The realization made her breath catch.

But then several other questions raced through her thoughts.

‘Why hadn’t he addressed her as ‘Mom’?’ ‘Was it possible there was a deeper backstory behind their relationship?’ Sylvia thought about it for a while before slowly shaking her head.Full novel: Forced to marry: I found a perfect husband — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

“Maybe not…” After all, the woman had immediately attacked Sylvia the moment she went against Damian.

That should have been a mother’s natural protective instinct, shouldn’t it?

Sylvia remembered how Eloise once nearly fought with a neighbor simply because the woman had called Sylvia a dumbass.

Mothers were supposed to protect their children and that woman had done the same.

At least, that was what Sylvia had always believed.

Then she thought about Kyle?

Sylvia frowned.

Though he was Damian’s father, she couldn’t figure him out at all.

He was like red wine sealed inside a dark red bottle.

The deeper she looked, the harder it became to distinguish what was actually inside.

There was something about him that made Sylvia uneasy.

She couldn’t explain exactly what it was, but she was certain of two things.

He was definitely not simple and he definitely didn’t like her.

“And Drake…” She sighed deeply as her thought lingered briefly on that name, Drake.

Though he was Damian’s brother, there was something peculiar about him too.

He possessed a cold yet strangely sunny smile, the kind that could draw someone closer while simultaneously making them want to keep their distance.

He appeared completely unbothered by everything happening around him.

Yet, whenever the subject of Damian came up, there was always a subtle change in his attention.

He was always interested.

Perhaps more interested than he wanted anyone to notice.

But it was there…as though he was waiting to see his joke at all times.

Sylvia remembered the intensity behind his eyes and the subtle movements of his fingers whenever certain matters were discussed.

Her brow furrowed as she thought about it.

The more she tried to understand Drake, the less certain she became about him.

Between him and Kyle, they are certainly giving off the same vibe.

‘Don’t bother messing with me.’ After a while, she finally shook her head.

‘I have met the Evercrest family twice now, and somehow, they have given me a completely different feeling each time.’ She stared at the ceiling thoughtfully.

‘They really are worthy of their name.’ Her fingers lightly tapped against her cheek.

‘They are far more complicated than they look.’ The thought made her sigh.

“If there is anyone who is simple, it has to be Kieran.” For some reason, Kieran was the only person in the family whose heart Sylvia felt she could understand.

Maybe it was because of the seriousness on his face when he had been waiting to be scolded by his elder brother for returning home.

Perhaps it was his attentiveness to the little details of life, such as knowing his brother’s favorite things and caring about his well-being.

Or maybe it was simply because he was young like her.

Whatever the reason, Sylvia couldn’t help feeling that Kieran was someone she could regard as family just as the Old man.

As for everyone else… Sylvia slowly exhaled.

“I will have to look into them later,” she murmured thoughtfully.

She shifted beneath the covers and finally closed her eyes.

“Okay…

I think it is really time to sleep now.

Tomorrow will be a new…” Buzz.

Buzz.

The sudden vibration of her phone interrupted her.

Sylvia slowly turned her head toward the bedside table, where she had placed the device.

She reached for it and lifted it to check the screen.

The moment she saw the caller’s name, a helpless sigh escaped her lips.

She swiped the answer button and placed the phone against her ear.

“Dad,” she called softly, carefully masking the bitterness in her voice.

No matter how much she disliked them, the deed had already been done.

She was already sold off.

And there was no point of feeling so bad, she would only be the one hurting.

Across the phone, Morgan gave a nervous laugh.

“How are you doing?

I hope they aren’t giving you a hard time?” Sylvia almost laughed.

‘Why didn’t I know my father was like this?’ If she hadn’t personally witnessed the ferocious expression on his face when he had threatened her into marrying Damian, she might have believed the concern in his voice.

But she had seen the other side of him.

She had seen the father who had been willing to force his own daughter into a marriage she never wanted.

Just for the sake of a capital investment into the company and even when she had tried to resist…He had even shoved his own mother’s life to her face leaving her with no choice.

That alone had been enough for her to see beneath his carefully constructed facade.

“Dad…I know that isn’t why you’re calling.” She paused, drawing a deep breath before continuing.

“Spill it.” There was a brief silence and for a moment Sylvia wondered if he had dropped his phone.

Then, the next moment, her mother’s voice suddenly cut through the speaker.

“Sylvia, how dare you speak to your father like that?” ‘Sure enough.’ Sylvia exhaled deeply.

‘I should have known, she would be close by.

“Mom, I was just…” she began.

But Eloise’s voice immediately grew louder.

Sylvia instinctively pulled the phone away from her ear.

‘Wouldn’t it be better to speak calmly?’ She mused.

Unaware of what Sylvia was thinking, Eloise continued scolding her.

“It’s only been one day, and you’re already getting comfortable as Mrs.

Evercrest.” Sylvia closed her eyes briefly, forcing herself to remain calm.

“Mom, that’s not what I meant.

I was just…” “It doesn’t matter what you mean!” Eloise interrupted sharply.

“But you must remember that you are still the daughter of the Quinn family.” Sylvia remained silent for a moment.

“I know, Mom,” she finally replied, her voice carrying clear resignation.

At least, being born with the blood of the Quinn family was a truth that could never be changed.

Whatever happened between them, she would always be their daughter.

“Now that you know that…” Eloise paused, her voice suddenly becoming more serious.

“Listen up.” CREATORS’ THOUGHTS Lilyheart Have some idea about my story?

Comment it and let me know.
