ELUX : TALES OF HAILS AND FAILS

*Chapter 12: The Library of Smiths*

The light didn’t fade.

It stayed.

Elux sat in the socket, hand fused to the machine beneath World-0. Blue circuits ran from his fingers, up his arms, and out across the entire plane. The white tile was gone. Now it was all glass and light and lines connecting to hundreds of fractures in the sky.

He could see everything.

World-7B. Seven reloading, Director Lin holding the line.

World-3. The monk deflecting arrows with his staff.

World-12. The pilot dragging his ship out of a fire.

And thousands more. Worlds he didn’t have names for.

And in every one of them, an Elux Smith. Breathing. Fighting.

_We hear you,_ they whispered across the network. _We’re with you._

The Null King hadn’t moved. It stood at the edge of the hub, watching. The void behind it was peeling back further, like it was unsure what to do with a gate that refused to close.

His mom stepped forward. The light didn’t hurt her eyes anymore.

“You okay, my son?” she asked.

Elux opened his eyes. They were solid blue now. No pupils.

“I’m not just me,” he said. His voice echoed with thousands of others. “I’m all of us.”

The Other Nanjue picked up the key from the floor. It was dead now. Ash.

“So it worked,” he said quietly. “You became the anchor point.”

Before Elux could answer, the floor beneath them shifted.

A door opened in the glass. Not a fracture. A real door. Metal. Old.

Stairs led down.

“Did you do that?” Seven’s voice came through the network.

“No,” Elux said. He stood. The socket released him without pain. The light stayed in him. “Something else did.”

They descended.

The air got colder. The walls were covered in files. Not paper. Crystalline tablets, each one glowing faintly. Row after row, stretching into darkness.

A library.

“World-0’s core archive,” Other Nanjue whispered. “I thought they destroyed this.”

At the center of the room was a pedestal. On it, one empty slot.

And above the slot, a name burned in blue light:

*SMITH, ELUX. FILE 13.*

The tablet slid into place by itself.

Images flooded Elux’s mind.

File 1: Elux the king. Ruled an empire. Died at 80.

File 2: Elux the scientist. Cured disease. Died in a lab fire.

File 3: Elux the thief. Stole from gods. Died on a cross.

...

File 12: Elux the soldier. Held the line. Died with a spear in his hands.

And File 13.

It was blank. Until now.

New text wrote itself across the crystal:

_Subject 13: The First to Live. The Gate. The Hub. Threat Level: Multiversal._

The library shook.

From the top of the stairs, a sound. Boots. Hundreds of them.

The Nulls had found the stairs.

“They’re here for the files,” Other Nanjue said. “If they erase the records, they erase the versions. Even with you as the hub.”

Elux looked at the endless rows. Thousands of Eluxes. Thousands of lives.

He raised his hand.

The blue light left him and poured into the library. Every tablet lit up. Every name burned bright.

“If you want them,” Elux said, voice shaking the walls, “you go through me.”

The first Null reached the bottom of the stairs.

Elux smiled.

“Welcome to the Library of Smiths.”

And the fight began.
