The northwest wind howled fiercely, and the air seemed to freeze in an instant.

Su Wei felt as if she had been struck by a Freezing Spell—her body was stiff, and her neck seemed rusted solid, unable to turn no matter how hard she tried. She could distinctly feel every fine hair on her body standing on end…

To Su Wei in this moment, Shen Yan was like a vengeful ghost emerging from the depths of hell, coldly staring at her…Full novel: Farming and Losing My Mind on the Side, I Feed My Husband Poison — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

The northwest wind cut through to the bone, the chill seeming to pierce through flesh and seep into the marrow.

After what felt like an eternity, Su Wei finally snapped out of it and bolted back into the house.

But Shen Yan stared at the locked door, running his tongue along the inside of his cheek.

What was that venomous woman trying to do? Lock him up to starve or freeze to death?

But if she wanted to starve him, why had she given him food?

If she wanted to freeze him, she had given him a blanket yesterday.

Shen Yan couldn't figure it out, so he simply stopped trying.

Meanwhile, Su Wei slammed the door shut and shoved a table against it. After doing all this, she stared at the door, gasping for breath, imagining the grim-faced Shen Yan standing right outside, ready to come in and kill her at any moment…

When a person is terrified, time moves agonizingly slowly. And just then, the lamp that had been lit suddenly went out…

"Thud…"

Shen Yan heard a loud crash coming from the venomous woman's room, but he had no mood to go check. Whatever happened to her was none of his business.

He leaned against the wall, knocking his head against it again and again, the painful memories replaying in his mind over and over.

After who knows how long, he stopped moving, his head lowered as if deep in thought.

Su Wei spent the entire night on edge, too afraid to sleep, only dozing off in the latter half of the night. When she woke up, it was already broad daylight. She estimated it was close to noon.

She stepped outside, feeling listless.

Because of the wind that had blown all night, the sky outside was a deep, clear blue—cloudless and bright with sunshine.

The beautiful weather dispelled much of Su Wei's gloom, but the loneliness of never being able to return, and the unease of being stuck in this unfamiliar place, still left her restless and irritable.

She sat on the small stool by the stove, inhaling the fragrance of cooking rice as she mulled things over.

Shen Yan was a ticking time bomb…

She couldn't keep going on like this…

She needed to think of a way to stabilize him first.

With that thought, Su Wei glanced toward the west room.

The door was still locked…

Su Wei: "…"

She knew she had forgotten something…

She stood up, about to go open the door, when the next second she felt an itch on her hand. She looked down and saw a shiny centipede the size of her thumb crawling on her hand—it had somehow gotten on her without her noticing and was now racing up her arm at full speed…

"AHHHHHHHHHHH…"

"AHHHHHHHHHHHHH…"

"AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH…"

Shen Yan was irritated by the noise and couldn't take it anymore. He pushed open the window, and the old, dilapidated frame crashed to the ground with a clatter. He glanced at it, then looked up at the courtyard, only to see Su Wei charging out of the kitchen, her chest bouncing wildly. When she spotted him, she ran over without a moment's hesitation, leaped through the broken window into the room, and collapsed headfirst onto him. She wrapped her arms around his neck and pressed her head against his chest…

Shen Yan: "…"

That venomous woman must want to die…

"Get… off me…"

Su Wei was jolted back to reality by that icy, fury-laced voice. Realizing what had just happened, she scrambled off Shen Yan in a hurry.

She tugged at the torn clothes on his chest, trying to smooth them back into place, then stood on the ground, cheeks flushed and eyes glistening with tears as she looked at Shen Yan, explaining awkwardly, "Just… just now… there was… a centipede… I was terrified…"

She had no idea whether Shen Yan believed her.

Shen Yan did believe her.

Judging by the venomous woman's reaction just now, she had genuinely been frightened. Besides, she loathed him to the core—how could she possibly have initiated a hug on her own…

But he said nothing.

Su Wei assumed he didn't believe her.
