhaps God really had heard her plea.

Facing the cluster of people hovering nearby, Jiang Shanhuan’s eyes immediately locked onto Jiang Zhaoting.

“Waaaah—Brooother~!”

Jiang Zhaoting’s brow hadn’t unknotted once, and hearing that cry now only made his face twist with profound disgust.

Ignoring her entirely, he turned to the doctor. “Are you sure there’s nothing wrong with her head?”

The doctor gave an awkward cough. “Miss Jiang’s physical body has recovered, but the car accident caused trauma to the brain, combined with near-drowning. Intermittent amnesia is a completely normal symptom.

“As for her mental state, if you’re concerned, Mr. Jiang, you could take the second young miss to see a psychiatrist. Our hospital’s psychiatric department is quite renowned.”

Jiang Shanhuan cut in instantly. “I’m not seeing a shrink!” What if they realized the soul inside had been swapped?

Jiang Zhaoting: “??”

The doctor added, “Listen to that, Mr. Jiang. Miss Jiang’s voice is so loud and full of vigor. You can rest completely assured regarding her physical condition.”

Jiang Zhaoting squeezed his eyes shut and waved a dismissive hand. Taking the hint, the doctor and nurses tactfully filed out of the room.

Watching them leave one by one, Jiang Shanhuan panicked.

She screamed in her heart: Don’t leave! How the hell am I supposed to handle a hundred billion yuan worth of fury all by myself?!
