Gray dawn mist filtered through the thick forest canopy, casting cold light over the jagged rocks outside the hidden cave.

Su Yan had not slept a single second. Sitting at the far edge of the cavern, her fingers stayed wrapped tightly around the golden hilt of her sword. Every time her eyes drifted toward the campfire, she found Gu Chen sitting cross-legged in silent meditation, his breath slow and deep. He looked entirely defenseless, yet the subtle, freezing aura floating around him warned her that touching him would be like stepping into an abyss.

Unable to endure the suffocating silence any longer, Su Yan cleared her throat, her voice laced with reluctant decorum.Full novel: Dual Cultivating With Beauties To Godhood — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

"I never introduced myself properly yesterday," she said, pulling her disheveled white-and-red robes closer around her shoulders. "I am Su Yan, lead disciple of Lotus-Phoenix Peak within the Sun-Moon Sect. You... saved my life when my meridians collapsed. Yet I still do not even know who my benefactor is."

Gu Chen did not immediately open his eyes. He slowly completed a cycle of Qi refining before his dark, long eyelashes lifted, revealing striking violet-purple pupils that glowed faintly in the dim cavern light.

"Gu Chen," he replied calmly, his voice smooth and entirely devoid of mortal warmth.

Su Yan’s ruby-red eyes narrowed slightly as she searched her memory of the province's prominent figures. "Gu Chen? There is no high-tier clan or prominent family by that name in the region. Are you an outer disciple? A rogue cultivator? Or perhaps... a successor from a secluded ancient order?"

A faint, predatory smirk carved across Gu Chen’s pale, handsome face. Standing at a commanding six feet with his jet-black hair bound in a sleek ponytail, his lithe frame exuded an untouchable, ancient presence that belied his ragged clothes.

"You won't find my name in your sect's mundane record books, beauty," Gu Chen purred, his voice carrying an icy, absolute arrogance. "Nor do you need to concern yourself with my origin. You only need to remember one thing ,Gu Chen is the only name in this world that can keep your fire from burning you to ash."

Su Yan bit her lip, her pride flaring at his condescending tone. "You-...."

Suddenly, her ears twitched.

Far down the mountain trail, the crunch of heavy leather boots and the rhythmic clinking of iron blades broke the silence of the morning.

Su Yan’s ruby-red eyes snapped toward the cave mouth, her body tensing instantly. She attempted to channel her Qi to stand, but a sharp wave of fatigue washed through her limbs. Her meridians, though purged of the deadly overflow, were still severely sore and depleted from yesterday’s near-fatal collapse.

"Rogue cultivators..." she whispered, her brow furrowing.

"Not just rogues," Gu Chen’s calm voice cut through the dark. He stood up with slow, effortless grace, a faint, dangerous gleam dancing in his violet pupils. "Just a few bloodthirsty rats. They must have felt the lingering Qi you left behind during your flare-up, and now they're searching for easy prey."

Su Yan bit her lip, struggling to her feet. Her sword rasped an inch out of its scabbard. "There are at least five of them. The leader's aura feels heavy... early-stage Foundation Establishment. In my current state, I can barely fight off two basic Qi Refining foot soldiers."

She glanced at Gu Chen, expecting to see panic on his pale face. After all, his current aura registered as merely a low-level Qi Refining cultivator.

Instead, Gu Chen dusted the dirt from his sleeves as if he were taking a casual stroll through an imperial garden, his 6-foot, lithe frame exuding absolute, untouchable calm.

"Stay here," Gu Chen said coldly, brushing past her toward the cave entrance. "You'll only get in my way."

"Wait! You can't face a Foundation Establishment cultivator head-on with your low realm!" Su Yan called out, stepping forward, but Gu Chen had already glided past the shimmering boundary of the concealed array.

Outside, five burly men clad in rugged leather armor and scarred iron plates pushed through the scorched reeds. At the front stood a hulking brute holding a massive, notch-bladed waraxe, his skin covered in jagged crimson tattoos.

"Boss, look at this ground! It was roasted by pure, high-tier fire Qi!" one of the henchmen barked, pointing at the blackened earth. "Whoever was here must have crashed hard! They might be carrying high-grade fire herbs or storage rings!"

"Search every crevice!" the Bandit Leader rumbled, his voice like grinding stones. "If they're alive, slaughter them. If it's a female cultivator, strip her rings and save her for the night!"

Before the bandits could take another step, a tall, slender youth stepped calmly out from behind a mossy boulder, blocking their path.

"Looking for something?" Gu Chen asked, his voice dripping with bored arrogance.

The bandits froze, then burst into roaring laughter.

"A kid?" the Leader scoffed, spitting a glob of phlegm onto the grass. "A sickly trash stepping out to play hero? Kill him and take whatever copper coins he has in his pockets!"

Two foot soldiers at the 5th Stage of Qi Refining charged forward simultaneously, their heavy steel saber blades whistling through the damp air, aimed directly at Gu Chen’s neck and waist.

Gu Chen didn't even bother to draw a weapon.

To an ancient Demonic Sovereign who had fought celestial war-gods, the swinging of mortal steel was as slow as a crawling snail. As the blades closed in, Gu Chen stepped forward into the space between their guards.

CRACK!

With a flash of dark Qi, Gu Chen’s palm slammed upward like an iron strike into the first bandit’s jaw, snapping his neck back at an impossible angle. Before the second bandit could register his comrade's death, Gu Chen pivoted on his heel, catching the man’s sword wrist with his bare hand. He twisted it violently until bone shattered through skin, grabbed the falling saber mid-air, and drove the steel backward directly through the bandit’s chest.

