Yearning Heart
3: Chapter 3
Yearning Heart
YEARNING HEART
Scorn’s whole group went inside the club rejoicing their submissive victory over the pub.
Scorn went directly to a VVIP room.
His lackey, Opel, along with two other members sat down with long lists of ledgers and lists of VIP members who visited that pub.
As Opel and others got down to summarize the overall investments in the last few years in the pub, the young boy who was made the boss of his group few minutes ago, came inside the room.
“Hey!
Come here!
Our boss wants to talk to you.” Opel bawled at the boy who stood outside the room holding the door knob.
The boy who looked whimsical and determined few minutes ago outside the pub, now seemed edgy and defensive.
Tensed up, he slowly approached near Scorn.
“Boss!
Did you call me?” The boy asked nervously pressing his hands against each other.
“What’s your name young boss?” Scorn asked in his majestic tone rocking on his chair with his legs crossed above the table.
“Zakai!” The boy answered.
“What’s your age?” Scorn asked again.
“17!”
Immediately Scorn’s eyes widened and the next moment he looked at Opel, who was already staring at Scorn.
Opel stood up from his place and went near the boy.
“Zakai, right?
Have a sit with us.
My man will teach you how to look after the transactions.
After all this bar will be in your vigilance.”
Zakai nodded his head and went to the group of men surrounding the table with ledgers and other documents.
Now Opel looked straight into Scorn’s eyes.
Their eyes met; a lingering gaze and a shared, quiet tension followed.
Scorn took out his phone and looked sharply at the phone screen.
Instantly his brows twitched and lips turned into a thin line.
“Boss!
The profits have been doubled since last two months but there’s a ….” Opel stopped looking at Scorn’s face.
“Boss?”
“HUGHHHH!” Scorn gushed out a long sigh before keeping his phone aside.
“Tell me what’s the problem?”
Opel suggested, “Boss, why don’t you take some rest.
It’s already 3 am.
You’ve to attend a meeting at 9 am.
I’ll call you when it’s time.”
“Fine!
Come and report me about the stocks of this pub at sharp 7.” Scorn stood up and swiftly moved out of the room.
Later in the morning in Scorn’s house, Opel went to pick him up but was soon surprised to find Scorn missing.
Terrified after looking at the empty mansion, he called his other members to look at the neighbourhood and while he looked at the CCTV footages in and around the mansion.
After spending a whole ten minutes infront of the monitor, Opel rushed out of the mansion.
He galloped through the stairs and sprinted over the lawn and soon reached a stock room few yards away from the mansion.
Not hesitating for a micro-second, Opel pushed the door knob.
CREAKKKKKKK!!
The eerie looking dim-lit room was dead silent.
The walls were decorated with spider webs and blotchy, uneven stains.
All other things were sprinkled with a thick layer of dust.
Opel dubiously took a step in.
At the corner of the room Opel saw a shadow of a figure.
“Boss!
Is that you?”
As the voice echoed, the figure moved a little.
Opel, now determined with all his vague guesses, walked fast to the corner, “Boss!
Are you ok?
Why are you here?”
Scorn was sitting at the floor in a slumped posture His shoulders were drawn inward with the bowed head.
Near him were some photo frames that looked contrary to the other things in the room.
The dustier looked the things inside the room, the more cleaner and shiny looked those photo frames.
All the frames had detailed ornamental style with gilded carvings.
The acrylic pane that protected the photographs were glazing.
“Boss!
Let’s go.” Opel suggested in his timid tone.
As Scorn heard Opel’s voice, he drew his bent limbs tight against his torso.
The movement was slow but the gaze remained fixed downward.
Opel knelt down and sat next to Scorn, “Boss!
Stop thinking about her!
She left you years ago.
Although I might sound harsh, but it’s the reality.”
Scorn was unshakable.
He lifted his head slightly and peeked at the photo frames from the corner of his eyes.
Opel analyzed Scorn.
He wasn’t crying.
Only the upper eyelids drooped over his eyes making him look droopy, the corner of lower lip slightly downward into a faint, downturned mouth and his focus seemed to be blurred.
“Boss!
You should never show this vulnerable side of yours to anyone else.
Who would believe someone so powerful and vicious can soften over some rusty memories and weathered photo frames?”
This time Scorn pulled his chin up and looked the photos directly.
Tears tracked slowly down his cheeks.
The crumple look on his face worsened.
As his wide lips widened some more, he spoke, “It’s her day today.” A timid voice escaped his mouth.
“Yes boss!
I’ve already send the gifts to all those listed orphanages as usual.
Should we now head to the meeting place?
It’s already past the time.” Opel spoke as he assembled those frames carefully.
Scorn too stood up holding that crunched face.
“Let me wash my face and see you near the garage.” And he took few heavy steps to reach the exit door but then stopped and looked back.
“Opel!
I’m lucky to have met you 15 years ago.
You were a little scaredy-cat but your observant and agile mind caught my eyes.
I’ll never regret bringing you with me.
Let’s stay this way forever.”
“Sir!
I’ll be always grateful to you for making me stand next to you.
No matter what, I’ll serve you to eternity.” Opel swore with determination.
“Until I get killed by my rivals.”
“Nothing will happen until I’m alive sir.
Moreover, I’ve promised you that I’ll bring back your lost family.” Opel bowed and answered.
This time Scorn’s face muscles relaxed and his eyes looked kind.
He nodded his head and left the room with a light and relaxed heart.
