Chapter 20: A Pair of Pale Gold Wings!

The Star Soul Shows Its Power, Ultimate Speed!

On the dark red earth, before Bai Yuan could even steady himself, he had already sensed the auras ahead.

It wasn’t just one, but countless.

To the left, the Soul Power fluctuations were thick and violent; they belonged to orthodox Soul Masters, at least at the two-ring level.

To the right, the Soul Power was cold and sticky, carrying an uncomfortable sense of decay—Evil Soul Masterss, without a doubt.

Directly ahead, mixed between the two, was the characteristic manic aura of Soul Beasts, the most numerous and the most chaotic.

Soul Masters, Evil Soul Masterss, Soul Beasts.

A three-way melee.

The corner of Bai Yuan’s mouth twitched.

My goodness, what kind of three-way free-for-all is this?

In the distance, a Soul Master had his shoulder pierced by an Evil Soul Masters’s bone spear.

He let out a miserable cry and slapped his opponent away with a backhand palm.

Before he could catch his breath, a rotting Soul Beast pounced from the side, pinning him to the ground.

Elsewhere, several Evil Soul Masterss stood back-to-back, controlling chains of black Soul Power as they simultaneously fended off the pincer attack of three Soul Beasts and two Soul Masters.

At the center of the battlefield, a Soul Beast as large as a small hill was rampaging wildly, sweeping through everything regardless of friend or foe.

Flesh and blood flew everywhere amidst continuous screams.

Bai Yuan stood at the edge of the fray, squinting as he observed for a few seconds.

Whom should I help?

Soul Masters?

They seem to be the righteous side, but who knows?

This World has plenty of sanctimonious hypocrites.

Evil Soul Masterss?

Those things clearly aren’t anything good; helping them would be aiding a villain.

Soul Beasts?

Even less likely.

Soul Beasts devour people without leaving a trace; I’d rather help a dog than them.

Who’s the bad guy?

He scratched his head, falling into a brief philosophical reflection.

Then, a thousand-year Spirit Beast lunged from the shadows to the side, its blood-red maw snapping toward his head!

It was incredibly fast; an ordinary six-year-old wouldn’t have even had a chance to react.

But Bai Yuan was no ordinary six-year-old.

He didn’t even turn his head.

With a slight shift of his feet, his body moved half a foot to the side.

That bloody maw brushed past his ear, snapping at empty air.

Immediately after, he gripped the qinchen sword in a reverse hold and flicked his wrist.

A sword light flashed.

*Puchi.* The thousand-year Spirit Beast’s neck was pierced through by the sword.

Its massive body stiffened in mid-air for a moment before crashing to the ground, twitching twice before becoming still.

Bai Yuan withdrew his sword, flicked the blood off the blade, and looked down at the slightly trembling corpse with a frown.

“What are you doing?

Can’t you see I’m thinking?” His voice wasn’t loud, but in this Shura Field where the sounds of slaughter shook the heavens, it carried clearly.

Several Soul Masters and Evil Soul Masterss nearby turned their heads simultaneously, seeing this brat standing next to the pile of corpses with a face full of impatience.

A Soul Master’s eyes widened.

“Was that…

a thousand-year Spirit Beast?

In one strike?” An Evil Soul Masters narrowed his eyes and licked his lips.

“A child?

He looks delicious!

How could there be a child in this place?

But…

his Soul Power fluctuations are quite pure.” Several malicious gazes locked onto Bai Yuan at once.

Bai Yuan felt those gazes, sighed, and tightened his grip on the qinchen sword.

“Elder Han,” he shouted toward the sky, “for this trial of yours, can I choose a faction?

I want to be the referee.” There was no response from the sky.

Instead, the hill-like giant Soul Beast in the distance was drawn by the commotion and slowly turned its head.

A pair of eyes larger than lanterns stared straight at Bai Yuan.

Bai Yuan: “…” Fine, if I can’t be the referee, then so be it.

He raised his sword, pointed it at the giant Soul Beast, and said: “Then—I’ll just kill them all.” That Evil Soul Masters licked his lips, a greedy light shining in his eyes.

“How about we kill this kid first?

I’m absolutely starving for him!!!” Another Evil Soul Masters beside him raised a hand to stop him, lowering his voice.

“Don’t!

Deal with these Soul Masters first, don’t ruin the plan!” Before the words had even faded.

Bai Yuan moved.

Without a running start or any build-up, he gave a light tap of his foot, and his whole body seemed to be pulled by some force, vanishing instantly from where he stood.

