Ever since he first came to this world, the number of times Felix had come across a Fairy could probably be counted on a single hand, showing just how rare it was to encounter them.
Not to mention, the Fairies seemed to be on the verge of extinction, as they were often always alone or few in number whenever he came across them.
The fact that they were extremely weak beings, incapable of defending themselves, didn’t really help matters, as they often tended to get easily overpowered by other races. Coining them the title- The Weakest Race Alive.
‘Is this the world’s way of jabbing at me?’
A dry laugh escaped him at the thought. After all, what better way to prove he was the weakest human alive than by having a Class mostly related to the weakest Race alive?
Though for how much longer their Race would remain in existence with how few and weak they were, Felix wasn’t really sure. Making him wonder if, at some point, he might never even be able to find a Fairy again.
*TINKER!!*
Snapping out of his daze as he was drawn by the desperate metallic sounds the Fairy made, Felix finally registered the sight before him.
Trapped in the embrace of a small, round gelatinous creature, the Fairy tried to break free from its sticky, jellylike body that held firmly against her own.
Taking a moment to recognize the creature assaulting the Fairy, Felix quickly realized it was merely a Forest Slime. One of the weakest kinds of Slime in this world. Yet, the Fairy had still fallen prey to it.
Its translucent, gelatinous body appeared more like some sort of spherical, mildly deflated ball left on the ground for too long. A small, thick core visible through its translucent membrane as light passed through its jellylike body.
The Fairy, having most of her body already entrapped within the Forest Slime’s membrane as it began attempting to digest her upon completely immobilizing her, left only with her head exposed as she desperately gasped for air, struggled to break free. But the Slime’s membrane possessed far greater viscosity than what she was capable of escaping from.
Drawing closer to the scene, Felix quickly grabbed the Slime.
Pulling gently as he held it in place, Felix carefully pried the Fairy away from the Slime’s deadly embrace, ensuring he wasn’t too forceful as to not accidentally rip off her legs or some other body part, like a broken doll, while trying to free her from it.
Finally managing to free her from the Slime, Felix gently placed her on a small rock close by after ensuring he hadn’t accidentally hurt her while trying to free her.
Separated from its prey, the Slime’s gelatinous body bubbled up in rage at the loss of the prey it had meticulously caught in its bodily trap, hoping to simply digest it and evolve into a higher Grade.
Enraged, the Slime immediately lunged at Felix’s face, spreading its jellylike membrane over his head as it latched onto him, as though trying to suffocate him to death.
‘Shit!’
Refusing to yield despite Felix’s desperate attempts to free himself from its grip, the Slime clung fiercely to his face.
Its slimy gelatinous body made it hard to get a solid grip on it, simply slipping from his grasp at every attempt. His pathetic Stats not really helping him pry himself free from the Slime’s assault.
‘Is this how it ends? Death by a fricking Slime after surviving an encounter with a Grade-7 Monster?’
Refusing to accept this, Felix decided on another approach upon seeing his attempts to grab it were ineffective.
Equipping his knife from the sheath, Felix tightened his grip as he began stabbing at the Slime’s core.
Ensuring he didn’t accidentally harm himself in the process, Felix kept stabbing over and over at the core till a crack eventually emerged in it.
Unyielding, even as his vision slowly began to blur around the edges due to lack of oxygen, Felix continued his relentless assault against the Slime’s core till it finally crumbled.
Resulting in the Slime’s gelatinous body losing its viscosity as it slowly drooped to the ground soon after.
Gasping audibly for air upon finally freeing himself from the Forest Slime’s grip of death, Felix took in faint, laboured breaths after briefly watching his life flash before his eyes, realizing that Slimes might actually be more dangerous than he initially gave them credit for.
Though a large reason for this had to do with his extremely low Personal Stats.
Secretly hoping for a notification to appear upon killing the Forest Slime, Felix wasn’t too surprised when none appeared, despite waiting for a while after killing it.
After all, he’d already been here for nearly two years, yet he’d never received a reward for killing anything before, till recently.
Still, he’d been hoping that maybe he’d be able to receive rewards regardless of the Grade of the Monster now that he’d gotten his first one by aiding in the defeat of a Grade-7 Monster.
‘A guy can dream, right?’
Sighing in resignation, Felix diverted his attention to the Fairy he’d just saved, and nearly lost his life to a Slime for, only to realize she was now hiding from him in fear.
Hiding behind a flower stem, she occasionally peeked at him through it as she did.
Seeing her like this, he tried reaching his hand toward her, only to stop upon seeing her flinch at the gesture.
Noticing this, Felix recalled that most people couldn’t really see a Fairy in detail, much less hear the sounds they made. Simply perceiving them as tiny balls of floating light and hearing nothing at all, not even the tinkling sounds he heard from them.
‘This is most likely due to my Class being a Faymancer.’
Accepting this to be the case, as he’d never heard of anyone else capable of understanding or seeing what a Fairy really looked like, with most simply describing them as annoying floating balls of light, Felix returned his attention to the Fairy.
Taking in the sight before him, Felix observed her properly.
Standing barely 8cm tall, with even the flower she hid behind easily towering over her, the Fairy wore a tiny light-green dress, seemingly torn and riddled with holes from nearly being digested by the Forest Slime.
Short blonde hair accentuated her vibrant green eyes, which had a way of pulling one in.
As well as a pair of teal translucent wings, currently wet alongside the rest of her dress and hair that lightly stuck to her face from the Slime’s digestive fluids.
Her overall appearance gave an entirely new meaning to otherworldly beauty, as her beauty far surpassed that of any human he’d ever come across.
‘Wow! I guess they don’t call them Fairies for nothing.’
Realizing their extraordinary beauty likely played a part in their naming, Felix’s attention was soon drawn to the slight patches of blood on the bruises across her arms and legs.
‘She’s hurt.’
With the thought in mind, he tried getting a closer look at her, but she instinctively flinched in fear, completely hiding behind the flower stem now.
Causing another thought to surface in Felix’s mind at his current situation.
‘How do I get her to trust me without scaring her off?’
