“You’re bargaining with me?” Lin Xiwei laughed in anger, then paused and said, “Fine then, as long as you leave with nothing, I’ll sign the divorce papers immediately.”

“Impossible. Everything in the house was earned by me. Why should I give it all to you?”

“Then there’s nothing to discuss. The child is sick right now—that’s a special circumstance. The court won’t support a divorce, and they might even charge you with abandonment.”Full novel: First Kiss of Marriage — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

“I can divorce you and take the child.” Su Yunfan’s mind worked quickly, and he immediately changed his approach. “You have no source of income and can’t afford to treat the child. The court will side with me.”

“Is that so?” Lin Xiwei didn’t tell him that she’d already found a job. She just let out a cold laugh. “Then go ahead and try. Let’s see who the court actually supports.”

The call ended on bad terms, and Lin Xiwei didn’t get any money.

But she wasn’t worried.

Once she met the famous Lawyer Qin next Monday, she believed she’d find a way to crush that scumbag for good.

At the hospital, the nanny Sister Hong took Xiao Junjun downstairs for a stroll to get some sunshine.

When they came back up and headed to their room, Xiao Junjun ran into a “familiar face” in the elevator.

“Little one, are you feeling any better?” Director Yan spotted him and smiled involuntarily, patting his head with concern.

Su Chengjun shook his little head and said in a soft, sticky voice, “No, my illness is pretty serious.”

Director Yan’s expression stiffened, and he instinctively looked at the nanny. “May I ask what illness your child has?”

Sister Hong held the child’s hand, her face full of heartache. “Leukemia. Just diagnosed.”

Director Yan’s heart skipped a beat. He stared at the child’s face, at a loss for words for a long moment.

The elevator reached their floor, and Su Chengjun raised his hand to wave goodbye. “Goodbye, doctor uncle.”

“Goodbye. Uncle will come visit you when he has time.”

Watching the little boy’s retreating figure, Director Yan let out a helpless sigh. “Such a young child, so smart and adorable. Heaven is truly cruel…”

When he arrived at Old Mrs. Qin’s hospital room, his mood was still heavy.

The old lady was holding a photo of her youngest son, weeping as she looked at it.

Director Yan looked at the photo, and suddenly the image of that little boy surfaced in his mind again. He muttered unconsciously, “That child really looks a lot like the Second Young Master…”

Old Mrs. Qin looked up at him. “What did you say?”

“Oh, it’s like this,” Director Yan snapped back to reality and explained, “I ran into a little boy at the hospital—on this very floor, in the south wing. He looks rather like the Second Young Master.”

Old Mrs. Qin’s hair was silver-white, and her expression was haggard, but at these words, a glimmer of focus sharpened in her eyes.

“You say there’s a child who looks like Yuelang?”

“Yes, he also looks a bit like the eldest young master,” Director Yan studied the photo in the old lady’s hand, then nodded and murmured to himself, “But looking at the photo, I feel he resembles the Second Young Master more…”

The old lady sat in a daze, not yet responding, when Director Yan sighed regretfully again. “What a pity. The Second Young Master was single and never married—didn’t even leave a child behind… Otherwise, you two elders would have something to hold onto.”

That very sentence struck Old Mrs. Qin right in the heart.

The old lady burst into tears instantly, choking out, “My Yuelang was so pitiful, so young, wuwuwu…”

After crying for a moment, the old lady suddenly looked at Director Yan with red-rimmed eyes. “Where is that child? Can you… take me to see him?”

Old Mr. Qin, who was peeling fruit for his wife nearby, quickly cut in. “See him? Are you losing your mind? Don’t scare the child’s parents—they’ll think we’re up to something.”

“I just want to take a look, nothing more… Maybe Yuelang was reborn.”

“You’re truly senile. If he were reborn, he’d be a baby, not a child.” Old Mr. Qin didn’t mince words.

But the old lady was stubborn too, insisting on going to see that little boy.

Director Yan was starting to regret it.

If he’d known this would happen, he shouldn’t have brought it up.

