Johnny Tran’s release hung over everyone like a lead weight.

The garage lost its easy rhythm.

A quiet tension took its place.Full novel: Fast & Furious: I Tuned Dom’s Charger and Stole His Sister — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

Everyone knew Johnny wasn’t the type to let things slide.

What was coming, you couldn’t outrun.

The next afternoon, a pack of tricked-out Hondas screamed up to the shop, engines roaring, brakes squealing.

They blocked the entrance like a wall.

Scissor doors flipped open.

Johnny Tran stepped out first, in an even louder Hawaiian shirt, sunglasses on, a toothpick between his teeth.

That twisted grin was back: anger and mockery tangled together.

His cousin Lance and a handful of mean-looking thugs followed close behind, swaggering through the front door like they owned the place.

The music cut off.

Dom was inside with Jake, talking engine builds.

Letty and Mia were up front with paperwork.

Vince and Jesse were deep in the repair bay.

The second Johnny’s crew stormed in, every hand froze.

Every muscle went tight.

Vince dropped his wrench, ready to charge.

Letty’s glare pinned him in place.

Dom walked out slow.

Steady as stone.

His face was blank, but his eyes burned like frozen lakes, sharp enough to cut.

He locked on the intruders.

Jake followed half a step behind, scanning Johnny’s crew.

Counting.

Assessing.

“Tran.

You’re not welcome here.” Dom’s voice was low.

Final.

“Not welcome?” Johnny laughed, pulling off his shades.

His eyes swept the garage and landed on Dom.

“Dominic.

I underestimated you.

Playing dirty?

Calling the cops on me?” He stepped closer, voice rising into a venomous snarl.

“You think that brings me down?

Who the hell do you think you are?!” Dom’s jaw tightened.

He held the rage back.

“I don’t know what you’re talking about.” “Don’t play dumb.” Johnny spread his arms wide, laughing at his own crew.

“How else would the cops know my route?

My timing?

Who else wants me dead that bad?

Who else knows my business that well?” He jabbed a finger at Dom’s chest.

“You tipped them off, didn’t you?

You rat bastard!

Working with cops!” Jake’s eyes narrowed.

(Oh.

He just lit the fuse.

Doesn’t he know Dom’s one trigger word is “cop”?) He mentally gave Johnny a second of silence.

The effect was instant.

“Cop” hit Dom like a detonator.

Dom’s pupils shrank.

Every muscle in his face went rigid.

Those frozen eyes erupted into something feral and raw.

Johnny had touched the one scar that never healed.

Betrayal.

Injustice.

The loss of family.

For Dom, “cop” wasn’t just a word.

It was a wound.

“Say that again.” Dom’s voice came out like an animal’s growl.

His massive frame trembled with rage.

Fists clenched so hard his knuckles cracked.

He stepped forward, nose to nose with Johnny.

The sheer force of his presence made Johnny’s men flinch.

Johnny faltered for half a second, then his face flushed with spite.

“What’s wrong?

Hit a nerve?

You Dominic Toretto are just a cop-loving—” He didn’t finish.

Dom grabbed Johnny’s shirt and yanked him off the ground.

“Dom!” Letty shouted, trying to pull him back.

Johnny’s men surged forward.

Vince and Jesse met them.

Shoving.

Swearing.

The garage turned into a powder keg about to blow.

Jake moved fast, stepping in front of Mia.

His eyes stayed cold and calculating, scanning for the fastest way to shut it down.

(Good thing Brian’s not here.

That would’ve been awkward.

And dangerous.) “Let go of my cousin!” Lance shrieked, pulling a switchblade.

The blade gleamed cold under the fluorescent lights.

Vince grabbed a heavy crowbar.

The air went razor-thin.

Time to step in.

Jake’s voice cut through the chaos.

Not loud.

But it carried.

“Mr.

Tran.” He locked eyes with Johnny, still dangling in Dom’s grip, his face purple.

“If you have evidence, take it to the police.

Shouting accusations here, pulling knives—that won’t solve anything.

It’ll only make things worse.” His tone was calm.

Coldly rational.

A stark contrast to the storm around him.

“Or did you come here planning to start something you can’t finish?

Right here.

In front of everyone.” Johnny’s gaze flicked from Dom’s murderous face to Vince’s crowbar, to Jake’s unnervingly steady eyes.

He was freshly out of jail.

Another brawl meant more trouble.

His jaw worked.

The fury warred with self-preservation.

Finally, the latter won.

Dom held him another second.

Then he let go, shoving Johnny back.

Hard.

“Get out.” Dom’s voice was ice.

A final warning.

“Come back, and you won’t leave walking.” Johnny straightened his crumpled shirt, shooting Dom and Jake a look that promised blood.

He jerked his head at his crew.

They slunk out, engines roaring like wounded dogs, and vanished.

The shop went silent.

But the tension didn’t leave.

Dom stood still, chest heaving.

“Cop” had cut him deep.

It always would.

Jake watched his back.

Rigid.

Wounded.

He knew the truth.

The real storm hadn’t even started.
