Mark’s eyes narrowed slightly as he considered Damian’s words for a few seconds.
After weighing the matter carefully in his mind, he finally nodded in agreement.
“You are right,” he admitted.
“I will find out which of the options had prompted the swap.” Damian slowly shook his head, his expression remaining calm despite the seriousness of their discussion.
“There’s no reason to worry about that at the moment.
We have a lot of time to unravel it.” “Yes, Sir,” Mark answered respectfully.
He turned away and took several steps toward the door, seemingly ready to leave.
However, just as he was about to reach it, he suddenly stopped.
For a moment, he remained still before slowly turning around.
His warm gaze settled on Damian, and there was a faint amusement in his eyes as he watched Damian.
Feeling his gaze lingering on him, Damian’s eyes flickered slightly.
“What do you want to say?” he asked, already sensing that Mark was about to bring up something he would rather avoid.
“Your appointment for therapy…” The moment those words left Mark’s mouth, Damian’s fingers curled tightly into a fist.
His jaw clenched, and he gritted his teeth in obvious irritation.
Mark noticed the reaction immediately, and his lips slowly curled into a playful smirk.
“You are definitely not going to avoid it this time.” Damian slowly relaxed his fist and turned his head toward the direction of Mark’s voice.
“And if I want to avoid it?” “I will practically drag you there myself,” Mark replied without hesitation.
“Besides, you also have your eye check-up at nine tomorrow morning.
I have already informed them that you will be there.” For the past six months, attending hospital appointments had practically become a tug-of-war between the two men.
Every time Damian was reminded about an upcoming appointment, he found one excuse after another to avoid it.
Sometimes he complained that the doctors were inefficient.
At other times, he insisted that the hospitals were unclean or that the entire process was unnecessarily troublesome.
For Damian, the reason did not really matter.
As long as he could find a convincing excuse to avoid stepping into a hospital, he would gladly use it.
“You arranged such an appointment without informing me beforehand?” Damian asked, his voice becoming noticeably colder.
“What was there to inform you about?” Mark asked calmly.
“It was already part of the schedule you agreed to follow after we returned from the hospital.” “Mark,” Damian growled, his irritation deepening.
“Yes, Boss?” “You still remember that I am your boss?” “Undeniably,” Mark replied with a completely straight face.
“But when it comes to your health appointments, I am your boss.” For a brief moment, Damian said nothing.
His blood boiled with anger, and the muscles along his jaw tightened as he fought the urge to say something that would make his assistant regret his boldness.
Unfortunately for him, Mark seemingly had long become immune to his threats because the more Damian threatened him, the more determined Mark seemed to become.
Seconds ticked past in complete silence, and the tension in the room became almost palpable.
Damian remained in his wheelchair, his expression dark and displeased, while Mark simply stood there, waiting.
After several minutes passed without Damian saying another word, Mark finally exhaled quietly.
‘Another battle won.’ Standing against Damian has never been an easy feat but for the sake of the past, the present and the future, he can only keep going.
“Alright, I will be back,” he announced cheerfully.
He turned around and headed toward the door once again.
However, just as his hand settled on the doorknob, Damian’s cold voice stopped him.
“Keep close surveillance over her, and be careful.
She might be far smarter than we think.” Mark’s brow furrowed slightly.
For a moment, he did not understand who Damian was referring to.
Then slowly realization suddenly dawned on him.
His eyes widened slightly.
‘Leslie Quinn?’ ‘Of course.
That was certainly who Damian was talking about.
Mark slowly shook his head inwardly.
‘What time was it, and Damian was still thinking about his new unwanted bride?’ He shook his head in resignation.
“Got it.” He opened the door and finally stepped out.
==== After Sylvia entered the room next door, she pressed her back firmly against the door to stop After Sylvia entered the room next door, she immediately pressed her back firmly against the door.
Her heart was still pounding wildly from everything that had happened.
She kept her body against the heavy wooden door as though her weight alone would be enough to prevent anyone from forcing their way inside.
For several seconds, she simply stood there and waited anxiously.
She expected a strong anxious pounding of fist against the door at any moment.
Perhaps Damian would send one of the servants to fetch the spare key.
Or perhaps his assistant would be the one bringing the key over.
Worse still, she could already imagine Damian’s cold voice issuing a command for someone to open the door and pull her out.
The thought alone made her stomach tighten.
Yet surprisingly, none of those things happened.
One second passed, then another…Slowly, those seconds turned into minutes.
Still, there was no pounding against the door, no angry voice came from the hallway and no servant appeared with a spare key.
There was simply silence.
Unable to suppress her curiosity, Sylvia slowly turned around and pressed her ear firmly against the door, she held her breath as she listened.
But unexpectedly there was nothing.
She waited a little longer before pressing her ear harder against the wooden surface, straining herself to hear even the faintest movement outside.
Anything that could calm her fraying nerves, anything that would prove to her that Damian and his assistant had left.
But it was as though she had been plunged into another planet devoid of any interference.
Finally, she released the breath she had unknowingly been holding.
Her shoulders relaxed slightly.
She carefully pushed herself away from the door and looked around the unfamiliar room…and her thoughts raced.