Director Yan tried to dissuade her. “Old lady, that child has leukemia. His family must be worried and anxious. If we barge in out of nowhere…”

“Leukemia? How old is the child?”

“Looks about three years old.”

“How pitiful, still so young.” The old lady sighed after hearing this, and grew even more eager to see the poor little thing. She then promised, “I’ll only look from a distance. I won’t disturb them.”

Director Yan weighed the options and felt that letting her take one look might bring her more comfort than any miracle medicine. It couldn’t hurt.

“Alright then. Let me first look up the little boy’s information and find out which room he’s in.”

Director Yan turned and left.

Old Mrs. Qin stroked the photo of her youngest son, choking back sobs as she murmured, “Yuelang, do you miss Mama too? Is that why you came back to see us…”

Lin Xiwei returned to the hospital room and felt comforted to see her son eating obediently.

“Sister Hong, go downstairs and have your meal too. I’ll stay with him.”

Sister Hong nodded and left.

Lin Xiwei had specifically brought a razor with her, planning to shave off her son’s hair.

Otherwise, once treatment began, it would fall out anyway.

Xiao Junjun was very sensible. When he heard he would have his head shaved, he didn’t ask many questions. Instead, he comforted his mother: “I’m so handsome, I’ll still look good with a shaved head.”

Lin Xiwei smiled in agreement: “That’s right, our Junjun looks handsome with any hairstyle.”

That said, watching her son’s thick, dark hair being completely shaved off, Lin Xiwei’s eyes quietly reddened.

Xiao Junjun didn’t know his mother was upset inside, and kept chatting casually: “Mom, is Dad never coming to see me again?”

“Do you want him to come?”

If her son truly wanted that scumbag to come, she would be willing to beg for it.

“Forget it. He doesn’t want to come, and even if he was forced to come, he wouldn’t treat me well.”

Such a young child, yet so clear-sighted.

Lin Xiwei’s heart twitched painfully. She deliberately comforted him in a joking tone: “Once you’re cured, Mom will find you a new dad who’s both handsome and gentle, okay?”

“No, Mom, you need to find someone who treats you well and can protect you!”

Her son’s clear-headed words again moved Lin Xiwei to tears.

Outside the ward.

Old Mrs. Qin, supported by several people, stood trembling at the door, looking through the glass window at the child inside.

“He looks… he looks like Yue Lang, exactly like Yue Lang when he was little… He must be my Yue Lang come back, come back…”

Old Mrs. Qin murmured repeatedly, extremely agitated.

Old Mr. Qin was full of disbelief: “How can it be such a coincidence that just when you’re hospitalized, there’s a child in this hospital who looks like Yue Lang? Let me take a look—”

The old man, skeptical, also leaned in.

The next second, his eyes widened and his expression froze.

“He looks like him! He really looks like him!”

“This child—even his demeanor is exactly like Yue Lang! Do you remember when Yue Lang was little and mischievous, he took scissors and cut his hair all messy, and in the end I shaved his head? He looked exactly like this child!”

The old man was so excited his voice trembled, and he slapped his legs with both hands, as if he might rush in at any moment.

Director Yan quickly stopped them.

“Elder Mr. Qin, please calm down, calm down. You’ve seen the child now, let’s go back.”

But Old Mrs. Qin couldn’t bear to leave. Her eyes were tearful and reluctant: “Let me look a little longer, my Lang Lang…”

On the other side of the corridor, Lin Zheng’an and Zhao Xingfen came hurrying over carrying things.

“That damn girl really has grown wings. She won’t even answer my calls. Does she think she can cut ties with us?”

Lin Zheng’an cursed under his breath, clearly coming with ill intentions.

Seeing people approaching, Director Yan quickly tugged at Old Mr. Qin. “Sir, let’s go quickly. If the family members see us, there will be misunderstandings.”

Just as he finished speaking, Zhao Xingfen had already noticed something amiss and called out loudly: “Who are you? What are you doing hanging around outside our ward?”
