“Dahlia Stewart, I’m breaking off my engagement to you.”
It’s been a week since I went to Woodria to study. While I was eating in the dining room with the ladies I had become friends with, His Highness Prince Cody, who was holding Betty by the waist, pointed at me.
There was an uproar around us. People paused in their tracks, curious about what had just happened. Eventually, those who came to their senses eventually turned pale.
I, like the others, had no idea what was going on for a moment. It seems that His Highness, Prince Cody, whom I hadn’t seen in a long time, had been completely seduced by Betty and had completely become a fool.
The abuse that the Stewarts had inflicted on me had never been made public. It was because the loss of one of the four great dukes would upset the balance in the political system of the kingdom and could cause unnecessary strife.
Nevertheless, there was a formal protest that came from Estoria to Woodria, and since then they were banned from the social scene for a while.
Well, that’s a punishment that’s long over by now.
“Prince Cody, there seems to be a misunderstanding.”
“Don’t speak to me, a member of a royal family, without my permission.”
“As expected of you, Onee-sama. It seems that your stupidity hasn’t been corrected even after going to a neighboring kingdom.”
Prince Cody wrinkled his brow in displeasure, and Betty snickered at me as I was an idiot. The scene made everyone around anxious, and one of them rushed out of the dining room. Normally, a child of nobility would never do such a trivial thing as running in the hallway. I guess that person went out to call a teacher.
“I, too, am a member of a royal family. I do not need to ask for your permission to speak.”
“Your mother certainly is a royal, but when she became the wife of the Duke of Stewart, she lost her royalty standing, and became nothing but a vassal of Woodria. You’re just a daughter of a duke with royal blood. Don’t act cocky.”
The Countess sitting next to me shivered and turned her head. She seemed scared of what their disrespect might lead to.
Prince Cody had a point. Originally, what he said was true. But reality’s quite different now, and it’s their fault why everything has changed.
“You are mistaken about two things.”
I took my seat and looked up at the two people standing beside me. They flinched slightly at my gaze. Prince Cody bit his lip in frustration, embarrassed that I had frightened him even for a moment.
“I went to the kingdom of Estoria when I was young.”
“I heard that your cousin was put in a lot of trouble because of your selfishness. There were also some diplomatic problems.”
What? Is he saying that I went to Estoria because I was selfish? I want to explain myself, but I won’t be able to progress with my story, so I’ll let this pass.
“My engagement to you was broken off a short time after I went to Estoria.”
“Eh?”
This should have been said directly from Woodria’s King to Prince Cody, but he looked quite clueless and dumb. Maybe because he was still young back then so he struggled to remember. If that’s the case, then that’s a pity,
“Of course, there’s no way Onee-sama can be queen. You have no manners. You’re an illegitimate child.”
I’m not sure if Betty knew about the broken engagement or if she was surprised, but she smiled triumphantly.
Anyway, what she said was weird. And useless. It’s better if I crush them one by one now.
“At the same time, I’ve been legally separated from the Stewart family.”
At my words, Prince Cody drew a conjecture and his face paled. Even if his brain is a bit small, he certainly would’ve understood what I meant. He now seemed to have a good idea of what was going on.
Even so, he should have known all of this information since he was a prince.
“I didn’t come here to Woodria as its citizen. I’m here as an exchange student from Estoria.”
Betty was the only one who still didn’t seem to understand, tilting her head and looking at Prince Cody whose face was pale. She failed to understand my words even after saying this much.
This is bad. How can this girl be a daughter of a duke?
“I’ve been adopted by His Majesty, King Othniel, king of the kingdom of Estoria. In other words, I’m the first princess of the kingdom of Estoria. I’m also the fiancee of His Highness, Prince Curtis, the Crown Prince of Estoria.”
“You were two-timing?!”
It was at the same time that a teacher came to check the commotion when Betty’s cries filled the room. The teacher, who understood the situation to some extent after hearing from the students, stiffened at Betty’s unexpected remark. That one teacher was so shocked that she fainted.
