The summer sun blazed like a giant burning fireball.
Waves of heat rolled through the air.
Dogs by the roadside stuck out their tongues, desperately trying to cool down.
Pedestrians on the street either held parasols or wore sun hats, all walking in hurried steps.
“What the hell, what kind of weather is this?
It’s way too hot.” In a rental room without air conditioning, the windows were open for ventilation.
A lone fan spun stubbornly, though the air blowing onto his face was still hot.
But it was better than nothing.
Mu Chen sat in his computer chair, cursing under his breath.
In his early twenties, he had a somewhat handsome face with very pleasant features.
With the heat, he was shirtless, showing a hint of toned muscle from some training, wearing only a pair of loose beach shorts.
This rental was the cheapest in the city and conveniently close to the downtown area.
The only downside was the lack of air conditioning.
He was practically being roasted alive.
The oppressive heat made Mu Chen irritable, especially since he had just been fired.
Until he found his next job, he could only work part-time at a barbecue stall at night.
Mu Chen sucked on a popsicle while scrolling through short videos.
He happened to pause on a post from the local police department’s official account.
It held his attention for a few seconds.
“Tsk tsk, a walking half a million.” Mu Chen watched for a bit, then swiped past.
Though the reward was tempting, it had nothing to do with him.
What were the odds he’d actually run into that guy?
At night, Mu Chen worked his usual shift at the barbecue stall: carrying trays, clearing iron skewers from tables.
Around eighty yuan a night, barely enough to get by.
For someone with no elderly to support and no children to raise, at least he wouldn’t starve.
“Hello sir, we are closing up now…” “!!!” Mu Chen was clearing a table when he looked up and saw a masked man sitting there alone.
Habitually, he went over to give a reminder.
This was fairly common.
But when Mu Chen saw the face that looked up at him, his heart nearly leaped into his throat.
This man’s left eyebrow was only half as long as his right.
A large sunken scar ran through it, as if the skin and eyebrow had been sliced away by a blade.
His eyes were dark and deep, clearly someone not to be messed with.
Wasn’t this the walking half a million he had seen on the short video?
Pfft!
A blade pierced through Mu Chen’s abdomen.
The pain in his abdomen made Mu Chen’s eyes go wide.
Was he really that unlucky?
“Kid, don’t blame me.
You saw something you should not have.” The fugitive said coldly, his right hand holding the knife that had pierced Mu Chen’s stomach.
His blue shirt was instantly stained red with blood.
Mu Chen could already feel his strength fading, but he gritted his teeth, a flash of fierceness in his eyes.
“What if I did see you?
Fuck you!” Pfft!
Several sharp iron skewers still carrying bits of grilled meat residue were driven straight into the man’s neck by Mu Chen.
Blood immediately gushed out.
Mu Chen could tell he had pierced the man’s throat.
He had been working as a barbecue server for a while now.
He knew exactly how sharp those skewers were; how else would they pierce through meat?
“You…” “Huff…
you bastard…” Pfft…
The man’s eyes went wide.
Mu Chen pulled out the skewers and stabbed through his throat again.
That was called finishing the job.
The man clutched his neck, blood foam spilling from his mouth.
Who would expect an ordinary person, even after being stabbed in the stomach, to still fight back?
He had momentarily forgotten he was still holding a knife.
In his eyes, Mu Chen was just an ordinary young man, nothing special, found everywhere.
It was not like he had some protagonist’s plot armor.
‘Damn it.’ Mu Chen thought with regret.
He should have checked the almanac today.
His consciousness was growing dimmer.
He had no strength left.
His luck really was not great.
In the end, all he could manage was a one-for-one trade.
If he had not been discovered, he could have called the police.
Thump!
Mu Chen could not hold on any longer.
He collapsed limply to the ground, curling up.
Watching the barbecue stall owner shrieking in panic, Mu Chen thought, ‘That half a million is yours now.
Hope you can handle my funeral arrangements.
Otherwise, I will be knocking on your door at midnight.’ “Ahhh…” “Ghost!” cried the owner.
After the owner called the police, only the fugitive’s corpse remained.
Mu Chen’s body was nowhere to be found.
His mouth gaped open in terror.
After an unknown amount of time passed.
When Mu Chen opened his eyes again, he found himself hurtling through a starry void.
A warm ball of white light surrounded him, carrying him toward an unknown destination.
‘Hmm?
Am I flying to the Land of Light?’ Mu Chen’s body could not move, but he could not help quipping inwardly.
The light swirling around him almost made Mu Chen think he had become light itself.
He had dreamed of that as a kid too.
The view outside resembled a cosmic starry sky, filled with many bubbles that looked like colorful worlds and fascinating planes.
Suddenly, a bold guess arose in Mu Chen’s mind.
He had coincidentally become a transmigrator, though he was still in transit and had not reached his destination.
Mu Chen was not particularly uneasy.
He adopted a “go with the flow” attitude.
He had nothing to lose anyway.
He was alone, with no attachments.
His computer did not have any study materials that needed deleting.
It was just a shame about that half a million.
He was not some wealthy billionaire, nor was he a rich second-generation heir waiting to inherit a fortune.
There was nothing to regret.
He’ll take a gamble.
A transmigrator usually gets a golden finger.
Boom!
After an unknown amount of time passed.
It felt like he collided with or scraped against something, causing violent shaking.
Mu Chen’s heart lurched.
He was not about to be in a transmigration traffic accident, was he?
Hum!
Several different colored lights entered his body directly.
This sudden change knocked Mu Chen unconscious.
Heavenly Genesis World, Blue Profound Heaven.
Cangmang Continent, Great Zhou Empire, Great Zhou City.
“Hiss…” Mu Chen sucked in a sharp breath and slowly opened his eyes.
The glaring light took him a moment to adjust to.
The surroundings were completely unfamiliar to him.
This was not a modern city of towering skyscrapers.
It felt like he had traveled back to ancient times.
The air was fresher than he had ever experienced.
Mu Chen knew he had arrived in another world.
Oh yeah, from today on, he was a transmigrator too.
“Hiss!” He pinched his cheek with his small hand.
Pain meant it was not a dream.
He really had been reborn.
His body now felt much smaller.
This must be a perk of transmigration: a fresh start from childhood.
Transmigration came in three types: soul transfer, body transfer, and womb transfer.
His was a body transfer.
He kept his own body, but his age had changed.
Though he retained his original body, unlike a soul transfer, he had no memories of this world and would have to gather information himself.
Thump!
The moment he tried to take a step, his legs gave out.
His face met the ground in an intimate embrace, instantly caked with dirt.
Mu Chen, already weak, felt drowsy from the fall.
His head was spinning, and he could not stand up at all.
No way.
He had just started his second life, and this was how it ended?
“Grandpa, someone is lying on the ground over there.” “Cough…
let us go check it out.
Looks like a child.” In his dazed state, Mu Chen heard an old man’s voice and a little girl’s voice.
His eyes could not open anymore.
He could only leave it to fate.
“Little one, wake up.
Cough…” The old man helped Mu Chen sit up and found he had already fainted.
“Grandpa, take care of yourself.
You cannot overexert yourself.” The girl said with concern.
Her grandfather’s health had been poor for a long time.
Now walking so fast only made her anxious and worried.
“Cough, it is nothing.
This little one is very weak.
I wonder whose child he is.” The old man coughed and waved his hand.
