“Well, care to explain yourself please.”

At the royal palace of the kingdom of Woodria. Inside the drawing room, Curtis smiled and looked at King Byron as the latter wiped off his sweat. Garusia, who stood behind, knew that Curtis’ eyes were not smiling.Full novel: Don’t Tell Me You Believe Cinderella’s Story Happens in Real Life?! — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

“She is the first princess of our kingdom. She’s also the fiancée of the next king of Estoria, my fiancée. Meaning, she’s going to be crowned queen. Yet, Dahlia was humiliated in public. Is this how you treat the royalty of an allied country?”

“Your Highness, Prince Curtis, you see…”

“She was accused of two-timing, and of being an illegitimate child. Since when did our royal family fall to the level of being treated as lowly as this? Huh. I can’t recall such a thing like this happening before. Garusia, can you?”

Curtis interrupted Byron’s attempt to make an excuse. It would normally be considered rude. He could’ve been angry at the other party’s rudeness, but he couldn’t do that considering what his son had done.

“I can’t, Your Highness. I’ve no memory of that either. Our armed forces, our treasury, our abundance of crops. I remember that in every way, our country was on par with the kingdom of Woodria.”

Garusia replied with a blank expression and yet anger filled his eyes. Garusia, like Curtis, had watched the wounded Dahlia grow up in Estoria. For him, Dahlia was not only an important person that he needed to protect. She was like a sister to him.

He would be crazy if he didn’t get angry for insulting her.

Garusia was often expressionless and considered cool-headed, but Curtis knew that he’s actually hot-headed.

“You seem to have forgotten that incident about Florence, and the abuse against Dahlia. We have closed our eyes to the folly of this kingdom twice. Don’t expect us to do it again.”

Byron was unable to finish his sentence.

A general who could kill his enemies with a glance. That was what he saw.

Byron had never been to war, but his heart nearly stopped at the sight of Curtis’ eyes.

“The duke immediately took a second wife right after Florence died. I meant the Duke’s betrayal, Your Majesty.”

“Ah!”

“Excuse me, I’ll leave now.”

Curtis left the drawing room with Garusia.

Because they were members of a royal family from another kingdom, Curtis and Dahlia were given rooms annexed to the royal palace of Woodria.

Curtis didn’t want Dahlia to stay in the same place as her ex-fiance, Prince Cody, but if something happened to them while in another kingdom, there was a possibility of war. They had no choice but to stay in the palace for security reasons.

“Illegitimate…”

“Hey Garusia. Where do you think that statement came from?”

Dahlia is the daughter of Florence and the duke. On the other hand, that girl’s the daughter of a former commoner and the duke. They have a one year age difference. In all likelihood, Betty is more plausible to be an illegitimate child.

Garusia put his hand on his chin and tilted his head. After thinking for a while, he opened his mouth.

“I’m sorry, Your Majesty. I’m quite surrounded by excellent people like His Majesty Othniel, You, Your Majesty and Lady Dahlia so with the likes of Betty Stewart… I don’t understand her line of thought.”

“I see.”

It was a mystery why she mentioned that, but Curtis thought that he didn’t need to think about it too much because it would only confuse him.

One of the reasons he came here was because he was worried about Dahlia, but another reason was that he came here to take revenge on everything and everyone that had hurt her. So, even without this incident, there was no future… for them, who hurt her.

“I heard that Lady Dahlia’s scars are still there,” Garusia said.

“She says it hurts when the weather is bad or cold. Right, I think Dahlia’s back. But where is she?”

Curtis strode down the hallway with a very happy face. He looked so handsome that many of the young ladies who were attracted to him, and some maids who passed by, blushed when they saw him.

What they didn’t know was that behind his happy smile, his thoughts were completely different.
