Fu Chengyan was awakened in the morning by a gray, unidentified object pressing down on him. It took him a moment to regain his senses before he realized it was Fu Xuanlang, who had rolled into his blanket.
The little rascal couldn’t sleep properly.
He reached for his phone—it was only six o’clock. Carefully, he moved Fu Xuanlang from his body onto the bed, tucked him in, and got up to wash up.
The cheese tarts and Taro Sweet Potato Balls in the oven had long gone cold. Fu Chengyan opened the oven and heated them up to eat before the two kids woke up.
By the time the two children came to the small kitchen one after another to check, Fu Chengyan had already prepared the soy milk for breakfast.
Breakfast was also made by him.
Fu Xuanlang and Fu Xuanyue looked at each other and shouted in unison, “Little Dad!”
“Pfft, cough, cough—”
Fu Chengyan choked so hard on a mouthful of soy milk that he nearly died.
He coughed lightly, feeling more embarrassed than ever. The nearby servants were confused, and they were also startled when they heard the young master and young miss’s address.
“Did you two have a fever last night?”
Did it fry your brains?
What on earth is “Little Dad”?
Fu Xuanlang shook his head, the little boy speaking with utmost seriousness, “Uncle said he can’t be our dad because our real dad is still alive.”
Still… alive…
Fu Chengyan’s lips twitched, almost unable to recognize those words.
“So, since Uncle can’t be our real dad, he can be our little dad instead.”
Just last night, he had praised the kid for being clever. Fu Chengyan rubbed his forehead.
He knew it—if this little rascal was being too well-behaved, he must be brewing some mischief.
“Your parents would come after me with a vengeance,” Fu Chengyan said calmly. “Fu Xuanlang, this was your idea again, wasn’t it?”
Fu Xuanlang puffed out his little chest. “Yep~”
Fu Xuanyue raised her hand. “I thought of it with my brother.”
“I really can’t control you two. I’m calling your parents right now.”
Fu Xuanlang didn’t care. He peeled an egg and handed it to his sister. “They won’t answer the phone, Little Dad. Just accept your fate.”
“…”
Fu Xuanyue nodded. “Yeah, yeah, Little Dad. When my brother and I grow up, we can take care of you too.”
“That’s right, Uncle. When you have your own baby in the future, my sister and I will love them very, very much,” Fu Xuanlang said. “Uncle, you don’t even have to give birth to have two adorable little treasures. Aren’t you happy?”
Fu Chengyan coughed quietly. “I’m not sure I dare to be happy.”
If Fu Chengli and his wife came back and found out he had practically stolen their two kids, they’d definitely curse him out.
During breakfast, the two kids spouted all sorts of grand principles they’d learned from who-knows-where, trying to brainwash him with their chatter.
Fu Chengyan was helpless. No matter how much he tried to get them to stop, they kept calling him “Little Dad” over and over.
“Little Dad, I want to ride the pirate ship!” As soon as they got out of the car, Fu Xuanlang clung to Fu Chengyan, insisting on going to the pirate ship.
Fu Xuanyue clung tightly to his leg. “No! Little Dad has to ride the carousel with Yueyue first.”
Fu Chengyan took the tickets handed to him by the staff. “One at a time. We’ll play whatever we come across.”
“Yay!” Fu Xuanyue was delighted. The carousel was the first ride, so she could ride it with Little Dad and her brother.
“Alright then,” Fu Xuanlang said. “We’ll listen to Little Dad.”
The two adults each carried a child and headed toward the carousel.
Pink… white…
Wen Li’s lips twitched. “Boss, I don’t really want to ride this.”
Fu Chengyan shot him a glance. As if he wanted to either?
Fortunately, it was a children’s amusement park, and some rides didn’t allow adults, like the carousel. Fu Chengyan happily helped the kids onto it. “Little Dad—no, I mean, Uncle—will take photos for you from down here.”
In just a short while, he’d already been brainwashed by these two kids.
