Minoru Kagenou and Sora Kagenou were both university students, already over eighteen.
After finishing off the biker gang, Minoru Kagenou started walking home.
A figure stepped out from a corner up ahead.
“Impressive fight — taking down eight bikers all by yourself!
Very nice, Stylish Thug Killer!”
Minoru Kagenou looked at the speaker.
The guy looked a bit like him.
It was his distant cousin, Sora Kagenou.
“So, what do you want?”
“On the surface, just an ordinary guy.
But underneath?
A super powerful badass!”
“Am I right, cousin?
Minoru Kagenou?”
His identity blown, Minoru Kagenou didn’t bother keeping up the act.
He took off his hat.
“How’d you figure it out?”
“I saw you training your wrist strength in class!
And I ran into you just now, so I thought I’d bluff you — and you caved!”
“Keep it quiet.
I don’t want anyone else knowing,” Minoru Kagenou said.
“I can do that.
But there’s a condition.”
“What condition?”
“I want to be like you, cousin.
Ordinary on the surface, insanely strong underneath — an Eminence in Shadow.
That’s so cool!” Sora Kagenou said, genuine longing in his voice.
This feeling…
it’s like finding a kindred spirit, Minoru Kagenou thought.
He’d been chasing that dream since childhood.
At first, plenty of kids shared it.
But one by one, they all drifted away.
He was the only one left, still pushing toward becoming an Eminence in Shadow.
He thought this was a lonely road.
Never imagined he’d find a like-minded partner at this age.
“Deal.”
Minoru Kagenou held out his hand.
Sora Kagenou slapped it.
That high-five sealed their bond.
The next night.
The bikers they’d beaten up, all wrapped in bandages, were back out in the fields making noise.
This time, they’d doubled their numbers.
21 motorcycles.
“Boss, we gotta find that Stylish Thug Killer and get payback.
Picking that name just to screw with us!
We need to teach him a real lesson!”
The 21 bikes roared forward, engines screaming.
A rock flew in with perfect aim, smacking the speaker square in the head.
It knocked him off balance, sending him crashing into the bike beside him.
The Stylish Thug Killer appeared again.
All the bikers charged at Minoru Kagenou.
He took them down one by one with his crowbar, knocking each off their ride.
Then everything turned into a chaotic group brawl.
Minoru Kagenou moved calmly through the crowd, occasionally cracking someone’s skull with the crowbar.
Lights out in an instant.
5 minutes later, all 20 bikers lay on the ground.
Their so-called leader tried to peel out and run.
A crowbar flew through the air and nailed him.
The one who threw it was Sora Kagenou.
He wasn’t strong enough yet, so he could only pick off the stragglers.
And so the days passed for Minoru Kagenou and Sora Kagenou, living the life of Eminences in Shadow.
The bikers never learned.
They still rode around the fields, but they’d scatter whenever they saw Minoru Kagenou.
Still, a few always ended up on the ground.
It happened over and over.
The bikers just wouldn’t quit.
They kept being reckless, though they all wisely started wearing helmets.
As time passed, Sora Kagenou trained his long-distance running.
He needed to keep up when his cousin went on a crazy sprint, so they could both reach the isekai transporter together and let a big truck send them off.
