Su Yue walked to the kitchen door and took out the thick sugarcane from her space.
The cane was so long it stretched across both the kitchen and the living room.
Her eyes lit up.
Placing her hand on the sugarcane, she activated her ability.
Before long, the purification was complete.
A hint of joy flashed in her eyes as she used her fingernail to mark lines along the cane.
“Big brother, bring the electric saw and cut along the lines I drew.”
“Okay.” Su Yi responded and followed her instructions.
The electric saw proved extremely effective. Under Su Yue’s guidance, Su Yi quickly cut the cane into ten sections.
The sugarcane was full of juice, and sweet liquid splashed out as it was cut.
Su Yi accidentally tasted some while working, and his eyes immediately lit up.
From then on, he worked even more enthusiastically whenever Su Yue gave instructions.
After cutting, Su Yue kept the ten sections and stored the remaining cane back into her space.
She and Su Yi chewed on some of the pulp produced by the saw, then she instructed him to peel the ten sections using the electric saw.
By the time all ten pieces were peeled, the saw indicated that its energy was nearly depleted.
To conserve the energy crystal, Su Yue stopped using the saw.
Instead, she had Su Yi fetch a kitchen knife for the next step.
She planned to cut the sugarcane into sticks and sell them.
This way, no one would be able to tell how large the original cane had been.
Su Yi was good with his hands and quickly cut a large number of sugarcane sticks—each about 10 centimeters long and roughly 2 centimeters in width and height.
Su Yue found several large plastic bags. As Su Yi processed the sticks, she packed them into the bags, setting aside imperfect pieces to eat or cut into smaller samples for tasting.
The siblings worked while eating, full of energy.
Half an hour later, the work was finally done.
Su Yue then instructed Su Yi to clean up, gathering the waste so she could store it in her space and dispose of it outside the city next time.
Meanwhile, Su Yue took out the smallest potato from her space.
After purifying it, she cut off a portion, peeled it, sliced it into strips, and blanched it.
Then she fried it in oil, added seasoning, and made a dish of spiced potatoes.
Well… not quite the crinkle-cut style in shape.
Once the potatoes were done, lunch was ready.
“Mmm—so good—this potato is really good—” Su Yi didn’t care that it was hot, stuffing his mouth full.
Su Yue, on the other hand, ate more gracefully—and had a more discerning palate.
The potatoes were delicious, but they could be even better.
The seasonings at home weren’t extracted from natural plants but were synthetic.
These synthetic seasonings slightly affected the taste of natural food.
Even so, Su Yue didn’t mind at all.
After eating synthetic food and nutrient solutions for so long, this meal already felt like a feast.
Soon, the siblings finished an entire pot of potatoes.
For the first time since arriving on DQ008, they felt truly full.
“Burp—” Su Yi suddenly let out a burp.
Then came several more in a row.
“Hehe.” Su Yue couldn’t help but laugh.
Su Yi laughed foolishly along with her.
After a while, Su Yue stood up and directed Su Yi to help clean the kitchen.
Once everything was cleaned, she stored most of the packaged sugarcane sticks into her space.
The remaining portion was placed into two baskets, with some also put into a basin.
She also took a stack of packaging bags.
Then the siblings set out together, carrying the baskets.
Su Yue walked ahead, leading Su Yi toward the commercial district.
It would take at least an hour to walk there. It wasn’t that she didn’t want to take a hover bus—her account balance was already zero.
Even if she wanted to, she couldn’t afford it.
The safe zone they lived in was called Boundless City, the largest city on DQ008.
It housed not only exiled criminals but also many natives, as well as mercenaries who came to hunt or train.
Where there were people, there was consumption—and the commercial district was the most affluent area in the city, frequented by the wealthy.
After an hour, the siblings finally entered the commercial district.
The streets here were wider and cleaner than outside, and the people appeared more leisurely.
Most of them were well-dressed—at least far better than the siblings.
Avoiding patrol drones, Su Yue brought Su Yi to the front of a department store.
After checking the surroundings, she uncovered the basin she was holding and began to shout:
“Natural sugarcane! Cheap natural sugarcane for sale! Three star coins a piece—if it’s not sweet, you don’t pay!”
“Natural sugarcane! Fresh, sweet, and juicy natural sugarcane! Only three star coins a piece—if it’s not sweet, you don’t pay!”
“Three star coins a piece! Don’t miss it as you pass by!”
Her clear voice quickly attracted attention.
An elderly woman holding a child walked over.
She glanced at the sugarcane in the basin.
It was cleanly processed and a creamy yellow color—clearly very sweet.
“Is this really natural sugarcane?” she asked.
“Absolutely genuine! You’ll know as soon as you taste it! Auntie, take a small piece to try. If it’s not natural or not sweet, I won’t charge you!”
“And the little one can try too.”
As she spoke, Su Yue used a plastic-wrapped hand to hand a small sample to the child.
The elderly woman tried to stop it, but the child had already taken it.
“Yum! Grandma, I want sugarcane!” the child said excitedly after tasting it.
The woman frowned at her grandson.
Then she looked at the sample Su Yue handed her and took a bite.
The moment it entered her mouth, her eyes lit up.
“It really is natural sugarcane,” she muttered.
Then she looked at the basin.
“Three star coins each, right? Give me ten—no, twenty pieces!”
“If I buy twenty, how about fifty star coins?” Fresh fruit was rare in Boundless City, and at this size, three star coins per piece wasn’t expensive.
Su Yue’s smile stiffened.
“That’s a bit too low. Auntie, you see, fresh natural sugarcane isn’t cheap to source…”
“Then fifty-four star coins!” the woman said.
“I’m buying so much—you have to give me some discount, right? If not, I won’t buy.”
The child tugged at her again.
“Grandma, I want sugarcane!”
The woman pulled him aside.
“Eat, eat, eat! All you think about is eating! Something this expensive isn’t for everyday!”
Su Yue knew those words were meant for her.
She sighed and put on a reluctant expression.
“How about this—pay sixty star coins, and I’ll give the child two extra pieces?”
The woman’s face instantly brightened.
“Deal!”
Su Yue smiled at the child, then turned to count out the sugarcane pieces into the basin.
Twenty pieces were quickly counted.
Then, in front of the woman, she added two extra pieces.
