Vоlumе 1 Chaрtеr 6: Тhе Undеrgarment Is Tоо Small
Thе next dау.
Тhе sсоrching sun wаs nеаrlу at its zenith whеn a faint, low sobbing sоund bеgan, grоwing lоudеr аnd lоuder.
Yun Jiао furrоwed her brоws аnd finallу openеd her еyes amidst thе wailing.
Оutside thе dоor, Chu Yi hаd rushed back, but it wаs аlrеаdy toо lаtе.
Сhu Er was сrying аt the toр of his lungs, wiping his tеars with his sleеve as he sоbbеd, “Wаh wah, Маster, wah wah!”
Сhu Yi’s brow twitсhеd, and he instinсtively rеaсhеd оut to сover Сhu Er’s mouth, but this timе, hе сouldn’t hold him back.
Chu Er had waitеd аll morning. In the past, his mаstеr would have bееn up long ago, but now it was almost time for lunch, and his master still hadn’t risen. He must have been pushed to his limit.
His master’s body was so frail—how could the Princess Consort torment him all night!
Not to mention a concubine, his master hadn’t even been in contact with a living female creature.
His poor master, wah wah.
Breaking free from Chu Yi, Chu Er took a deep breath, steeled himself as if marching to his death, and raised his foot to charge into the room.
“Chu Er, if you don’t shut up now, you won’t need to shut up ever again.”
A hoarse, drowsy voice suddenly rang out from inside the room.
Chu Er immediately stopped crying, frozen in place.
Chu Yi walked directly behind him, slipped his hands under his armpits, and dragged him away.
Yan Shi rubbed his temples in annoyance, slowly sitting up and continuing to massage his forehead.
His ink-black hair cascaded like a waterfall, and the tassel on his earlobe swayed, the bell suddenly tinkling.
The next second.
Yun Jiao’s slender neck was seized in a death grip, the gaze fixed on her filled with unrestrained ferocity.
Yun Jiao was so startled she hadn’t even reacted before the pressure on her throat forced a cough from her, her eyes instantly reddening.
Yan Shi abruptly withdrew his hand, leaving a glaring red mark on her fair neck.
His brows furrowed slightly, a sudden wave of inexplicable irritation washing over him.
It seemed he hadn’t slept this deeply in a long time, let alone with someone lying beside him. The instinct for self-defense had long been ingrained in his bones.
Staring at the crimson mark, Yan Shi narrowed his eyes and reached out to touch it.
Before his hand could reach her, a small figure crashed into his embrace.
Yun Jiao clutched his clothes, feeling aggrieved.
Looking up at him with tearful eyes, she cried, “Prince, you tried to kill me again!”
“We already drank the wedding blood and made the Blood Oath, yet you still don’t believe me. You said you believed me.”
“Prince, you’re a liar, wah wah!”
The more Yun Jiao spoke, the more wronged she felt, especially as she reached the end. A stream of tears spilled from the corner of her eye, dampening half her face, followed by increasingly fierce sobs.
The drop of wetness on his chest made Yan Shi’s spine stiffen, his entire body freezing, before a dense, damp sensation spread across it.
A few low sobs echoed against his chest.
Yan Shi’s lips moved slightly, his brows tightly knit.
He couldn’t remember the last time he had offered an explanation.
No matter what he said, no one ever believed him, and the outcome never changed.
Since then, he had never explained himself again, nor did he care to.
Yan Shi couldn’t bear such a gaze—it was too pure, too endearing.
After a moment of contemplation, the person in his arms showed no sign of stopping.
Yan Shi raised a hand, wrapped it around her, and gently stroked the top of her head, pressing her face against his chest.
He spoke softly, “Is this okay?”
“Huh?”
Yun Jiao was stunned, looking up at him in disbelief. Her tear-filled eyes lifted from his chest, gazing at him pleadingly.
—Trying to kill me again.—Is that okay?
Is that even human language?
“No!”
Yun Jiao slipped out of his embrace in a flash, retreating to the farthest spot from him, shrinking her neck as she looked at him warily.
Finally, she didn’t forget to forcefully hold back the tears that were about to spill.
Yan Shi sighed, not feeling disappointed either. If it’s not okay, then it’s not okay.
As long as she stops crying.
Out of the corner of his eye, he caught sight of the clothes in front of him—disheveled and damp. This crying had actually soaked a large part of his clothes.
His eyes lazily lifted to look at her again. Under the sunlight, those brown pupils were exceptionally beautiful, and the words he spoke were equally beautiful.
He said, “Your tears are so abundant, they’ve soaked my clothes.”
Yun Jiao’s face visibly flushed red at once, and she even forgot to hold back the tears glistening in her eyes.
Hmm?
Confusing, but interesting.
Yan Shi leaned in closer, so close that their noses were almost touching. He raised his hand to wipe away the moisture on her eyelashes. “You’re blushing. Why?”
Just a moment ago, she looked like she was crying pitifully, but now she seemed shy?
“You…”
Yun Jiao’s face flushed even redder. Just as she was thinking about where to hide, Chu Yi’s voice suddenly sounded from outside the door.
“Master, today I bought a few maidservants and had them prepare several sets of clothes for the Princess Consort. I’ve already placed them at the door.”
Yun Jiao looked as if she had been saved. She truly couldn’t understand how someone who, on a whim, would find ways to torment others, who liked blood and even killing, could be so innocent.
No wonder he could misinterpret the sentence as “sleep with him.”
“Prince, I need to change clothes.”
After saying this, Yun Jiao scrambled to her feet using both hands and feet, but she didn’t notice that the clothes she was wearing were much too long.
Yan Shi was nearly 1.9 meters tall, and his clothes on her were a whole section longer.
And so.
As soon as she stood up and tried to step forward, she slipped and fell before she could even take a step.
“Ah—”
Slipping isn’t embarrassing; what’s embarrassing is slipping and knocking someone over.
With a muffled thud from Yan Shi, Yun Jiao lay sprawled on top of him, their eyes meeting.
Yun Jiao glanced at the spot dampened by her tears, and Yan Shi’s words immediately echoed in her ears. Her already red earlobes instantly burned with heat.
Yan Shi blinked very slowly, even slowing his breathing by half a beat, as if concentrating intently.
After a while.
His eyes curved, as if he had discovered something amusing.
Yun Jiao had a feeling it wasn’t anything good. Before she could figure it out, Yan Shi’s hand rested over her chest.
Yan Shi smiled, his eyes curving.
“Your heartbeat has quickened. It’s beating against This Prince.”
“Ah—!”
Twice in a row, a sharp cry escaped her. Yun Jiao rolled off the bed, opened the door, and ran out.
Yan Shi propped himself up on the bed, staring at his palm in a daze.
Her chest was so soft.
A slight curve lifted the corner of his lips. It was the first time he had encountered someone so interesting and unpredictable—so unpredictable that he couldn’t even guess her reactions.
Surprisingly endearing, extremely so.
Yan Shi slowly rose, barefoot on the carpet. After washing up, he turned and saw the clothes placed at the door, pausing in his steps.
After thinking for two seconds, he walked over and picked them up.
Ink-wash black, smoky red, sky blue—all exceptionally beautiful colors.
Suddenly, a small piece of clothing fell out.
Slender, pale fingers lifted it—a pink undergarment.
Yan Shi lowered his gaze, quietly examining it for a few seconds. His eyes narrowed as he recalled Yun Jiao lying on top of him. Then, he placed his palm over it to measure.
“Hmm, too small.”
