【Welcome to the Road Survival Game for All! This is an escape game for all members of the Five-Race Clan. The rules are as follows.】
【1. Every Player will randomly receive a Starter Vehicle. Gather materials to keep upgrading and evolving your Vehicle.】
【2. Keep driving along the Highway, because the Gray Mist behind you will chase you until you reach the finish line. Of course, you can also choose to turn around and drive straight into the Gray Mist. After all, isn't death another way of reaching the finish line?】
【3. Supply Crates may appear along either side of the Highway. They might contain supplies that will help you survive—or they might unleash an unknown danger.】
【4. Under normal circumstances, you will be the only Player on each Highway. A sudden fork might lead to a service station, a monster's lair, or even other Players coming to kill you!】
【5. You may encounter monsters while driving on the Highway. Killing them may yield supplies, but could also cost you your life.】
【...】
【17. The first seven days are the newbie protection period. Once it ends, rankings will be determined by your mileage, and the top-ranked Player will receive an extremely generous reward~】
【18. Don't linger at the starting point for too long, because monsters will soon come looking for you. Don't think you can defeat them. The only way to survive is to run—floor it and go!】
【Your Status Panel has been activated, and your randomly assigned Vehicle has been delivered. Please enjoy this escape game.】
Su Ye sat in the driver's seat of a pickup truck, utterly bewildered.
“What the hell... I transmigrated again?”
Why did he say “again”?
Because just half an hour ago, he had still been on Earth.
He'd been walking home from work when he heard that someone was about to jump off a building, so he went over to watch.
As it turned out, a man in boxer shorts was standing in a panic on an air-conditioning unit outside the tenth floor.
Su Ye immediately understood what was going on and took out his phone to record someone else's life.
But as the crowd of onlookers grew, the man in boxer shorts panicked, missed a step, and fell—landing right on top of him.
When Su Ye came to again, he found he had transmigrated into the body of an eighteen-year-old young man who shared his name.
After receiving the body's memories, Su Ye learned that he had transmigrated from Earth to Blue Star.
Besides, he had already been thirty back on Earth. Now he was twelve years younger. However you looked at it, he'd come out ahead.
Su Ye then began learning about Blue Star. He had already started planning how to use his memories of Earth to make a fortune.
But the more he learned, the more bewildered he became.
He discovered that all of Blue Star seemed to be frozen in time—and there wasn't a single person around.
Su Ye was about to explore further when he heard an announcement that the Road Survival Game for All was beginning.
The next time he opened his eyes, he was here.
“Road Survival for All? So the reason there wasn't anyone on Blue Star is that everyone came to this Road Survival Game?”
As Su Ye wondered about this, he was about to examine the Game Rules when five figures appeared up ahead.
“A new round of Road Survival is starting again. This time, we need to put in some effort, kill more Players, and earn more Survival Points.”
“That's right. Once we've saved up enough Survival Points, we can join Road Survival again. Staying in the Gray Mist World day after day is no different from being dead.”
“Brother Zhou, the four of us will handle things in a moment. You can deliver the finishing blow.”
“Well, would you look at that? This Player hasn't even started his vehicle yet. He's practically giving us an opening.”
“...”
The five were led by a handsome, middle-aged man in a suit, his hair slicked back. He held a greatsword and looked every bit like a suited thug.
The other four wore short-sleeved shirts and carried weapons such as wrenches and steel pipes.
“What the hell? Didn't it say there'd normally only be one Player on each Highway? Why did five suddenly show up?”
“And it's barely even the start of the game!”
Su Ye had no time to read the Game Rules carefully. He hurriedly started the vehicle, planning to get away first.
“Trying to run now? Too late!”
The handsome middle-aged man shouted, swinging his Machete in a wide arc, ready to bring it down.
But then he saw Su Ye's panicked face through the windshield. His expression faltered, and the Machete suddenly veered aside, barely missing the pickup truck.
Then Su Ye saw something that made his heart sink.
A blade of light swept out, carving a trench thirty meters long into the ground beside them.
“Brother Zhou, what happened?”
“Yeah, with your strength, shouldn't that strike have chopped the Player into pieces? How'd you miss?”
“...”
The other four ran over too, asking with curious expressions.
The handsome middle-aged man looked puzzled. He knocked on the window. “Kid, get out on your own, or don't blame me for cutting you down.”
The other four exchanged glances.
“Brother Zhou, why are you wasting your breath on this Player? We're monsters. He can't understand what we're saying.”
“Exactly. Let's finish him off quickly so we can get to the next round. These Players have only just arrived and don't have any means of protecting themselves yet. They're perfect for the picking.”
At their words, the handsome middle-aged man said nothing, but raised his Machete again.
He hadn't said anything outright, but Su Ye understood: if he didn't get out soon, they were going to smash their way in.
Besides, Su Ye had picked up on something strange. Players? Monsters?
Could he not understand what these guys were saying?
The handsome middle-aged man was about to attack again. Remembering the blade of light from earlier, Su Ye knew it was already too late to run.
He could only grit his teeth and roll down the window, forcing a smile. “Big brother, don't attack. We can talk this out.”
At Su Ye's words, not only the handsome middle-aged man but also the other four froze in place, as if they'd been hit with a stun.
“A human? You're human?”
One of them came to his senses and pointed at Su Ye, unable to believe it.
Though the question was a little strange, Su Ye still nodded. “Big brothers, I'm human. I'm just like you.”
“What the hell, he really is human!”
“What's going on? How did a human get into a vehicle?”
“Could this kid have killed the Player ahead of time?”
“Impossible. The game just started, and the monsters assigned to each road are fixed. There can't be any other monsters besides us.”
“...”
The four shouted over one another, clearly unable to make sense of Su Ye being human.
“You're a Player?”
The handsome middle-aged man spoke up.
“Uh, yes. Aren't you five Players too, big brothers?”
Su Ye swallowed. He wasn't stupid. From the bits of information these men had let slip, it seemed they weren't Players.
They were monsters!
And apparently, humans couldn't become Players.
“You're human, and also a Player? What's your name? What was the name of the planet you were on before you came to the Survival Highway?” The handsome middle-aged man asked gravely.
The other four fell silent too, staring intently at Su Ye, as if his answer would be something momentous.
