Two years passed inside the Dragon Emperor Domain. Time passed. His life passed. He came to understand that he would not be the same after living all these years with the dragonesses.
Outside, in the quiet house on the branch of Ragnar, less than two minutes had slipped by since Nicolas vanished from his bed. That is to say the grief of his parents and the laughter of Daniel and the cold letter from Director Nikla still hung in the same frozen night that he will never forget in his heart to be preserved forever. Inside the Domain the artificial suns rose and set a thousand times over the farms. Nicolas worked without rest. Flame-fruit, terra-grain, stone-root, and blood-leaf filled the storage vaults until the system recorded a clean total of five hundred thousand units. In that way the Domain itself began to feel less like a gift and more like the first real answer the hyperverse had ever given him. In that sense, Nicolas was more than ready to let go of any prejudice. Even more, he knew that he could do it without any problem.
He fed Ember, Victoria, and Lola until each stood at Level 10. Their bodies lengthened. Wings broadened. The heat of Ember’s scales, the solid weight of Victoria’s hide, and the dual pulse of Lola’s lava-dark form all deepened. Then he opened the store again. Nicolas felt like every moment made him get closer to what his dream laid.
The gold he had earned from the Rock Dragon victory and the small daily yields of his bonded dragonesses totaled just over ten thousand. He spent it without hesitation on a Potentializer that permanently raised the growth ceiling of targeted dragons and accelerated attribute refinement under elemental Laws. He used it on all three. The potentializer dissolved into soft light that sank into their scales. Afterward he fed them again richer mixtures, denser energyuntil every one of them reached Level 15. What is more the potentializer did not merely strengthen them. It began to rewrite the limits the academy had once tried to place on mixed blood.
Only then did the real training begin and finished as usual. But this time, he took a step further toward training his dragonessess.
Nicolas stood in the center of the arena and spoke the Laws he could now feel through their blood.
“Fire is not only heat. Earth is not only weight. Learn the difference between burning and transforming. Learn the difference between standing and enduring.”
Day after day he drilled them. Ember’s flames grew tighter, hotter, more precise. Victoria’s earth became denser, her defenses almost absolute. Lola’s dual nature fused the two into something that could melt stone and then harden the molten result into armor. Their attributes climbed under the pressure of the Laws. After all the empty altar had given him nothing, but the Domain kept answering with something the pure spirits of Luminas had never touched.
While they trained, the Domain itself expanded. Three habitats unlocked and stabilized: a Fire Habitat that could hold four dragons, an Earth Habitat that could hold four, and a Water Habitat that could hold four. Ember claimed the Fire Habitat. Victoria claimed the Earth. Lola moved freely between both, her dual nature allowing her to rest in either. That is to say the Domain was already becoming a living extension of the blood that the academy had declared worthless.
Then Nicolas turned his full attention to Ember. Ember understood it. That fire burned bright like 1000 stars.
He sat with her beneath the Summoning Tree and began to teach what the system had only hinted at and what his own evolving bloodline now understood.
“Fire consumes,” he told her. “Everything placed into it loses its previous form. Wood becomes ash. Food becomes strength. Ore becomes metal. Attachment to any single form is temporary. But fire does not merely destroy. It transforms. What disappears as one thing reappears as another. Form to combustion to transformation to new form. Destruction and creation are not always enemies. Transformation is the bridge. Fire needs fuel, yet fuel is not fire. A flame exists only through relationshipfuel, air, heat, space, star, burning, flames, combustion, and extinguishing. Nothing burns alone. Fire rises. It reaches upward when stone and water cannot. That is aspiration: the movement from what one is toward what one can become. And fire cannot be grasped. You cannot hold a flame in your fist. You can only participate in the conditions that let it live. The harder you try to possess it, the less you understand it.”
Ember listened, eyes locked on his. The glow beneath her scales deepened from ordinary red to a pure, almost white heat. In that way the teaching itself became another form of fuel.
Nicolas spoke the final distinction, the words accumulating the same way every true climb accumulates.
“The immature fire says, ‘I will destroy whatever opposes me.’ The mature fire says, ‘I will transform what enters me.’ The ultimate fire says, ‘I do not need to conquer transformation. I am transformation.’ Rage burns outward. Will burns forward. Wisdom burns inward. The Dao burns without hatred. A true master of Fire does not simply grow stronger destruction. She learns to convert resistance into fuel, suffering into knowledge, ignorance into understanding, weakness into strength, and the death of an old self into the birth of a greater one. Even fire must one day return to the Dao. The flame that insists on burning forever consumes its own fuel. Supreme mastery is knowing when to burn, what to transform, and when to become still.”
The moment the last word left his mouth, Ember’s body erupted in silent white-gold fire.
Evolution complete. Ember has advanced to Mythic Rank. Class: Mythic Dragon. Title: Dragoness of True Ultimate Flames. Dao of Fire : Fully Comprehended.
The fire collapsed inward. When it cleared, Ember no longer stood as a pure dragon.
She stood in a human-dragon form.
Tall, elegant, and dangerous. Scales of living white-gold traced the outer edges of her limbs and the elegant line of her spine. Hair the color of pure flame fell to her waist. Her eyes were twin suns. Small, graceful horns crowned her head. Wings of translucent fire folded behind her back. She looked at Nicolas with perfect clarity.
Then she smiled.
“Darling,” she said, voice warm and certain. “I understand now.”
Nicolas felt the change hit him at the same instant. His body stretched. Bones lengthened. Muscle densified. In the space of a few heartbeats he grew two full feet taller. His golden skin brightened until it seemed lit from within. His hair lengthened, falling past his shoulders in heavier waves of spun brass and living gold that would make any girl fall for him deeply in love . The vampire hunger and the Sun Elf radiance fused tighter. Something deeper in his bloodline shifted, refined, and settled into a higher state. What is more the fusion felt like the Domain itself rewriting the mixed blood that Luminas had called a waste.
Ember stepped close, still smiling, and rested one clawed hand lightly against his chest.
“You taught me the Dao,” she murmured. “Now we burn forward together.”
Victoria and Lola watched from the edge of the Fire Habitat, eyes wide. The Domain itself seemed to breathe deeper around them.
Nicolas looked down at his newly strengthened hands, then at the Mythic dragoness who called him darling without hesitation.
Two years of Domain time.
Less than two minutes in the real world.
He already stood taller, stronger, and no longer alone.
That is to say the empty altar had been waiting for a different answer all along.
Well, well, well. My Nicolas is growing strong and handsome.