The next second, he appeared in front of that Evil Soul Masters.

Nose to nose.

The Evil Soul Masters’s pupils shrank abruptly, his body instinctively catapulting backward as a distorted scream escaped his mouth.

“What?!

How can he be so fast!!!” He retreated fast, but Bai Yuan’s sword was faster.

The qinchen sword slashed upward diagonally, the sword light like a silvery-white crescent moon, silently slicing across his throat.

“Ugh, ah—!” Blood sprayed.

The Evil Soul Masters clutched his neck, his eyes bulging wide.

His mouth opened and closed, opened and closed, as indistinct sounds gurgled from his throat.

He staggered back two steps, his body beginning to twitch uncontrollably before finally crashing to the ground.

Even in death, those eyes stared fixedly at Bai Yuan, filled with resentment and grievance.

Bai Yuan flicked the blood off his sword, looking at the corpse on the ground expressionlessly, but inside he couldn’t help but complain: Holy crap, this is way too realistic.

The angle of the blood splatter, the weight of the falling corpse, the look in those eyes that refused to close even in death.

It’s all exactly like the real thing.

Just how did the Spirit Pagoda’s technology achieve this?

He could even feel the droplets of blood splashed onto his face—warm, sticky, trickling down his cheek.

Bai Yuan reached out and wiped it, looking down at the red on his fingertips.

“Elder Han,” He looked up toward the sky.

“The blood in this illusion, it couldn’t be real too, could it?” There was still no response from the sky.

But the melee in the distance had fallen silent for a moment because of the recent commotion.

The Soul Masters looked at him, the Evil Soul Masterss looked at him, and even the Soul Beasts tilted their heads to look at him.

A six-year-old child had taken down an Evil Soul Masters with a single strike.

Neat and efficient, without even blinking an eye.

Bai Yuan felt those gazes, sighed, and raised the qinchen sword, pointing it toward the center of the battlefield.

“Next.” Bai Yuan’s gaze locked onto the next target.

His feet moved.

Teleportation.

His entire being seemed to have space folded around him by some force.

One second he was beside the corpse, the next he was pressed right in front of another Evil Soul Masters.

That Evil Soul Masters was dealing with a Soul Beast when he caught a glimpse of a figure appearing out of thin air, his pupils shrinking violently.

“You—” He instinctively retreated, Soul Power exploding beneath his feet as his figure drifted back several yards like Gui Mei.

At this distance, he was confident that even an agility-attack system Spirit King wouldn’t dream of catching up in an instant.

But Bai Yuan kept up.

It was that unreasonable speed, even a notch faster than before.

As if he had been standing behind him all along, the tip of the qinchen sword almost touched his nose.

“How can he be faster than before?!” the Evil Soul Masters shrieked.

He had clearly opened up the distance, so why had this child’s speed increased again?

Ever since he killed the first Evil Soul Masters, he felt something within him being activated.

It was a more fundamental power, engraved deep within his Star Soul.

Fire and light, the incarnation of good and evil.

The longer he fought and the more enemies he killed, the faster he became.

With every enemy slain, his speed increased by a notch.

There was a limit, but it was still far off.

“No!” The Evil Soul Masters frantically channeled his Soul Power, laying down layer after layer of defensive shields in front of him.

Black evil spirit power surged like a swamp, attempting to block the sword.

The qinchen sword thrust forward plainly.

The tip touched the first shield—shattered.

The second layer—shattered.

The third layer—shattered.

The black defenses were like paper before that silvery-white sword light, crumbling layer by layer.

“Ahhh—!” The sword tip sank into the Evil Soul Masters’s chest and emerged from his back.

The Evil Soul Masters looked down at the blade in his chest, then up at the child before him.

His mouth moved, but in the end, he said nothing as his body slumped down.

Bai Yuan withdrew his sword and took a deep breath.

The power within him surged once more.

He looked down at his hands, feeling the steady stream of power welling up from the depths of his marrow.

His speed was faster, his reactions sharper, and even the edge of his sword felt keener.

No rush.

With a light tap of his foot, his figure vanished once again.

In the fray, a third Evil Soul Masters was commanding his Soul Beast to besiege a Soul Master when he suddenly felt a chill down his spine.

He whipped his head around.

A silvery-white sword light had already descended upon his head.

Bai Yuan hadn’t even noticed it himself.

While he was focused on hunting down the Evil Soul Masterss.

Something was quietly taking shape behind his back.

It was the phantom image of a pair of wings.

A pale gold light flowed through the air.

Every line carried a sense of divine yet dangerous beauty.