Once the carousel started, Wen Li asked, “Boss, I don’t really get it. What kind of roleplay are you guys doing?”
Fu Chengyan felt a headache coming on. “If you have nothing better to do, go drag Fu Chengli back from the remote mountains. If he doesn’t come back soon, he won’t have a son or daughter anymore.”
Wen Li shook his head. “Forget it, Boss. Being a painless dad is pretty good.”
He tried to console him.
“…” Fu Chengyan pointed toward the trash can. Wen Li instantly understood, but he was famously disobedient. He took the camera from Fu Chengyan’s hands. “Boss, your photography skills aren’t great. Let me do it.”
He had been professionally taking photos for five or six years, having practiced specifically for his wife.
Fu Chengyan had encountered three disobedient people in just one morning, leaving him both annoyed and amused.
“Little Dad, Little Dad~” Fu Xuanyue circled around and came to him, shouting excitedly.
“I’m taking pictures,” Fu Chengyan said.
Wen Li thought to himself: Boss sure knows how to lie with a straight face.
Fu Chengyan chuckled. “You’d better start taking photos quickly. The carousel only goes around three times before it stops.”
Wen Li: “…!!!”
Why didn’t you say so earlier?
Wen Li frantically followed the carousel as it spun, snapping cool photos.
Bumper cars, the giant swing—Fu Xuanlang dragged Fu Chengyan to play each of them twice before he was willing to get off.
“How can a children’s amusement park have things like this?” Fu Chengyan said.
Wen Li gloated. “Boss, you should be glad there’s no roller coaster or high-altitude flying ride.”
Fu Chengyan said calmly, “If you want to try them, I can make it happen for you.”
“Let’s just forget it.”
They skipped the haunted house, afraid it might leave Fu Xuanyue with psychological scars. After playing seven rides, they finally won two fluffy cloud dolls. Fu Chengyan took them to eat.
“Burgers, burgers! Little Dad, I want burgers!” Fu Xuanlang excitedly dashed toward the fast-food restaurant.
Fu Xuanyue was a bit tired from playing and sat obediently in Fu Chengyan’s arms, her small hands resting on his shoulders. “Little Dad, I want taro pie and fries, and I also want milk.”
“Alright. After we eat, we’ll go home and take a nap, okay?”
Children have boundless energy but tire quickly.
She nodded listlessly. “Okay, Little Dad.”
Fu Chengyan ordered a full table of food. Halfway through their meal, the two kids started nodding off, struggling to stay awake.
After feeding Fu Xuanyue half a cup of warm milk, she fell asleep curled up in his arms. Fu Xuanlang tried his best to finish his meal before also snuggling into Fu Chengyan’s embrace.
Wen Li felt a bit emotional. Even if their biological parents returned, these two little ones might not be this close to them.
Fu Chengli and his wife were rarely home, so the two children lived with their grandparents.
Fu Chengyan visited them two or three times a week. The kids adored him—they laughed whenever he teased them and searched for him when he wasn’t around. That’s why Fu Chengyan loved going back to see his niece and nephew whenever work wore him out.
Ever since the kids started speaking fluently and attending kindergarten, they had truly unleashed their personalities, becoming more and more mischievous.
Fu Xuanlang was especially so.
“Little Dad, I’m so sleepy.”
Fu Chengyan held him close. “If you’re sleepy, just sleep. I’ll carry you to the car later.”
Fu Xuanlang drifted off to sleep as well. Once both children were sound asleep, Fu Chengyan carried them out, one in each arm.
Behind him, Wen Li carried the toys the kids had bought and various other miscellaneous handicrafts.
“Boss,” he lowered his voice, “Wen Yi has a parent-teacher meeting this afternoon. I’ll go.”
Fu Chengyan nodded. “Go ahead. Just don’t get into a fight with him.”
Though he knew that when these two got together, it was more likely that Wen Li would be the one at a disadvantage.
