Again?!
19: Chapter 19: Transmigration?
Again?!
That Man-faced Bat was definitely dead.
And the rats had all retreated; the entrance of the shack was covered in the corpses of rats killed by Wilden.
Blood flowed from the mangled meat, and combined with the strong, pungent stench of the rats themselves, the two smells mixed together, making the odor inside the building exceptionally ‘beautiful’ for a moment.
Mia pinched her nose.
But some of the smell still snuck in through the gaps between her fingers.
It made the girl’s stomach churn.
She hadn’t even eaten more than a few bites of dinner…
“Gag!” She couldn’t hold it back anymore.
The mangled remains of giant rats—even without describing them, one could imagine their hideousness.
They had to be cleaned up.
Fortunately, the floor of this house was flagstone and the walls were stone brick; only the beams supporting the roof were wooden structures.
Wilden helped throw all the rat corpses out, and Mia directly set them on fire.
As for the bloodstains on the ground, they were also dealt with by fire; after the flames licked over them, a scorched smell replaced the animal stench.
Though it was also pungent, at least it didn’t make one want to vomit.
Kalé hadn’t returned yet, and Mia was slightly worried.
However, on second thought, as a member of the Nomadic People traveling in this world for so long, Kalé must have some way to save his own life.
Mia yawned; the warm campfire made her feel weary.
“Why did that bat have to pick a fight with us?” she suddenly asked.
“Maybe this is its territory,” Wilden replied.
He sat guarding the door and poked his head out to look outside.
The pile of rat corpses hadn’t finished burning yet, and he didn’t see any sign of other rats.
Wilden pulled his head back after a glance.
“That bat was once a subject of the Erdtree as well.” Mia looked at the grace in the center of the small shack and nodded.
The root cause of everything was the shattering of the elden ring.
Then she yawned again.
She hadn’t slept well for two consecutive nights, and now that she was finally in a shelter with a ceiling, the girl found the exhaustion unbearable.
She had originally wanted to wait for Kalé to return before sleeping, but she seemed to have overestimated her energy.
Especially in The Lands Between where phones and computers didn’t exist, waiting was a form of torture.
Curled up in the corner of the house with her legs hugged to her chest, drowsiness blurred her vision before she knew it.
— Mia had a dream.
She dreamt that the rats all became very big, exceptionally big.
Probably because of the saying, ‘what you think about by day, you dream about by night’…
Mia, who had repelled the bat and the rats, also dreamt of rats.
The rats in the dream were even more massive than the ones she had just encountered; they even stood upright like humans, clutching weapons, and turned into an army amidst a cacophony of hissing and screeching.
This was an extraordinary army.
The torches of the ratmen flowed through their underground strongholds, burrowed into the sewers of human cities, and then transformed into an evil legion carrying plague.
Mia couldn’t describe from what perspective she was dreaming of this scene; it was as if she were watching a movie.
Watching these ugly, filthy creatures spread like a black tide.
Then, Mia felt a violent sensation of falling.
The girl woke up with a start.
Everything before her eyes was pitch black.
Subconsciously reaching for her eyes, the blindfold that had always covered them and allowed her to see things was gone.
Like a severely nearsighted Soldier waking up in the morning to find their glasses missing, Mia fumbled around the ground in a slight panic—actually, Mia’s situation was more serious than that example, because without that strip of cloth, she truly couldn’t see anything, no different from a blind Soldier.
But within reach, there was no sensation of the cloth strip.
Fear and anxiety instantly shrouded her along with the darkness.
‘Where did it go…
where did it go?’ Where did her vision go?
The girl saw a cluster of golden light floating in the pitch blackness, seemingly guiding her toward a certain place.
It was exactly the same as the guidance of grace.
Mia reached out to test her surroundings; she touched a cold wall.
Bracing herself against the wall, she tried to follow that guidance forward; it was the only thing she could see, and it gave her some hope.
Just two steps in, she was tripped by something lying across her path.
Mia fell heavily to the ground, but she still couldn’t see anything, which made her increasingly agitated, her breathing quickening.
She tried to fumble around, wanting to figure out what had tripped her.
Her palms crawled across the floor, her nose catching a whiff of the stench of a sewer, and finally, she touched a cold, skin-and-bones limb covered in coarse fur.
It clearly belonged to some non-human animal, and the slimy filth on that limb made Mia shudder.
It was obvious she was no longer in the small shack where she had been staying.
Quickly withdrawing her hand from that foul thing, Mia heard a series of scurrying footsteps.
She wanted to call for Wilden, but immediately realized those footsteps definitely didn’t belong to the tall and sturdy Royal Army Soldier.
But with her senses in disarray, she couldn’t tell where the footsteps were coming from.
Perhaps most people have a stereotype about blind people, thinking that those who lose their sight can focus more on information from other senses—like their ears.
But Mia didn’t count as a blind Soldier; when she wore that blindfold, she was no different from a normal Soldier.
So now, she was also no different from a normal Soldier who had suddenly gone blind.
