Warmth was the first thing Su Yan registered.

Not the violent, suffocating inferno that usually devoured her veins, but a steady, soothing heat that settled deep within her ribs. She opened her eyes to find flickering orange light dancing across the jagged ceiling of a quiet, sheltered cave.

Panicked memories flooded her mind , the agonizing collapse of her meridians, the unbearable fever that had driven her to her knees... and the mysterious, dark-eyed man whose cool touch had felt like a drink of ice water in the depths of hell.Full novel: Dual Cultivating With Beauties To Godhood — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

Su Yan sat up abruptly, gasping as her hand flew to her collarbone. She immediately turned her perception inward, inspecting her spiritual core, fully expecting to find her meridians scorched beyond repair.

Instead, her ruby-red eyes widened in complete disbelief.

The chaotic Yang fire that had threatened to consume her life for years had been tamed. Calm streams of refined fire Qi circulated smoothly through her newly cleared pathways, granting her a level of internal peace she had never experienced in her entire life. For as long as she could remember, her body had felt like an unexploded furnace, forcing her family and sect elders to spend small fortunes on useless pills while lamenting her doomed potential. Now, in a single morning, the silent agony had vanished.

A ray of true hope surged through her chest for her future, her martial path, and her standing as the lead disciple of Lotus-Phoenix Peak.

She looked down at herself. Her damp, torn outer robes had been neatly wrapped around her shoulders to keep out the chill. The mouth-watering aroma of roasted wild meat filled the air, cutting through the damp stone scent of the cavern.

"You're finally awake."

Su Yan flinched, her head snapping toward the shadows beside the small campfire.

Sitting lazily on a smooth rock, casually turning a wooden skewer over the flames, was the young man from the lake. He looked unimpressive at first glance his clothes were cheap and torn, his lithe frame slender but the absolute, abyssal calm in his dark violet eyes sent an involuntary shiver down her spine.

"You..." Su Yan rasped, her voice dry. "Where are we? What did you do to me?"

"A cave in the northern hills," Gu Chen replied smoothly, not even looking up from the meat he was tending. "You've been unconscious for six hours. It's midnight. I dragged you here so the wild beasts wouldn't feast on your corpse while your body digested the treatment."

Su Yan pushed herself off the ground, her instincts as a high-tier genius disciple kicking in. She backed away toward the cave mouth, her hand instinctively resting on the golden hilt of her sword.

As she reached the opening, she stopped dead in her tracks.

The air at the entrance shivered with a faint, translucent ripple. Thin, invisible threads of refined spatial energy bridged the gap between the stone walls, completely sealing off the cave’s heat, scent, and aura from the outside world. Outside, she could see massive shadowy beasts prowling through the dark forest, yet none of them even glanced toward the cavern as if the entrance did not exist at all.

A concealed spiritual barrier? Su Yan gasped internally, her mind reeling.

To construct an invisible, aura-cloaking formation using only basic surroundings without using a single formation flag or spirit stone was a feat only master array grandmasters from central empires could achieve! How could a youth in ragged clothes perform high-tier grandmaster magic in a backwoods realm like this? Who was he? A hidden elder in a youth's skin? A demonic spy?

She turned back to face him, her guard raised as high as it would go. "Who are you really? A disciple from a hidden clan?"

Gu Chen didn't answer right away. He carved a tender piece of meat with a small blade, popped it into his mouth, and tossed a portion onto a clean leaf near the fire. "Eat. Your body burned through a massive amount of stamina while I was purging your lethal blockages."

Su Yan swallowed hard. The mystery surrounding him was suffocating, and every proud instinct told her to return to the safety of her sect territory.

"I... I appreciate you helping me," she said, keeping her tone cool and polite as she tightened her white-and-red robes around her chest. "My sect will compensate you generously for your aid. But I must leave now."

She turned back toward the barrier, taking a firm step forward.

"Walk out that entrance if you wish," Gu Chen’s voice echoed softly from behind her. It wasn't loud, nor was it aggressive, but it carried an icy, absolute weight that rooted her feet to the dirt. "But without me to draw out your sun poison, your meridians will rupture again before the week is out."

