The helicopter’s rotors faded into the desert dusk, carrying Vince and the wreckage of the night away.

Brian stood alone, sand settling around him.

Only the truck’s escape tracks remained.Full novel: Fast & Furious: I Tuned Dom’s Charger and Stole His Sister — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

The cold in his chest wasn’t from the desert wind.

It was from the trust he’d shattered.

He didn’t linger.

He climbed into his Eclipse and followed the road back to the Toretto garage.

A storm was waiting.

He had to face it.

By the time he pulled up to the familiar shop, night had fallen.

The garage doors were shut.

No party lights.

No music.

Just a heavy, suffocating silence.

Only the living quarters glowed faintly in the back.

Brian took a breath and knocked.

No answer.

He tried the door.

It was unlocked.

Inside, the air was thick enough to choke on.

Dom sat on the old couch, head down, his frame a mountain of shadow.

A bottle of Corona sat empty in his grip, his knuckles white.

Letty stood by the window, arms crossed, face carved from stone.

Jake sat apart, silent.

Mia was pressed against him, her face a storm of fear and grief.

When Brian stepped in, Letty’s head snapped toward him.

Her eyes cut like glass.

Dom didn’t even look up.

“Dom…” Brian’s voice was dry.

“This isn’t a place for cops.” Dom’s voice was low and hollow, drained of warmth.

“I know I don’t deserve forgiveness.” Brian stepped closer, forcing himself to meet the silence.

“But I’m not here as a cop.

How’s Vince?

Any word?” “Lost a lot of blood.” Letty’s answer was flat, cold.

“He’ll live.

Thanks to you, Detective.” She bit out the title like poison.

Brian flinched but pushed on.

“Dom, I know you’re angry.

But you can’t act rashly.

Johnny Tran won’t let this go.

And the cops—they’ll be watching closer now.

You need to lay low.” “Lay low?” Dom’s head lifted.

His eyes were bloodshot, burning with anger and betrayal.

“My family is hurt.

Vince is out.

And you tell me to lay low?” He crushed the empty bottle in his fist.

Glass cracked.

“I’m not here to attack you!” Brian’s voice rose.

“I’m here to help!

You can’t fight Johnny alone.

And if the police come, what then?

You can’t win this!” “Help?” Dom rose, his massive frame closing the gap.

His voice dropped to a growl.

“You lied to me.

To Mia.

To all of us.

You wormed your way into my home with lies.

And now you want to help?

Save your cop speeches.” “I was investigating truck hijackings!

I never meant for it to go this far!” Brian’s voice cracked under the weight.

“What I feel about this family… about you—” “This isn’t your family!” Dom roared, pointing at the door.

“Get out!

Before I make you!” Tension hit its peak.

Then— A weak, familiar engine sputtered outside.

The sound of a Honda.

Jesse’s car.

The door creaked open.

Jesse stepped in.

He was a wreck.

Clothes torn, face streaked with sand and dried blood.

Hollow eyes.

His whole body trembled.

He looked at Dom, then at the rest of them, and his face crumpled.

“Dom… Letty… I… I came back…” His voice was barely a whisper.

The room’s focus shifted instantly.

Brian became invisible.

Dom stared at Jesse.

The fury in his eyes warred with exhaustion.

Relief.

Disgust.

Love.

All of it tangled together.

Jesse collapsed to his knees.

“I’m sorry!

I’m so sorry, Dom!

I shouldn’t have run!

I shouldn’t have bet the car!

I was just so scared… I’m sorry…” His sobs filled the silence.

Brian watched from the edge of the room.

He was already outside the circle.

Dom let out a long, slow breath.

He raised a hand, pressing it to his face.

He didn’t speak.

Didn’t look at Brian.

The storm had passed.

But the cracks ran deep.

And the road ahead would cut them all.
