The police raid had hit like a sudden storm, churning up the dockside night before passing just as quickly.

For the Toretto family and their friends, it was just another routine interruption of street life.

As long as everyone made it out, it was cause for celebration.Full novel: Fast & Furious: I Tuned Dom’s Charger and Stole His Sister — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

Two nights later, the Toretto Garage’s backyard glowed again with warm string lights.

The smell of grilled meat mixed with the malty scent of beer, hanging thick in the air.

This party felt different from the last.

Less cautious probing, more easy acceptance born from having weathered a crisis together.

Dom and Brian had returned unharmed.

The details were sparse, but Brian’s “quick thinking” in finding an escape route had clearly earned him Dom’s initial, guarded trust.

He sat in a corner chair now, fielding Jesse’s rapid-fire questions about the police chase, a slightly shy smile on his face as he settled into the new environment.

But the other center of attention tonight was Jake.

When he walked into the backyard with Mia, nearly every eye turned to him.

Vince still wore his usual scowl, but the hostility and dismissiveness in his gaze had largely faded, replaced by the grudging respect one gives to undeniable skill.

He raised his beer can across the yard, a silent acknowledgment.

Jesse bounded over, practically glowing with admiration.

“Jake!

That was insane!

You actually tied with the boss!

The way you took those corners the other night, it was like you’d measured every inch of the track!

How’d you tune that 240?

You gotta teach me!” Jake was a little overwhelmed by the enthusiasm.

He took the cold beer Mia handed him and smiled.

“Just some targeted adjustments based on the car and the track.

Got lucky.” “That wasn’t luck.” Dom’s low voice came from behind.

He walked over carrying two beers, offering one to Jake.

Dressed in a simple black T-shirt, his powerful frame looked like a tower in the dim light, but the lines of his face had softened.

“Your skill matches the car.

And it matches that draw.” Dom met Jake’s eyes, his gaze honest.

“I apologize for before.

You proved yourself.” He raised his bottle.

This was it.

Official acceptance from the family’s head.

Jake felt a quiet stir in his chest.

He raised his bottle and clinked it against Dom’s.

“Thank you, Mr.

Toretto.” “Call me Dom.” Dom took a long pull from his beer, correcting him with finality.

“Dom.” Jake followed suit.

“You’re one of us now,” Mia said beside him, her voice bright with happiness.

Everyone saw it.

The meaning was unmistakable.

Jake, the mysterious tuner who’d appeared out of nowhere, had just been welcomed into the family’s core.

Letty walked over, clapping Jake on the shoulder with a grin.

“Good work, kid.

Thanks for getting Mia out of there that night.” Her smile was warm, carrying the approval of the crew’s den mother.

Mia stood beside Jake, watching him talk and laugh with her brother and her family.

The sight of him being genuinely accepted made her smile brighten, a quiet pride swelling in her chest.

The party rolled on in easy rhythm.

The music shifted to funk with a heavier beat.

Vince started attempting to dance in the open space, drawing merciless teasing from Letty.

Jesse kept peppering Jake with technical questions.

Brian joined in occasionally, friendly and casual, but Jake could feel the undercurrent of observation beneath his easy demeanor.

Jake didn’t let himself get too comfortable.

He pitched in where he could: helping Dom watch the grill, hauling a new case of drinks for Letty.

Natural, effortless.

No harm in staying on the future brother-in-law’s good side.

Mia’s eyes followed him.

She watched his quiet competence, the way he moved through the chaos with an easy grace, somehow fitting perfectly despite the noise around him.

He’s always like this.

Never showing off, but always making you feel safe.

Whether it’s tuning a car, handling danger, or just being at a party…

he has this way of making you want to lean on him.

She didn’t realize it, but when a woman starts noticing those things, she’s already falling.

She grabbed two fresh beers and walked over to Jake, who was adjusting the grill’s coals.

“Here.

For our MVP and best support staff.” She handed him a bottle, a smile playing on her lips.

Jake took it, his fingers brushing hers.

They both paused.

A faint current seemed to pass between them.

“Thanks.” He looked at her face, softened by the warm glow of the string lights, and spoke quietly.

They leaned against the workbench together, watching the lively scene in the yard.

A cool breeze stirred Mia’s hair across her forehead.

“That night…

thank you.” Mia stared ahead, her voice soft.

“I was scared.

But when I saw your car, I felt safe.” “I told Dom I’d get you out,” Jake said.

But his tone carried more than just duty.

Mia turned to face him fully, her eyes meeting his.

“Only because my brother asked?” Her gaze was bold.

Direct.

That signature Toretto honesty, mixed with a woman’s sensitivity and quiet hope.

Jake met her stare without flinching.

The party lights flickered in his dark eyes, like stars caught in a pool.

He was silent for a long moment.

Then, slowly, his voice dropped lower, softer.

“No.

Because it was you.” The words hit Mia like a hammer to the chest.

Her cheeks flushed pink.

Her heartbeat quickened.

A sweet, electric thrill spread through her chest.

She didn’t press further.

She just ducked her head, a shy, delighted smile curving her lips.

She tapped her bottle gently against his, a soft clink.

“Cheers,” she whispered.

“Cheers,” he replied, his gaze still on her.

The noise of the party seemed to fade.

All that remained was the unspoken, simmering warmth between them.

They stood close, arms nearly touching, feeling each other’s heat.

Across the yard, Brian watched the scene from a distance.

He took a long drink of his beer, his expression complicated.

He could see the special light in Mia’s eyes when she looked at Jake.

Somehow, he felt he’d missed out on something important.

The party wound down late.

Brian left with Jesse and the others.

Vince was poured into a car by Letty, too drunk to walk straight.

Dom and Letty stayed to clean up.

Jake and Mia stood outside the shop.

The street was quiet now.

“Walk you home?” Jake offered.

“Don’t bother.

It’s just a few steps.” Mia nodded toward the nearby house.

But she didn’t leave immediately.

She hesitated for just a second, then rose on her toes and pressed a quick, soft kiss to his cheek.

The touch was fleeting.

Her lips were cool from the beer, carrying the faint scent of her perfume.

“Goodnight, Jake.” Her face was flushed like sunset.

Before he could react, she turned and jogged away, disappearing into the night.

Jake stood frozen.

The light pressure on his cheek lingered.

He raised his hand and touched the spot, watching the direction she’d vanished in.

After a long moment, a slow, clear smile spread across his face.
