Lin Xiwei was frantically searching for her son and didn’t even notice the person standing beside her.
Qin Jiamo felt the gust of wind brush across his face as the woman ran past. His brow furrowed slightly as he unconsciously turned to glance back.
It was a tall, slender, beautiful figure.
But he was never short of women like that.
Han Rui also looked at the woman’s retreating figure. “Looks like that kid’s mother came looking for him. Pretty good-looking.”
Qin Jiamo said nothing and turned to step into the elevator.
As the elevator descended, Qin Jiamo said in a low voice to his assistant, “Cancel tomorrow morning’s schedule. I need to go to the fire station to pick up Yue Lang’s belongings.”
Han Rui nodded. “Got it.”
After his younger brother’s death, the entire Qin family had been consumed by grief and hadn’t yet had time to collect the belongings from his brother’s workplace.
Thinking about what he would have to face tomorrow, the cold and resolute eldest son of the Qin family silently reddened at the eyes.
“Junjun, you scared Mommy to death. Don’t run off like that again, okay? Mommy worries.” Lin Xiwei found her son and crouched down to hug him tightly.
Su Chengjun pouted his little lips and said guiltily, “I’m sorry, Mommy. I came out to look for you, but the hospital was too big, and I got lost…”
“Mm, Mommy knows.”
Lin Xiwei nodded, kissed her son, and scooped him up in her arms, thanking Director Yan profusely.
Director Yan quietly observed Lin Xiwei, struck by her extraordinarily beautiful and moving face.
“Ma’am, if I may ask—are you here to visit a patient or to be admitted?” Director Yan couldn’t contain his curiosity and struck up a conversation.
“To be admitted,” Lin Xiwei said with a hint of polite reserve.
“Ah… which department?”
“Hematology.”
After answering, Lin Xiwei glanced at his name badge and, seeing he was a chief physician, couldn’t help but feel a sense of respect.
“Why are you asking all this?” she asked curiously in return.
Director Yan smiled. “Nothing much. I just think this kid is adorable and couldn’t help but want to check in.”
With that, he reached out and patted Xiao Junjun’s head. “Little one, I wish you a speedy recovery.”
“Thank you, Doctor Uncle. I also wish you smooth work ahead.”
Su Chengjun answered without even needing his mother’s prompting, showing off his emotional intelligence.
Lin Xiwei said goodbye to Director Yan and turned to leave, carrying her son in her arms.
“Mommy, was that Daddy on the phone just now? Is he coming to keep Junjun company?” The little one wrapped his arms around his mother’s neck and asked in a crisp voice.
The smile at the corner of Lin Xiwei’s lips was especially bitter as she reassured him, “Daddy will come once he’s done with work.”
Behind them, Director Yan heard this and shook his head thoughtfully. “She has a father… so it’s just a coincidence that he looks like him.”
Lin Xiwei had only said that to comfort her son, but who would have thought that not long after they returned to the ward, Su Yunfan actually showed up!
He came with his parents.
“Junjun, I’m sorry. Daddy had something come up last night and got delayed. I’m only now coming to see you.” As soon as Su Yunfan entered, he went straight to his son’s side.
Lin Xiwei’s face was full of anger, but with her son present, she couldn’t easily lose her temper.
Shifting her gaze, she looked at her parents who had entered behind him and stepped forward.
“Mom, didn’t I specifically tell you not to tell him? Why did you bring him along?”
“Alright, stop being angry.” Zhao Xingfen took her daughter’s hand and coaxed, “When a son is sick, the father should be there to accompany him. That’s only natural. How can you keep the son from seeing his father just because you two had a fight?”
Lin Xiwei: “…”
Her father, Lin Zheng’an, also scolded, “Yunfan has been good enough to you. Don’t keep picking fights over every little thing. Men working hard to build a career outside is tough. You need to be gentle and virtuous.”
“That’s right. Look, you don’t even have to work, you have a nanny to help with the kids, and you get seventy or eighty thousand in spending money every month. What a great life.” Zhao Xingfen added.