Su Yan froze, her breath catching in her throat. She turned back slowly, her lips trembling. "What... what do you mean? My body feels fine! The fire is subdued!"

Gu Chen finally stood up. He wiped his blade on a cloth and stepped out of the campfire's warm glow, gliding toward her with the slow, deliberate grace of an apex predator stalking cornered prey.

"The fire isn't gone, beauty," he murmured, his voice dropping into a low, magnetic purr. "I merely siphoned off the overflow that was about to burst your heart. The Sun-Phoenix Physique inside you is a natural furnace. It generates pure Yang energy continuously. Right now, it's quiet because your body is exhausted. But as soon as your Qi circulates fully tomorrow morning..."

He stopped directly in front of her. He was so close she could feel the faint, cool aura radiating off his skin an aura her body was already craving with a terrifying, subconscious desperation.

"...it will begin to build again," Gu Chen whispered. He reached out to lightly brush a strand of damp crimson hair behind her ear, his cool fingertips grazing her jawline.

A sharp shiver ran straight down Su Yan's spine, a deep, chemical reaction stirring in her blood as her body recognized the only source of relief for her burning condition.

"...and next time, the flame will burn twice as hot," Gu Chen continued, his violet eyes locking onto her ruby ones. "No local doctor, no high-tier pills, and no family elders can save you. They don't even understand what your body is."

Su Yan’s heart hammered against her ribs. Fear, pride, and helpless realization tangled inside her chest. Deep down, she knew he was telling the truth. Her sect had consulted dozens of grand physicians, and every single one had declared her condition an incurable curse. This stranger was the only person in her life who had ever given her relief.

Gu Chen smiled a slow, predatory smirk that sent a wave of heat pooling directly into her lower stomach. He stepped closer, closing the remaining space until his chest nearly brushed hers, his gaze sweeping over her flushed face.

"Yield your furnace to me," Gu Chen murmured, leaning down until his breath brushed her skin. "Let me draw the poison out. You want to live, don't you? You want to reach the supreme heights of cultivation?"

Su Yan’s pride flared against the sheer magnetic weight of his presence. She bit her lower lip hard, her hand tightening on her sword hilt. She wanted the cure desperately but the thought of surrendering her body and her dignity to a complete stranger on his terms terrified her.

No. I am the lead disciple of Lotus-Phoenix Peak. I cannot just give in like this!

With a sudden burst of will, Su Yan drew upon her newly restored fire Qi, placing her hand against his chest and shoving herself backward. She retreated five full paces toward the far side of the fire, drawing her sword half an inch from its scabbard with a sharp clink.

"Touch me again, and I'll cut off your hand," she declared, her voice trembling slightly despite her best efforts to sound stern. "I am grateful for your help, but I will not be manipulated by you. I'll find another way to balance my energy!"

Gu Chen didn't look angry. In fact, he threw his head back and let out a dark, amused chuckle that echoed off the stone walls.

"A feisty one," Gu Chen murmured, entirely unbothered by her sword. "Very well, beauty. Keep your blade close if it brings you comfort. I have no interest in wasting energy on unwilling prey."

He turned back to the campfire, settling down on his rock and closing his eyes to enter a meditative state. But as he began circulating his cultivation, he subtly channeled a faint thread of his cold, demonic aura through the air a subtle trace of his Abyssal Soul Anchor that seeped into the atmosphere of the cave. It was completely harmless, yet it guaranteed that as her internal fire rebuilt itself, her body would crave his specific ice energy above all else.

Before Gu Chen could settle deeper into his meditation, a sudden golden light flashed inside his mind.

Gu Chen opened one eye, a cold, razor-sharp smirk touching his lips as he glanced across the fire at Su Yan.

She was sitting on a bed of dry leaves at the far edge of the cavern, her sword resting across her knees. She stayed wide awake through the dark hours, her ruby eyes darting between the cave entrance and the mysterious man in front of her torn violently between her proud resistance, her deep suspicion, and the terrifying, magnetic hope that he held the key to her survival.
