However, Licks’s second attempt still ended in failure.
Even so, he managed to maintain the Super Saiyan transformation for five seconds longer than during his first attempt.
After Dende restored his energy, Licks followed Tarble’s advice before beginning his third attempt.
This time, he was finally able to maintain the transformation without being forced back into his normal form.
To be absolutely certain, he even attempted it a fourth time.
The result was exactly what everyone had hoped for.
Licks had successfully mastered the Super Saiyan transformation.
On the other side, Vegeta had just returned home.
As soon as he sensed Licks’s aura surge and remain stable for an extended period, a faint smile appeared on his face.
After arriving on Earth, Vegeta had privately asked Licks about everything that had happened over the years.
According to Licks, despite being stationed on a remote planet, he had always remained faithful to his duty, treating Tarble’s safety as his highest priority.
Licks explained that during their final mission, he and another companion named Tomato had encountered an overwhelmingly powerful enemy.
Both of them had risked everything to protect Tarble.
In the end, Tomato sacrificed his life, taking the enemy down with him.
Vegeta felt genuine gratitude toward both Licks and Tomato.
Licks also told him that after that incident, Tarble had become obsessed with training.
Of course, Vegeta wasn’t willing to accept only one side of the story.
He later spoke with Tarble in private and confirmed that everything Licks had said was true.
From that moment onward, Licks held a much higher place in Vegeta’s heart.
Vegeta had begun treating him like family.
He understood better than anyone that Saiyans normally would never obey someone weaker than themselves.
Much less risk their own lives to protect them.
If this had been the old Vegeta, he would have sneered and said there was no reason to protect weak trash.
But the current Vegeta only felt gratitude.
The simplest way to repay Licks was to help him become a Super Saiyan as quickly as possible.
Unfortunately, Vegeta had long realized that Licks’s growth rate was much slower than his own had been.
If they relied only on conventional training, there was no chance Licks would meet the requirements to become a Super Saiyan anytime soon.
That was why Vegeta had already decided that once Tarble successfully transformed, he would ask Dende for assistance.
He also knew that people were most vulnerable to fatal injuries when they were completely caught off guard.
That was the reason he had attacked and seriously injured Licks without warning him beforehand.
At the same time, Vegeta had expected Licks to become furious.
As far as Vegeta knew, overwhelming anger was the key to awakening the Super Saiyan transformation.
It accomplished two goals at once, and with Dende there to heal him, there was nothing to worry about.
After landing outside the luxurious villa, Vegeta looked back toward Kami’s Lookout and muttered, “This is what you deserve.
Whether you hate me or resent me, I, Vegeta, fear nothing.
Strive to become stronger.”
After saying that, he slowly walked toward the dining room.
The setting sun stretched his shadow far across the ground.
They had originally believed he would need a long time to become a Super Saiyan.
Instead, he succeeded on only his fourth attempt.
The result exceeded everyone’s expectations.
At Kame House, Krillin looked toward Kami’s Lookout with obvious envy in his eyes.
“Master Roshi, a Saiyan’s talent is truly beyond what ordinary people can ever hope to match.”
Although he laughed, his voice carried envy, bitterness, and a trace of self-mockery.
In less than two months, both Tarble and Licks had become Super Saiyans.
Just over a month earlier, even Chiaotzu, the weakest among them, had been far stronger than either of the two Saiyans.
Now, those veteran Earth warriors had been completely surpassed.
The speed of their growth felt even greater than Son Goku’s had once been.
Krillin guessed it was because they had been training inside the Gravity Chamber.
Even so, he could only sigh in admiration.
A Saiyan’s talent was truly monstrous.
Android 18 happened to be inside preparing dinner.
Otherwise, she probably would have offered a few comforting words.
Master Roshi glanced sideways at Krillin before looking back toward the night sky.
A thoughtful light shone in his eyes.
“Everyone walks a different path in life, just as everyone walks a different path in training.
Why compare yourself to a Saiyan, Krillin?
You have your own life to live.
Look back at how far you’ve come.
Aren’t you hundreds, perhaps even thousands of times stronger than you once were?”
He deliberately paused before looking at Krillin again.
Seeing the stunned expression on his student’s face, Master Roshi continued.
“If you want to surpass others, you must first surpass yourself.
Krillin, after all these years, do you still remember why you wanted to become stronger in the first place?
Among your generation, only Son Goku, Tien Shinhan, Piccolo, and Vegeta have remained true to their original goals.
What about you, Krillin?
Do you still remember your original dream?”
After saying those words, Master Roshi slowly turned and walked back toward the house.
“On the long road of life, holding onto your original purpose is the most precious thing.
The most precious thing.”
Hearing those words behind him, a strange light flickered in Krillin’s eyes.
He quietly murmured, “My original dream.”
After sensing that Licks had successfully become a Super Saiyan, Tien Shinhan, Chiaotzu, and Yamcha all came to the same conclusion. Read this novel at g.com for the best experience.
Saiyans were truly monsters.
After expressing their amazement, Tien Shinhan and Chiaotzu immediately resumed their training.
Yamcha, meanwhile, returned to enjoying his carefree lifestyle.
At Gohan’s house, Piccolo formally said goodbye before leaving.
Watching Piccolo’s departing figure, Gohan’s eyes were filled with reluctance.
“Uncle Piccolo, are you going to train too?”
They had only spent a little over a month together before it was time to separate again, so Gohan naturally found it difficult to say goodbye.
In Gohan’s heart, Piccolo held an even more important place than his own father, Son Goku.
Piccolo was not his biological father, but he had been a better father figure than anyone else.
During Gohan’s most vulnerable childhood years, Piccolo had taught him everything from how to fight to what it meant to become a true warrior.
More importantly, Piccolo had sacrificed his own life to save him twice.
The first time was on Earth.
The second time was on Namek.
Whenever Gohan was in danger, Piccolo was always the first person to stand in front of him.
It was a debt of gratitude Gohan could never truly repay.
At the same time, Gohan also understood that surpassing Son Goku had always been Piccolo’s lifelong goal.
Although Piccolo had never stopped training, the difference in their natural talent remained an obstacle that hard work alone could not overcome.
Because of that, he had never fulfilled his dream.
To Gohan, Piccolo was far more than a mentor.
What Gohan didn’t realize was that Piccolo was just as reluctant to leave.
Instead of flying away immediately, Piccolo deliberately chose to walk forward.
He simply wanted to stay with Gohan a little longer.