She felt terrified by the situation where she could see nothing.
She could only hear the footsteps getting closer and closer.
In the pitch-black field of vision, the girl quickly lay flat on the ground, controlling her breathing.
She didn’t want to get involved in some incident while she was still completely ignorant.
The complex stench of the sewer grew stronger as the footsteps approached.
The footsteps stopped, likely noticing Mia, but Mia remained completely ignorant of what was before her.
“Man-thing!” Mia heard a series of voices with a sticky, hissing sound around her.
“Yes, yes, man-thing!
Dead, dead.
Tender meat.” “Fragrant meat~” “Female man-thing, yes, yes…
I’m hungry, I want to eat.” The way those things spoke was somewhat familiar.
Mia’s body was tense; she squeezed her left hand, vowing that no matter which direction they touched her from, they would only be met with raging fire.
This tension from trying to hide and get through unnoticed actually made her sudden blind-induced anxiety and fear recede a bit.
“No!
You rat-scum—” a voice screeched.
“Tender meat, offer to Grey Prophet, to Grey Prophet Thanquol!
We get boons.” “But if we eat, Thanquol won’t know…
he can’t see here, can’t see!” “Hiss—, yes, yes, Thanquol can’t see!” “We eat female man-thing, eat, eat!” “Give me her leg, I want the leg.” “The belly is tasty, eat the guts, the blood is sweet and flavorful.” Those monsters shoved, bumped, and bickered with each other.
“Shut up!
No fighting among rats!
I’ll do the carving!” “Why do you get to carve?!” The monsters broke into infighting; Mia clearly heard the dull sound of a blade entering flesh, and the monster that had just spoken screamed before falling silent.
The surrounding footsteps became chaotic for a moment.
“I am the strongest, so I carve.
Anyone who’s unhappy dies, dies!” “Squeak, squeak—yes, yes, strongest rat-kin, you carve.” The chaotic footsteps gradually died down, leaving only one set, heavy and powerful, walking toward Mia.
Clang, clang—it was the sound of armored metal clashing.
But wait…
this sound didn’t seem to be the monster’s footsteps?!
An armored Soldier, or some creature, came running over.
Mia heard the whistle of a weapon cutting through the air, and the group of monsters surrounding her erupted in a frenzy.
“man-thing!
man-thing!” Splat— Blade met flesh.
Mia shivered because she felt warm bodily fluids splatter onto her.
“Strongest rat-kin is dead, dead!
It’s a big man-thing!” Splat, splat, splat—the sounds of flesh being severed were incredibly dense.
Even without seeing, Mia could imagine the one-sided slaughter.
“Run!” Those monsters scrambled over each other, making noisy squeaks and hisses, screaming as if they had seen the most terrifying thing imaginable.
These monsters, whose true forms Mia had yet to see, fled in a desperate scramble.
Clack— The sound of iron boots stepping on the ground came from right beside Mia.
“…Wilden?” she asked tentatively.
“It’s me.” The soldier replied.
“Have you seen my blindfold?” Because she couldn’t see, she hadn’t dared to move recklessly.
“I’ll look for it,” the soldier said, and Mia heard him moving around again.
After a moment, Wilden replied, “Here it is.” He pressed the blindfold into Mia’s hand.
Fortunately, the recent battle hadn’t stained the blindfold with filth.
Only then did the girl breathe a long sigh of relief.
“Where did you find it?” Mia asked as she tied the blindfold over her eyes.
Wilden replied, “Not far from your side.” It seemed it had just accidentally fallen off.
Mia tied the blindfold a bit tighter than before.
Returning to the light, she stood up and turned around.
Ugly corpses lay scattered haphazardly across the ground.
She realized she was gradually becoming desensitized to such scenes.
“Skaven Skaven…” Mia murmured.
No wonder their speech sounded somewhat familiar.
This was not a race belonging to The Lands Between.
Which meant she had transmigrated again.
“You know these things?” Wilden, holding his dual swords, became uncharacteristically proactive upon hearing Mia name the monsters.
“Then do you know where this is?
I can no longer feel the Erdtree.” Mia looked around.
The two of them were in a city alleyway, and the buildings on both sides had a distinct late-medieval style.
The time was undoubtedly night, but now, this darkness was infested by an eerie green fire.
The city was burning.
The hisses of Skaven and the screams of humans echoed from unknown streets and buildings, one after another.
“Of course you can’t feel it.
Because we are no longer in The Lands Between.” “What?” “We have to find a way to leave this world!” Mia made a judgment immediately after recognizing the situation.
warhammer fantasy!
Compared to this world, even The Lands Between could be considered a paradise!
Mia deeply regretted her former youthful arrogance.
To think that when she first transmigrated, she actually had the outrageous thought that ‘Warhammer might be better than elden ring’ and so on!
“Follow me!” In the depths of her mind, Mia’s subconscious told her that the guidance she saw when she couldn’t see earlier was the key to leaving this world.
Even now, when Mia closed her eyes, that guidance still existed.