Both bodies hit the dirt simultaneously with a heavy, wet thud. The entire encounter took less than three breaths.

Su Yan, watching from behind the boundary, felt her heart leap into her throat. No wasted movement. Brutal, lethal, and absolute... how can a low-level disciple possess such terrifying battle instincts?!

"You little bastard!" the Bandit Leader roared in rage, his eyes turning bloodshot at the instant execution of his men. He lifted his heavy waraxe, his early-stage Foundation Establishment Qi bursting forth in a wave of murky green, poisonous aura. "I'll chop you into meat paste!"

The brute leaped into the air, bringing the massive waraxe down with enough force to shatter boulders. The axe head glowed with a volatile, corrosive flame effect, sweeping in a massive ten-foot arc.

Gu Chen’s violet eyes narrowed slightly. His vessel was currently too weak to take a direct shockwave from a heavy Foundation Establishment attack without tearing Yu Shen's newly mended meridians.

Rather than wasting his precious soul force in a brute-force clash, Gu Chen executed a quick spatial footwork step, retreating back past the cave mouth. He reached out, grabbed Su Yan firmly by her slender wrist, and hauled her deep into the inner darkness of the cavern.

"Hey! What are you doing?!" Su Yan gasped as she was yanked backward.

"Silence," Gu Chen hissed into her ear, his voice sharp and commanding.

He dragged her into a hidden, pitch-black rock alcove tucked behind a jutting stone pillar, a narrow crevice barely wide enough for a single body. Gu Chen pushed her back against the damp, cold stone wall and stepped inside immediately after her, sealing them both inside the tight space.

BOOM!

Outside the alcove, a heavy impact echoed across the rock walls as the Bandit Leader's axe slammed directly into Gu Chen’s invisible array barrier. A translucent ripple of spatial energy flared violently, bouncing the brute's strike backward with a harsh, metallic clang.

"What the hell is this?!" the remaining henchman yelled outside, stumbling back in panic. "Boss! There's an invisible array barrier sealing the cave mouth! Our Qi is bouncing right off!"

"Damn it!" the Bandit Leader roared in frustration, swinging his waraxe repeatedly against the shimmering barrier. BANG! BANG! BANG! "Some trash array won't stop me! It's flickering keep attacking! Break through it!"

Inside the crevice, the space was suffocatingly tight.

Su Yan’s back was slammed flat against the cold stone, her chest heaving as she held her breath. Gu Chen was pressed completely flush against her front. There was not a single millimeter of space between them. His lithe, sharply sculpted frame crushed against her soft, rising bosom; his legs pinned hers firmly to the stone wall, anchoring her in place.

Before she could utter a sound, Gu Chen’s cool, long fingers clamped firmly over her mouth, muffling her gasp. His other arm wrapped tightly around her narrow waist, squeezing her flush into his frame to prevent her from making a sound.

Su Yan’s ruby eyes dilated in complete shock.

She was trapped in total darkness, pinned beneath the weight of a dangerous, mysterious young man, while a bloodthirsty bandit leader pounded against the flickering spiritual barrier just feet away. The sheer terror of discovery, mixed with the intense, suffocating physical intimacy, sent her heart hammering violently against her ribs.

Her heartbeats thundered so hard she was certain Gu Chen could feel every strike against his own chest.

Gu Chen leaned down, his face burying into the curve of her neck so he could whisper directly against her ear without making a sound.

"Don't move," he breathed, his hot, smooth breath brushing over the sensitive skin of her throat. "If you make a sound, I will use you as a shield."

A deep, electric shudder ran straight down Su Yan’s spine.

Trapped in his grip, feeling his firm, cool body pressed so fiercely against hers, her internal biology reacted in the worst possible way. The intense adrenaline, the suffocating fear, and the close proximity to his soothing, icy aura acted as a violent catalyst.

Deep within her lower core, the dormant Sun-Phoenix fire sparked back to life.

A feverish, crimson heat erupted within her chest, rapidly spreading outward to her limbs. Sweat instantly broke out across her forehead, collarbones, and chest, soaking her white-and-red robes. Her fair skin flushed a deep, feverish rose, her body temperature spiking at a terrifying speed.

"Mmm..." Su Yan let out a muffled, desperate whimper against Gu Chen’s palm, her ruby eyes growing hazy with sudden, agonizing heat.

Her meridians burned, screaming for relief. Instinctively, completely betraying her proud, noble mind ,her body recognized the cool, demonic energy radiating off Gu Chen as its only salvation. Unconsciously, her hands rose from his chest, her fingers twisting desperately into his black garments, pulling him even closer to her body. Her hips arched upward into his touch, seeking any fraction of cool comfort she could find against his frame.

Gu Chen felt the sudden spike of blistering heat radiating from her body. He looked down through the dark, his violet eyes locking onto her flushed, trembling face.

A slow, smirk spread across his lips beneath the shadow of the alcove.

He didn't draw out her heat. He simply held her tight, letting her writhe in quiet, agonizing bliss against him while the bandit outside smashed stone walls in vain. He knew that every second she spent trapped in this torment, her proud resistance was crumbling just a little bit more.

Her Sun-Phoenix fire was building up far faster than she had anticipated.

By tonight, Gu Chen thought, his eyes burning with cold demonic ambition as he felt her weak, desperate shivering against his chest, she will be begging me to take her.