Lin Xiwei had always known her parents held traditional views. In the past, she could brush off such comments with a few perfunctory words.
But now that Su Yunfan had already cheated and betrayed her, hearing these words again made anger flare up inside her.
“Dad, Mom, I’m your daughter. Why do you always take Su Yunfan’s side?”
“We—”
She didn’t let her parents speak and continued, “And is it my fault that I don’t work? It was Su Yunfan who begged me to quit my job and stay home. If I had kept pushing forward in my career, I wouldn’t be any less accomplished than he is now.”
Lin Xiwei had been a top student since childhood. At twenty-three, she graduated with a master’s degree in computer science and, through her advisor’s introduction, went straight to work at a major tech company.
A year later, she became a project team leader—her future was incredibly promising.
If not for Su Yunfan’s sweet talk and persistent coaxing, she would never have softened in a moment of weakness and left the workforce to be a homemaker.
When she left, both her company’s leadership and her academic advisor were deeply regretful.
But even during these years of being “hidden away” at home, whenever Su Yunfan’s tech company ran into technical problems, she was the one who stepped in to solve them.
She had never been a pretty ornament kept by a man—she had simply willingly given up her spotlight for love.
Seeing their daughter getting worked up, Zhao Xingfen exchanged a glance with her husband. They stopped trying to persuade her and instead soothed, “We know you sacrificed your career for the family. It’s normal to have some resentment now and then. We’ll have Yunfan give you a proper apology later.”
Lin Xiwei’s face turned cold. “It won’t help.”
“Then what do you want?” Lin Zheng’an saw that his daughter was unmoved and hardened his expression. “Don’t tell me you’re actually going to get a divorce?”
“Me get a divorce?” Lin Xiwei looked at her father and couldn’t help but sneer. “Didn’t Su Yunfan tell you why I won’t let him see Junjun?”
“Why?”
Lin Xiwei turned her head to look at the man’s figure by the hospital bed, her gaze icy cold.
“Because—he wants a divorce. His first love came back to the country with her daughter and begged him to take them in.”
“What?” Zhao Xingfen’s voice shot up instantly as she turned to look toward the hospital bed.
There she saw her son-in-law sitting by the bed holding their son, the father and son chatting and laughing together.
“This… that can’t be, right? Is it possible you did something wrong and made Yunfan angry, so he made up a lie to spite you?”
Zhao Xingfen withdrew her gaze and stared at her daughter, her old habit acting up again—she was taking her son-in-law’s side.
“…” Lin Xiwei looked at her parents and suddenly felt there was nothing left to say.
What hurt her more than her husband was her parents’ repeated denial and doubt of her.
From childhood to adulthood, no matter how outstanding she was, how brilliant she shone, she never received a single word of praise from her parents.
Even when she got into a top university and then a prestigious graduate program, with all the neighbors singing her praises endlessly.
Her parents would only say: “The more you study, the dumber you get. All that money spent on education for a girl is wasted—sooner or later you’ll marry someone anyway.”
But for her younger brother, six years her junior, her parents always had nothing but praise. Even though his grades had been at the bottom of the class since childhood, and even if that glutton ballooned to 250 pounds, they’d still say “being able to eat is a blessing.”
Thinking of all this, Lin Xiwei couldn’t help but feel her eyes grow red, the sourness surging in her chest nearly suffocating her.
Su Yunfan was with his son, occasionally glancing back at Lin Xiwei to observe her reaction.
Seeing that the atmosphere among the three Lins had turned tense, he settled his son down and walked over.
“Dad, Mom, could you keep Junjun company for a bit? I’d like to talk to Xiwei alone,” Su Yunfan said in a low voice.
Lin Zheng’an looked at his son-in-law. “Yunfan, Weiwei said you want a divorce?”
Su Yunfan knew he couldn’t avoid it, so he could only nod. “Yes. I can give Xiwei compensation, but Junjun has to come with me.”
Lin Xiwei’s gaze was filled with resentment as she looked at her husband and said directly, “If Junjun had leukemia, would you still want him?”
“What did you say?” Su Yunfan’s face went pale with shock.
