The shift back to school life wasn’t loud.

It didn’t announce itself.

It just… settled in.Full novel: FINDING UNTIL FOUND — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

The trip ended, the city changed, and suddenly everything became smaller again—classrooms, hallways, desks filled with notes and deadlines.

Final exams were approaching, and the air itself felt tighter, filled with quiet stress and unspoken pressure.

Everyone was different now.

Not in obvious ways.

But enough.

Ana sat in the classroom, her notebook open but untouched for a moment.

Around her, pages flipped, pens moved quickly, whispers of formulas and last-minute revisions filled the space.

Ed was two seats ahead, leaning back slightly, pretending not to care—but the way he kept rereading the same page said otherwise.

Kel sat by the window, focused, quieter than before but steady.

No more distractions.

No more hesitation.

And Yeon— Yeon wasn’t there.

Again.

Ana noticed it this time.

Not as an absence.

But as a pattern.

That evening, instead of going straight home, Ana changed direction.

The address was simple.

A small part-time café job—something she had helped Yeon find weeks ago without thinking much of it.

Now— she wanted to understand.

The bell above the café door rang softly as she stepped inside.

It was small.

Warm.

Slightly worn at the edges—but alive.

And behind the counter— Yeon.

She was moving quickly, carrying trays, taking orders, smiling at customers—not the carefree smile Ana was used to, but one that was practiced.

Controlled.

Working.

Ana didn’t call out immediately.

She just watched.

And for the first time— she saw it.

Not Yeon as her friend.

But Yeon was someone carrying something heavier than she ever showed.

Later, when the shift ended, Yeon stepped outside, stretching her arms slightly, exhaustion slipping through now that no one was watching.

She froze when she saw Ana.

“…You’ve been here a long?” she asked.

Ana shook her head.

“Long enough.” Yeon looked away briefly, a little embarrassed.

“You didn’t have to come.” “I wanted to,” Ana replied.

A pause.

Then— “Let’s walk,” Ana added.

The streets were quieter at night.

Their footsteps fell into rhythm naturally.

For a while, neither spoke.

Then Ana said, gently: “You didn’t tell me it was this much.” Yeon gave a small laugh—but it didn’t hold.

“It’s just work,” she said.

“Nothing special.” Ana didn’t push immediately.

But she didn’t let it go either.

“You’ve been skipping classes.” Silence.

Yeon’s steps slowed slightly.

“…I’ll catch up,” she muttered.

“That’s not what I meant.” That made Yeon stop.

For a moment, she didn’t turn.

Then slowly— “…What do you want me to say?” she asked quietly.

Ana stepped closer.

“The truth.” A long pause.

Then— Yeon exhaled.

“…My dad drinks,” she said simply.

At first it was taken care of by my sister but….

No buildup.

No drama.

Just a fact.

Ana didn’t interrupt.

“He doesn’t work consistently,” Yeon continued.

“Some days he’s fine.

Some days…” she trailed off slightly.

That was enough.

“I cover what I can,” she added.

“Rent, food… whatever’s needed.” Ana’s expression didn’t change—but something in her eyes softened deeply.

“You’ve been doing this alone?” she asked.

Yeon shrugged lightly.

“I’m used to it now.” That answer wasn’t strong.

It was tiring.

When they reached Yeon’s house, the door was slightly open.

A faint smell of alcohol drifted out.

Yeon hesitated.

Just for a second.

Then pushed the door open.

Inside, her father was slumped on the couch, half-asleep, a bottle loosely held in his hand.

The TV flickered quietly in the background.

Normal.

Too normal for her, Ana stepped in behind her, taking everything in without reacting outwardly.

Yeon moved quickly, gently taking the bottle away, adjusting a blanket over him like this was routine.

Like she had done this a hundred times.

Ana watched.

And understood.

Not fully.

But enough.

Later, outside again, the air felt colder.

Yeon avoided looking at her.

“…You see now,” she said quietly.

“It’s not something worth talking about.” Ana stepped in front of her, stopping her from walking further.

“It is,” she said.

Yeon shook her head.

“No, it’s just—” “It’s your life,” Ana interrupted.

That stopped her.

For a moment, Yeon didn’t speak.

Then her voice came out softer than before.

“…I didn’t want you to look at me differently.” Ana’s answer came immediately.

“I don’t.” Yeon looked up.

Ana’s expression was steady.

Certain.

“If anything,” she added, “I understand you more now.” Something in Yeon’s eyes shifted.

Not breaking.

Not collapsing.

Just… opening slightly.

“I thought…” Yeon started, then stopped.

“What?” Ana asked.

Yeon hesitated.

Then, very quietly: “I thought I had to handle everything alone.” Ana didn’t say anything for a second.

Then she stepped closer.

Not dramatic.

Not overwhelming.

Just enough.

“You don’t,” she said.

Simple.

Clear.

Real.

Yeon’s eyes stung slightly—but she didn’t cry.

Instead, she let out a small, uneven breath.

“…You sound like my sister,” she said, almost joking.

Ana didn’t smile.

She Thinking about Yeonjoo But her voice softened.

“Then treat me like one.” That— broke something.

Not painfully.

But gently.

Yeon looked away quickly, blinking a few times before letting out a quiet laugh.

“…You’re really serious, huh?” “Yes.” A pause.

Then Yeon nodded.

Slowly.

“…Okay.” And for the first time— it didn’t feel like she was standing alone anymore.

Far away, exam pressure still waited.

Life hadn’t become easier.

Nothing had been magically fixed.

But something had changed.

Not circumstances.

Connection.

And sometimes— that was the part that mattered most
